  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) I actually think the mood is rather relaxed in here, as most people are just sick and tired of watching this team blow at home. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who have PM'd me and said they're staying away from soxtalk.com this week, as they're expecting the worse. Well after spending over 5 hours at a game and seeing this pathetic offense choke in person. This is a hell of a lot more relaxing. I expect them to blow dog tonight, I didnt however expect Matt Guerrier to shut us down in relief.
  2. When the score becomes 2-0 is when offically the softball team will take over trying to park pitches into the stands like last night.
  3. A mix of smartball and dumball. Ozuna gets on like Pods, Gooch moves him over Just like the first part of the season Then Everett swings at crap in the dirt and then pops up with man on. Classic Corpseball. And he should of Kd looking on a changeup down the cock that the ump didnt call. Arow works the pitcher a bit. Then Ks. No runs, No hits, Santana gets off Then Buerhle gives up the dong. 1-0 Thats bout enough runs for the twinks tonight with the tard offense out there.
  4. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) I like this lineup! Ride Santana hard and put him away wet! You will like the lineup up until the point that stone hands kicks the ball at third.
  5. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Hmmm. Sox offense vs. Santana. (Insert Twins score of your choice)____, Sox 0 E - 6 Thats what we will see tonight.
  6. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) I blame it all on OZ. I don't think KW wanted Adkins up. OZ liked him in ST & wanted 7 guys in the pen so he could keep the starters down to 6IP. So far the strategy has been a disaster. Adkins is bad & I don't mean good. Meanwhile he's consumed a spot that should have gone to Owens. The guy has 45BB, a .398OBP, & 32SB. What does that spell? Leadoff hitter. Anderson is not known as a base stealer & Timo sucks as one. When Pods injury kept him from being an effective base stealer the pressure was turned off opposing pitchers. Our offense was suspect with that pressure turned on. Now it's downright sleep-inducing. You have to have a guy at the top who can put that pressure on. If not Owens then Young or even Iguchi. But hell no not Timo! Send Adkins down & bring up Owens. If Owens & Anderson get the job done then say goodbye to Timo when Pods returns. Everything you say makes perfect sense. However Ozzie has some sort of unnatural manlove for Timo. When asked about his MVP, I was surprised he didnt say Timo. Timo has occupied some critical ABs this year and has played a myriad of positions he is not meant to. Timo is a pinch hitter. He is not a leadoff hitter or a starter. We had Konerko playing a tired first base because Ozzie would of had to have parted with Timo to bring up Gload at the time. Gload sat down and Timo stayed up. The only reason Timo is not in tonights lineup is because a lefty is on the mound. But I promise you the minute a righty trots to the mound, Timo will be back running slow, and one handing the fly.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) Like I said, I wasn't really paying attention... I could have sworn they said Blum at some point though I liked your lineup better. Blum wont kick the ball around like Ozuna.
  8. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) 3B: Ozuna 2B: Iguchi DH: Everett 1B: Konerko CF: Rowand RF: Dye SS: Uribe C: Widger LF: Anderson I know that Ozzie loves his fast guys and all. But Ozuna cant play 3rd. This is a proven iron clad fact. He will at least kick one ball around tonight. And because he plays so far back, they will bunt him to death. It should be Gooch or Arow 1 and 2 And Blum playing 3rd.
  9. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) They're facing Santana. One run would be bliss. Two a miracle. Considering every bad pitcher gets at least 6-7Ks against us I am going with a 1 run on 4 hits with 9Ks for Santana. Buerhle is the tough luck loser with 2 runs on 6 hits and 4ks
  10. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) so is that enough evidence to dismiss everything else we've seen this season? fourteen games in one month is enough to discount four months of the best baseball this team has played? and again, i'm not claiming they are playing well right now. they're not. but just about every team - championship or otherwise - is going to have a bad month. This team hasnt hit this season except for like a month or so with this man named Thomas in the lineup. They have relied on overwhelming pitching, great defense and clutch hitting. But now we are scoring more than 40% of our runs via the dong. We are not playing smartball anymore. We have guys swinging for the fences. And after the clock struck August we have started sucking. Color me a skeptic but I have seen this dance before. World beaters before August, dumper after. This team needs to get back to what got them here in the early part of the season. They need to stop going for the dong with RISP and just go for a simple good contact. They need to rest or sit Crede until his bat or back get better. And they need to end Timo at the leadoff. Great hits last night, but championship teams do not I repeat do not have 217BA leadoff guys. That Yank series was won on overwhelming pitching. There is no way in the world should you win with 2 runs and a few hits in Yankee stadium. Thanks to our great pitching staff. Our offense has struggled enough to put so much pressure on our pitching staff that any mistake seems like a hundred pounds of lead on their backs. Garcia said it earlier in the season about being able to pitch free with a few runs. Not seeing our offense have 1 run on 2 hits by the 5th inning every day.
  11. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) regardless, we won two out of three there at a time when our offense sucked. listen, i won't say we're playing great ball now because we aren't. but i'm not going to sit up here and cry because the team had the audacity to lose four straight games. The 6-8 record in August is what should concern you.
  12. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) I only hope the sparkplug will be 100% when he returns. I hope that people start to try and get basehits instead of hitting the ball to mars with RISP and less than 2 outs. That of all things should solve a lot of problems.
  13. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) We cant count on Junior to be the savior of this offense. At this point, the deal looks dead. What if we dont get him? Are people going to just give up on them because we didnt get a superstar? We have to count on this offense coming through for themselves. If we dont get any help our pitching will have to pitch their brains out and our offense will have to click in the offense to give us a chance. Our pitching can do it. But ask the twins about pitching and no offense in the playoffs.
  14. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) Why is this bad news? If you haven't noticed, the last thing we need is less batting practice. Also, my Sox BP on the field was cancelled. But the good news, I still get my 10th row tickets and free premium parking....AND I will still get to do BP and tickets, since I did already pay for that. I realize nobody cares. All that batting practice does is allow our hitters to work on their popup stance, or the slam the bat or helmet into the ground pout, or the big swing and K with men on. Maybe its time for KW and Ozzie to have a team meeting. Call out this terrible offense.
  15. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Interesting I must say. We were dominating in April. Probably not much of an argument or anything cause its only one month but we were very hard to beat in the cold. This pitching has always been consistent this year even through the hot weather but the cold weather definately seemed to play in our favor. Our offense has been a joke all year long. We have had a few periods of hotness. And I think Frank Thomas did have a huge effect on that. They started getting hot in June and dumped off after Frank got hurt. He is someone that by himself cant carry the team anymore. But he is still an imposing force and makes people around him better. This is why they need Ken Griffey Jr. He would provide the same thing and I believe this one guy would make the team a hell of a lot better. We dominated April because our pitching was out of their minds. We have this record because of our pitching and our pitching only. To put any laurels on this offense is a joke.
  16. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) a baseball season is long. these ebbs and flows are going to happen. no team has the pedal to the metal for 162. what has made me confident since the asb? probably the fact that even though we are playing like s*** we still took two of three in new york and swept cleveland in their park. Our pitching won us the Yank series. If you think putting up the aenmic effort against the Yanks starters was something to hold for confidence then you will be amused this weekend when the Yanks invade the Cell and some of those awsome plays that Arow had crashing into dead center at Yank stadium fly deep into that good night in the cell. Lets see if we can hold them to 2 runs this series. I think not.
  17. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) What have you. WE actually did an amazing job yesterday. I couldn't be prouder of Bobby Jenks and the amazing job he did, as well as every other arm IN the bullpen besides Adkins. Not that Adkins did absolutely horrible at first, but he didn't last very long. When I saw that he was the last arm in the bullpen, I groaned. Staying up to watch game that lasted nearly two games worth just to see Adkins give it all away. Sitting in the stands watching men reach 2nd with less than 2 outs to watch the popup and K machine go to work was sickening. But maybe our 230 Team BA in the month of August is just a mirage.
  18. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) relax. Brad Radke and the guy pitching tonight are pretty good pitchers. So was that Matt Guerrier character.
  19. This game was lost on our inability to drive in the runner from second with less than 2 outs. Inste ad of getting the big hits they popped up ala corpseball. Not by the bullpen or by Adkins. After 16 innings and you havent pushed a run across you deserve to get beat. We couldnt hit Matt Guerrier for 4 innings. Thats sad.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) I'll remember that when Pods comes back. Is Pods causing Dye to hit below 200 in August or Crede to hit below .140. Pods is responsible for Timo playing at that is it. Uribe and Crede killing rallies last night was the reason for the loss. They were walking Arow like he was barry bonds to get to the blackhole of the lineup. URIBE POPS IT UP on the first pitch!!!!!!!!!!!! CREDE POPS IT UP!!!!!!!
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) The fat lady has sung... Her name is Hawk and she was doing a rant I guess last night on how Everett is the anchor of the offense and Griffey as a great player for 8 years but times change. Hawk is insane if he thinks that Everett is better than Griffey. Maybe Timo is also.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) Actually that was another thing I questioned. Blum made a heck of a nice pick in the bottom of the 9th, but I can't figure out why Blum is out their for defensive purposes. I figure Konerko is the better of the two defensively, especially when it comes to picking the ball. Maybe I'm wrong though and that was a sweet pick by Blum on Uribe's throw (it was a very good play all around). Blum should of come in for Crede. His bat is absolutely no existant right now and he is having some problems over at 3rd on positioning and basic plays.
  23. If they blow a double digit lead and dont make the playoffs after this start a few things happen. KW is out of a job. There is about 13K at the Cell next year. And Soxfest is a bloodbath.
  24. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) I wonder if he'll ever be able to start at the ML level. He proved tonight that he can throw his heat for at least 3 innings, and he's still very young. If he could start down the road, he'd help make the Sox rotation even more formidable. I know the Sox see him as their future closer and that he's had trouble in starting roles in the minors, but other prospects whose organizations viewed them as closers have become starters after having problems in starting roles. He has had some injuries, a stress fracture last year and he has a pin in his arm. I dont see his arm holding up with lots of innings and the stress of throwing that fastball. For the long term its best to use him in a short relief role.
  25. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) Nice idea............Where did you ever get that from? HAHA A certain FOCKER. Diaz isnt up this year and Grilli is not on the team anymore. Adkins is the designated Tee Ball Stand.
