  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) You didn't hear that from KW or Ozzie. You may have heard it around here, but not from the ballclub. Actually there were plenty of press conf in ST where Ozzie talked about Frank and his impact on the team and how if healthy will be a big part of the team. In the Spring there was all sorts of Frank speculation on when he would be back. In fact Ozzie called Frank a bunch of times the best right handed hitter he had played with. The was a Frank watch going on.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) As I said, we got a bonus by having Frank for 24 games. The fact remains that they never counted on having Frank in the lineup this year. No I think they did count on Big Frank. How many times in ST did we hear we are going to get a big bat back in the lineup around the middle of the year. Frank Thomas is going to be our big mid season deal. I dont think they counted on him getting reinjuried so quickly. Now the correct way to look at it is, we won without Frank and we can win again without him also. But the offense was bad back in April and May and we will have to deal with it and hope that the pitchers can pitch their asses off in the playoffs and our hitters can raise their game a bit.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) This team was built without Frank Thomas. That was plan as they did not know if he'd play any this year. We got a bonus of having Frank for 24 or so games. This team is not "worse" because we "lost" Thomas. He wasn't counted on in the first place. We hit in the 250s without Frank. We hit in the 270's with Frank. And without Frank and Pods we hit in the 230s. I have a funny feeling that September will resemble the 250's.
  4. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:56 AM) The Red Sox and Yankees also have pitching problems. The A's are suspect in the pitching department after Zito and Harden. And Harden is not 100% healthy from what I hear. Even with Vlad, the Angels offense is no better than ours. Do the Sox have problems/quesions? Yes. But so does every other team. If by suspect Oakland pitching staff you mean that their team ERA is better than ours I guess they are very suspect. The Angel offense is hitting nearly 10 points higher as a team than ours. Thats a big difference. Vlad is a game changer. We dont have one of those. We could of gotten better, however. But we didnt. So now we have to hope our hitting gets their act together in this next month. Or the playoffs will be an issue.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) It would have happened no matter who we got. Thats true, when given Option A Carl Everett and Option B Timo Perez. Today Ozzie picked option B.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) It's over, finally. No more speculation. I feel relieved and rejuvenated, yet at the same time I feel sick to my stomach that we couldn't get anything done. You will feel real sick to your stomach when Timo is the man that comes off the bench in the playoffs instead of someone good.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) I must say, I am shocked KW didn't do anything. Maybe he is saving money for future FA signings in the offseason for the playoff push next year.
  8. Some of us are partially negative. I just hate the offense.
  9. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) there are no trades...please stop worrying yourself. There was little/no movement in baseball for all teams. The difference is those team didnt hit 230 for a month.
  10. Lets hit Cy Douglas a bit better than the 3 hits we got off him the last time we faced him. COME ON SEPTEMBER, BRING THE LUMBER.
  11. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) anyone find it funny that the past 2 years weve brought in players when we needed them less than we do this year, and this year we arent bringing anyone in edit: and by funny i mean sad I keep going back to the KW when he said that we were saving money in the offseason to make a big splash in June/July to make the playoff run, and the reason for this was that 1917 was a long time ago. I guess 1917 sounds a lot better to him now. So we have Rowand who just signed a 3 year contract. We have Pods. We have Brian Anderson, Owens, Young, and Sweeney to play 2 positions in the OF. Thank god we didnt trade one of our precious OF prospects to win this year. We have backups to our backups for years to come.
  12. back to back doubles in the 9th 4-3 detroit injuns still hitting Runner moves up to 3rd. Two outs Brousard pinch hitting Brossard grounds out. INJUNS LOSE MAGIC NUMBER GOES DOWN Back to 7 games up.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Yes, but that's what I'm saying. We've played like s*** the last 2 weeks but we weren't playing bad before that like some of you guys are trying to make it seem. We havent hit in a month. Our pitching and defense have played like crap in two weeks. There is a difference. I expect our pitchers and our defense to be fine. I have no faith what-so-ever in our offense.
  14. I am afraid of the collection of crap lineups that Ozzie will envoke with more poor players. Think about the number of times he can rest his starters for next year.
  15. Maybe Ozzie is resting our guys for the autograph sessions at soxfest.
  16. A move better be made. This team has died over the last month in a half. Our manager keeps trotting these disfunctional lineups. If we blow this lead KW should be fired.
  17. Next Series we face Cy Douglas, Robertson and Bonderman in 1-2-3 of the series. :uhoh
  18. We face Cy Douglas tomorrow, then Robertson and Bonderman and then TBA. We are going to rock the s*** out of them
  19. So the good news is this the last time we face Texas, the bad news is we face a Detroit team that took 2 out of 3 the last time we faced them and is hitting well and has Maggs back. Yeah we will just sweep them.
  20. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Ha! What is the Sox head to head record vs. the Indians this year? Oh yeah, and how much do you want to put down? Check the run differential in the injun games with the sox. If you think by our record we beat them down. I suggest you look again. The only convincing wins happend in that last 4 game sweep. We havent hit besides 2 games yesterday in a month. The indians have a great bullpen and good pitching. But yeah I can see how we are just going to beat the crap out of them.
  21. QUOTE(AirScott @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) or you can look at it this way: this month, the Sox are hitting .244, 26th in the majors. in June they hit .271 and July hit .279. even in May the team average was .254. or you could say it's a complete coincidence that the team's worst month in terms of average happens to be the same month that their leadoff hitter misses 2 weeks and hits .211. Or that the 271 and 279 months were when this HOF type hitter was hitting 3rd and went on the DL late in July. Then that + pods = bad.
  22. Well we dropped 3 out of 4. Our top 3 pitchers got destroyed. Our offense came alive for 2 games. Ozzie making sunday lineups on a Wednesday. Timo is leading off again. Carl not being good enough to pinch hit for Timo with men on. Vizcaino pitching like he did earlier. I see a lot to be positive about.
