Twins vs White Sox 9-23 Official Gamethread
southsideirish71 replied to WinningUgly85's topic in 2005 Season in Review
It would be nice for the offense to show up before the end of the season. Tonight would be a good place to start. Its Kyle Lohse, and he is terrible. -
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Have you ever said "Great job Sox, you are doing great!!!!1"? Are you for real? Do you smile when someone gives you a kick in the jimmie and say, that was swell, can you go over to the shoe rack and get some steel toed ones and get a running start. We give this team credit when it wins, I have been on this terrible offense all year long because I saw that as the only weakness. I never thought the pitching, defense or speed would abandon us. I thought we were a shoe in for the playoffs and only questioned how far we would go because of the lack of hitting.
-
Our offense is just fine. They are not popping up or striking out with men on, they are stretching their home run muscles. They are waiting for the next indian series to hit 40 home runs. As Allah as my witness I have seen this. We will drive those wahoo swine into the 5th depths of hell.

Remember the rant last year by Kenny when Carlos Lee struck out with the bases loaded and less than two outs. If I ever see another player try and hit a home run and strike out with less than two outs I will throw up. I wonder if he vomited tonight. Thanks Juan.

They need to majory fix this f***ing offense. We had the best record in baseball in the first half, and it hid the fact our pitching staff was out of their world and our offense blew dog. Watching Uribe with some of the most pathetic swings I have seen in a bases loaded situation since Valentin. There was no way in this world he was just trying to make contact. Everett needs to rest, and he should not be on this team next year. He is old and over. Thanks Dye for your beautiful pop ups. All we needed is a f***ing base hit or a fly ball. Again we like we have all season long, left the bases loaded with less than 2 outs. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) What a fan you are! Remember before this game when everyone wasnt expecting the Sox to even score? What happened, got too used to being in the game? That was against Santana, not Rincon or Crain. But thanks for being an apologist for this terrible offense. -

We need a simple single. And Dead and Uribe come in to swing for the fences. Anyone who thinks that Uribe was trying to make contact is insane. He was looking for the express lanes. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Bob of all people you should have faith. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Look at Bronson Arroyo's pictures. A girl's sitting on his lap. Both him and AJ can expect themselves in the doghouse if their wives get a hold of these pictures. Owner of that blog could have extorted some money from either to keep these photos underwraps. I would rather that they worked in the cage a little more and gave their livers a rest.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) It ain't cool bashing AJ's wife. I bet she would find these pictures interesting. Nope, His wife just gave birth. Lets have a little respect here.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) ahem... He obviously likes blondes.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) I watch him, and I dont think he's below average. He's pretty average in my book, just because of his speed and ability to get to balls which alot of people don't get to. I can refer you to many plays this year were he just boned it. Go back just a week ago where he turned a fly out into a bad news bears play. Ball hits down fair because he took a bad route, then he dropped the ball, then puss armed it in. Carlos Lee == Pods defensivley Carlos Lee >> Pods with the stick Pods >> Carlos Lee baserunning
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) According to the stats this year, Pods is the 2/3rd best defensive LF in the league. According to stats last year, Carlos Lee should of been a gold glove.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) The Sox wanted to add speed, a leadoff hitter, pitching, defense, catching, a solid 2b, and a replacement for Maggs. With Pods, Viz, Hermanson, AJ, Dye, and Iguchi, they filled those needs. Lee is an asshole in the clubhouse apparently with below average defense, and is definetly not what the Sox wanted. Lee vs Pods defensively is a moot point. They both are below average. The only Lee issue I ever read about was with Marte. Who seems to be nuts to begin with. We saved 6 million dollars with the trade that we used for AJ and Gooch. I would of rather have raised the payroll 6 million and kept Lee. 76 million dollars with Lee in the lineup is better.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) For the type of team the Sox wanted, Lee sucked. Why again.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) Santana throws first pitch strike 95% of the time. Swing away, swing away. Yes this could make this game last about an 1 hour, but it is our only hope. I still say this is the best approach, and Farmio and Rooney have echoed it a few times in games. Try and hit Santana's fastball to right field. If he gets the change on you, you will pull it, but most likely will still pull it fair. Currently we gear up for the fastball and pull the change if we do make contact foul. -
His nickname should be WALKIN EVERYONE SHOULD WALK HIM
-
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) How the hell did he get the nickname "Pronk"? Combination of Project and Donkey. He is built like a mule and his nick in the minors was project. Hence PRONK.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) Accoding to the Copley News Service: Thursday, September 22, 2005 Feeling so stressed out that he regularly vomits and feeling unappreciated by Chicago's boo-first fans, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen says he might quit after the season if his team wins the World Series. "I've got (championship) rings already and I'm proud of them, but if I win here, if I help the White Sox do this, it will give me a chance to walk away if I want to," an emotional Guillen told me before Wednesday night's 8-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians. "I will think about it. I will think about it twice. The way I'm thinking right now, I will tell (general manager) Kenny Williams to get another manager and I'll get the (bleep) out of here. I'll make more money signing autographs instead of dealing with this (bleep)." I have heard Ozzie say some wild things during his two seasons as Sox skipper, but this one floored me. Here's a 41-year-old, second-year manager who has guided a modestly talented team to the American League's best record, a guy who in just a few weeks could be the first Chicago manager in 88 years to spray championship champagne, a former White Sox All-Star who gets misty-eyed when discussing his love of the organization ... and he is seriously contemplating his grand exit. I wanted to make sure I heard him correctly, so I asked him repeatedly to clarify his comments. And he kept saying the same things, often raising his voice to accentuate certain points. "I'm not kidding, not at all," Guillen said. "I want the fans to be able to say, 'Hey, we finally did it!' I want to make them proud. I want to win the World Series, and then maybe i'm gone. I'll even help Kenny look for someone else. "I don't give a (bleep) about the money; I've got all I need. The thing is, I'm stressed every day. "Do I have the best job in the world? Yes, because I'm managing the team I love. I'm managing my team. But every time we lose, I feel sick. I (vomit) sometimes. I get mad. I throw things in my office. It makes me crazy. "I went to the World Series as a player (with Atlanta) and won one as a coach (with Florida). If I can do it as the manager here, I can say: 'Everything I want to do in baseball, I did it.' Then I'll make my decision." Frankly, I doubt Guillen will have to worry about winning the World Series. Although Wednesday's loss reduced their one-time 15-game AL Central lead over Cleveland to 21/2 games, I still think the Sox will make the playoffs (perhaps only as a wild-card team). I simply don't believe they have enough firepower or pitching to advance beyond the first round. The Indians are so much more talented it's ridiculous. Travis Hafner alone is as good as any three White Sox. Nevertheless, with the division lead dwindling, many fans are taking out their frustrations on Guillen. A half-hour after telling dozens of reporters that he didn't mind being booed at U.S.Cellular Field - even joking about "the 30,000 managers helping me out" - Guillen showed his vulnerable side during our long conversation. "It makes me sad when they boo me," he said. "Sometimes I think they don't appreciate me. They should, because I played my (bleep) off for them and now I'm managing my (bleep) off for them. "You know how many managers are dying for 91 wins right now? And we have that and they don't appreciate that? It makes me wonder what happens if I only have 71 wins, how are they gonna treat me? I mean, they treat me like (bleep) when I'm winning 91. "My kids are here at the ballpark and they ask me later why I'm getting booed. I say it's part of my job, but deep down inside, it hurts. If I was doing a (bleep) job, sure, go ahead and boo me, but I think I'm doing pretty good." So do I. With his boundless energy, confident personality, brutal honesty, zany (and often profane) sense of humor and aggressive style, Guillen convinced a completely retooled team - one many preseason prognosticators predicted would finish in fourth place - to believe it could accomplish anything. The White Sox have blown most of their 15-game lead largely because the starting pitchers have slumped these last seven weeks. Just when it seemed the Sox were ready to choke completely, Guillen led them to a series victory in Minnesota. Then came the first two games of the Cleveland series, in which the Indians kept taking leads and Ozzie's resilient Sox kept battling back. If the White Sox do qualify for postseason play, credit Tuesday's stirring comeback. Guillen's forceful, can-do attitude played a huge role in that triumph - and in the team's other 32 one-run victories. Though it's easy to quibble with in-game decisions, the true measure of any manager is his ability to steer his ship through both smooth and choppy waters. That's why he's often called a "skipper." Ozzie Guillen has been a superb skipper. If White Sox fans don't realize that, they don't deserve him. Mike Nadel is the Chicago sports columnist for Copley News Service. I do believe that he made a comment in his press conference that he was hired to eventually be fired. Year 2 into it and his first pennant race and he cant handle it.

QUOTE(LauraJ14 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) Cleveland's defense didn't wow me this series, especially last night when Belliard on a popup to second basically made Blake run almost to the infield dirt to catch while he stood and pointed to it. The difference is that you can play over mistakes if you are raking the ball, and pitching well. Which they did. When we make a mistake it can cost us the game.

Last year we had two guys K more than 100 times. That was Paulie with just over a 100 and Valentin with 139. So far this year. Arow 112ks wtih 29bb Gooch 109ks with 45bbs Kong 103ks with 73bbs Dead has 95ks and Everett has 91ks. The free swinging Juan Uribe has only 73ks.

Everett is now batting .169 with a .596 OPS for the f***ing month of September. Keep trotting this long looping swinging fool who is going for the dong every single AB out there as the number 3 hitter.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) Rita is starting to experience shearing - it's not going to be a cat 5 for long. It is going through eyewall replacement right now. It will weaken a bit, then possibly strenghten again.

The magic number for the wild card is really six. Wildcard Magic number is officially 8. But with New York and Boston in a virtual tie. One of them will lose 2 games in that last series. Those two teams are not going to win out till that series. They are not that good. We should get in, unless we do something f***ing stupid.
