  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) SSI, How many major league pitchers have you ever recorded a hit against? I went 2 for 4 against Ron Mahay in college. But I guess that doesnt count. He was a stud hitter back then and was drafted for that.
  2. Throw it in the dirt with 2 strikes we are so undisciplined at the plate. Its an automatic strike out.
  3. With all of the meatballs that mateo has left over the plate tonight yet the long looping swings foul them back.
  4. If anyone thinks that Everett was taking a short quick swing or was trying just to have a base hit then I question their sanity.
  5. BTW it was nice to see Everett with the long looping swings. Can we try and for the love of god when there is a man on third and less than two outs just try and make contact. Man on 3rd and less than 2 outs and the two guys K. COME ON. HOW BAD THIS OFFENSE IS.
  6. Glad we gave Uribe a 3 year deal. We get two more years of watching him fall over trying to park every single pitch. He has no clue when he goes up there. Pedro Cerrano is reborn.
  7. The bullpen is kinda rested. We have an aging pitcher who pitched a great game. He is now in the bottom of the 8th and instead of putting fresh arm now we have a tie game. Sad
  8. You become terminal when you in the offseason Plan out the weekend for soxfest before they announce dates. Have your yearly vacation trip to Arizona already booked for ST. Cant wait until the schedule for next year is released so you can see what part of the schedule is East Coast bias. Wait for the first day of FA to begin, last day of arbitration offered, hit the site about a billion times during it, using RSS feeds from all sorts of sports news sources so you are the first to get that great FA signing we hope to get. Then b**** about the ones we miss out on. That + what you said and you are there. LOL
  9. Monday should stop the Timo playing everyday thing. Pods comes back, Timo is a pinch hitter again. The only place were the occasional hit does us good.
  10. I am sure this was brought up before. Wouldnt be a bad guy to pickup if Crede is out for a while. He did play a bit of 3rd, has hit well this year, and should come cheap. Just a thought. Could be a right handed backup for both of these guys. His splits against lefties and righties are very similiar.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Marte's big problem now is that he can't throw his slider for a strike to a lefty in case he hangs it. The slider doesn't have near the tilt on it that it used to have, and is too often a roller. As for his fastball against lefties....lets just say that whenever the catcher sets up inside vs a lefty, he always comes close to hitting the batter. One of the reasons Marte is more effective against righties is that he can throw that same high, tailing fastball, and it will entice righties to swing at it instead of lefties having to dive away from it. I wonder if when he broke Chavez hand last year if he had become gunshy on lefties. His ball sails when he gets velocity on it. He can still rush the ball up there with good mph on it. But when he aims it he dips that velocity down to 91 and that is very hittable. He is currently used as a lefty specialist and that is not or should not be his role. I agree with everyone on this, after this season HE GONE
  12. One of the things I love about the decision for my family not only to come to this country, but to pick Chicago is the blue collar mentality. We can take in the bad boys, the former malcontents and embrace them because of their competitiveness. Guys like Jenks(who gets a bad name for partying at an age when most of us did the same thing), Everett, and AJ...guys like Rodman. I remember some people worried about AJ in the off season because of his checkered past, and my analogy then was to Rodman. A guy you hated to play against, but would love on your team. Jenks is blessed with a great arm, but great breaking pitches and so far nerves of steel. Hopefully Bobby has a long Whitesox career ahead of him.
  13. They faced Felix in ST. He was hitting 98 on the gun in that game. So while it was a while ago, they did face him. And they hit him a bit. Facing a good pitcher like this is a blessing in disguise. It forces them to keep short compact swings, instead of when we face a guy who barely hits 90 and they feel they can jack him. All I have to say is another great pitcher from Venezuela? We better have like 10 scouts that are just assigned to that country alone. They are turning out stud pitchers at a good clip down there. Big pitchers park should play right in the sox game plan this weekend. It should be a good series.
  14. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) There are other applications that this will work on (invision). But mySQL is the most popular, and with the amount of traffic that this site generates, it would take a full version of something a lot more powerful then we have, which is not cheap, depending on which way we go. The server is ran on unix, there's no way in hell that I'm going windows. Look at the bright side of windows. Think about how fresh the site will be when you reboot it every few days for the 50 or so security patches you need to keep Soxtalk from being coming PWNDTalk
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Isn't that why we got Blum? Insurance for Crede because his back was acting up? Blum was picked up to rest Kong and Crede while giving us another switch hitting bat off the bench. They didnt invision him starting. If they are going to not make a move here, they should call up Gload have Gload play 1st, DH Kong, have Blum play 3rd and have Everett play LF until Monday.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Even if he's not... which is really stretching it, considering your basing this on 270 ABs or so -- what's wrong with what he'd bring? If used against lefties alone, he's better than anything we have. He's putting up a .234/.336/.394 line against lefties this year. That's pretty much the floor of the production you're going to get from him, and it's still better than anything else we'd have. In the gamethreads, I see you b**** about this team not having enough guys who get on base. A .330 OBP would rank what, third on our team right now? Fourth? If Crede is gone for the season, I don't see why they don't make this move. His OBP looks pretty good. But 42% strikeout rate is amazing. Thats beyond what Valentin did last year. If we platooned him and Blum it wouldnt hurt. Plus he has post season experience. If Crede is out for a long time, I would like to see this or Sean Burroughs(burroughs might not have cleared waivers)
  17. QUOTE(wdson01 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) for everyone who didnt see coops pregame interview today he said if he to pick a game one starter right now itd probally be freddy by a slim margin.. who would you guys put out there in game one? Depends on who we play and how hot they are in a month. Its a bit early to be setting up the rotations for the playoffs. Lets get there first, then get home field advantage. Then we can let Ozzie figure it out.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Blum for everyday 3B? I know he isn't the long term answer, but he could probably play just as well as Crede now. Interesting prospect. Blum has been hitting a bit lately. Is a switch hitter. And the glove is pretty good.
  19. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Sorry - did you even know what I meant about the server load? Anything less then 3.00 is meaning the server is functioning well. It's usally anywhere between 0.50 and 0.75 when we have 250 people on here. It's the database that's the problem, pure and simple. I can probably shut the site down this weekend and rebuild the database, that might help some. Actually yes I do understand server load in nix or nix like OSs. Hence my comments earlier. The comments about mysql being free were in green for a reason.
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) The load on the server is 0.50 during the spikes. The processor(S) and the bandwidth is fine. MySQL is a piece of crap. That's all. But its Free!!!! So it must be good. Well at the rate that some of these database vendors are pricing their products. I can stand with a few "too many connection" messages.
  21. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) When you people hit refresh 15 bazillion times to find out what happens in a game thread, you get too many connections. Trust me, the server's fine. Waaaay fine. It's the database and the response time from it. I have two highly hit servers on the net for work that have the same issue. They have plenty I mean plenty of everything. Its the refresh issue and connections getting hung up. You can throw lots of hardware at it, for a spike that happens during a game once in a great while or when the sox lose a few and everyone is cranky.
  22. max_connections=eleventy billion Web sites like this that use Mysql have a hard time hanging up connections. You could have some serious hardware and still have problems during a spike. Its hard for them to plan the sites server size based on a few times a year. Some maintenance might clean some of it up, but unless they have been seeing issues for a while it could be just isolated to all of the traffic lately due to the sox slumping and the close games.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Ask Dustin Hermanson, as he is experiencing just that phenom this year. Time for mysql maintenance.
