  1. QUOTE(cragi @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) Brewer fan here to give my take on the overbay rumors. First off, as a brewer fan I believe the Brewers fleeced the Sox to get Lee, as they were desperate both to unload Podz and were equally desperate to acquire power. But if I can just as easily see how a Sox fan would think they fleeced the Brewers. An amazing result for both teams indeed. Second, I love Overbay. The knock on him is what value is a first baseman that can't hit homeruns (only 16 last year.. but he did have 53 2Bs)? He is probably the biggest fan favorite (and my favorite) because he works hard and was the best hitter (by far) on last year's team, though he tailed off at the end when the brewers were out of contention. It seems that many Brewers go through prolonged hitting slumps and you start to wonder about the hitting coach. Overbay can get locked in to hitting for very long stretches and is pretty much automatic when that happens. At his price tag to a cheap team like Milwaukee, you hate to let someone like that go. I still don't think we've seen his best yet..career minor league numbers looked positive and he's about to hit his peak age. It's unfortunate that two of their best players play the same position and are both cheap right now. I really think he's going to turn into a .310/25HR type of player when he levels off and the Brewers could really use that. Unfortunately there is no position for him. He is not versatile enough to move and if we had a DH spot, we'd put Fielder there, but unless we switch back to the AL... The problem is serious as Fielder is ready and the Brewers want him to get experience for next year (see the rash of youth they've brought up already). The Brewers think they have a Frank Thomas - type future perennial allstar in Fielder. They need to move Overbay now. If you had been on the Brewer fan boards at all this year, you'd have seen a hundred posts along the lines of "we know we must deal overbay, but who would take a first baseman that cant hit for power?" These posts began BEFORE the season. His days were already numbered. Melvin is no rush and he's posturing to sweeten the deal. The Sox need to overpay and Melvin won't settle for just an even deal. After all, overbay is the fan favorite, and Mark A has just "won" back the crowds to miller park. the deal needs to look good so it doesnt look like they are just throwing in the towel on the season. That deal seemed to work for both teams. Viz at times can give us heart attacks. His splits against lefties are nowhere near what they were last year. I am more of a fan of high BA doubles type hitters than most. I would like to pick up either Overbay or Huff. Someone that can give us a good bat, which we need but can also be part of a future. Kong will get his big money probably after this year, but I dont see this team paying 10 million for him. I am getting numb to the trade rumors now. This is worse than the hot stove season. Hopefully a few moves are made and we get some reinforcements for the playoff run.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) At first, just from watching Iguchi this season, you wouldn't think of him as the MVP. However, the more you see Willie play, the more you appreciate what Iguchi has done this season. We sure take for granted his contributions. Thank God we picked up Gooch.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Have you missed the 2-3 times he's said Willie's been bad this year. The point is every single a game there's a scapegoat. Willie was bad tonight so were a ton of other players. The entire team played like crap. I am not on willie for just tonight. He has played like crap lately. Tell me it wouldnt be nice to trade for Vizquel, move Uribe to utility player and send Willie down.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Hey -- flavor of the month, it's all good. I hope for Bobby that he doesn't have a couple of bad appearances in a row, though, or else someone's gonna need a new sig. I've never wanted Harris to start. I've felt all along that he'd be a decent fill in for an injured player, and would do Ok in a platoon role. First if you were in gamechat or anything you would know I have been high on Jenks since we picked him up. He is not my flavor of the month. Plus when I was down in ST I got to see him in a few games and was hoping the kid would get his act together. He might not turn out. But thanks for the concern on the sig :finger . Harris is not a good player all around. There was a very big reason KW got Gooch. He didnt hit last year, he couldnt steal last year. He plays some nice defense for the most part.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Oh, ok. Thanks, I'll come to you next time I need help scouting some major league players. Thanks. He would of been sent down if it wasnt for Credes back. That is well documented. But hey maybe we can start him in front of Gooch. I think he is a difference maker.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Neal Cotts wasn't a major leaguer to you, either, earlier in the season. Thank goodness we rushed his ass to Charlotte, huh? Neal had talent. He just couldnt throw strikes consistantly. Willie is a no tool player.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) I don't think he's defending his play. I'm certainly not. He's been awful this year. But Sox fans tend to come up with a scapegoat for every game, rather than a team failing. Harris was awful tonight, but he's not the only one... Willie Harris is not a major leaguer. Ozuna cannot at all anytime play 3rd base Konerko should not be with the team next year for lots of money. And if this was Garcia the A team would of been starting
  8. Okay why is the B team in because we want to rest guys. Yet Kong plays and gload sits on the bench. Unlike the other B teamers. Gload can hit and Gload can play D.
  9. WAY TO f*** OVER MARK OZZIE. OZUNA, WILLIE AND TIMO.
  10. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) ok no Shingo did not pitch well at the begining however he needed to have a chance to work himself out of it. Ozzie gave every opportunity to Koch to get himself to keep the closers role. This is a quote that is perfect about it. It's from Yahoo. Its okay Josh, you can move along. Let Shingo go. Its okay. You can let him go.
  11. He is taking a dump on the team, stadium and the fans. Now he even called the stadium the "Joan". Our team is overachieving. Can a mod move this. I was in the wrong forum when I posted this. Sorry.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Wow people jump off of bandwagons quick. Can't stay healthy? Thome hasn't played less than 143 games since 1998. He hasn't hit less than 40 hrs since 2000, or less than 30 since 1995. Thome hasn't had an OPS under .900 since 1994. 2005 is the first year he has missed signficant time since 1998, and everybody is ready to throw him under the bus. Hell I wish Frank Thomas was that healthy... Sorry that we are not all ready to jump for a guy who has been on the DL twice this year. Is batting 207 with 7 homers in 59 games and is owed a lot of money. I am not sayi ng he isnt a great player. He is one of the best power hitters in the game. But this doesnt make sense to make this move.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Man I can only hope so. I want to see Lowell, Burnett, and possibly Griffey or Huff on the SS.... I cant wait to see the ESPN headlines where they have the smiling players with their new hats and unis and then the trade analysis.
  14. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) Boy, this looks like a pitchers duel! Screw Lima Time! Also, Willie may be playing again tonight: Willie as trade bait???????
  15. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:28 AM) I'm not sure if this exactly the right place for this thread, considering I have heard no source of information hearing the White Sox would be interested. I know that Thome is still on the DL, but with the emergence of top prospect Ryan Howard, does anyone think that the Phillies may just want to dump his salary? Considering that rumors are that Frank may be out for the season, I think Kenny should seriously consider acquiring Thome, a powerful left handed hitter is exactly what this team needs, and he could DH. Once again, I did not hear that the White Sox are interested in Thome, I am just curious to see if any of you would like to see Kenny go after him. CWSOX45 Insane amount of money still left on his contact. Plus he has been hurt for most of the year. I'll take a pass.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) For the record, thanks for your post, but I'm gonna use whatever nickname I darn well please.... TIA Nice hit Ass licker
  17. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) I understand that no one in Ireland cares about Notre Dame. The reason my grandma thought it referred to her dad was because he was always picking a fight. So, that was more my point than Notre Dame is HUGE in Ireland, because well no one in Europe really cares at all about American Football (or American sports in general). I know what your point was Soxy. I was talking more about how people on the southside assume that Notre Dame is the official Irish football team. LOL There is a ton of people that think thats what that little mick logo is all about. There was a night in Cork and Kerrys last summer in Beverly where some fat dolt who had the fighting irish logo tatooed on his leg was telling me that he was irish(no sir you are american of irish decent, and we later found out his last name was Somonski ) and the fighting irish mascot and logo was named after one of his relatives, the fighting somonskis of ireland I guess, and that everyone in Ireland watches the Notre Dame games on Sunday. I am trying to turn my relatives onto baseball and of course the whitesox. But they are more interested in watching Celtic football.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) ESPN Insider Fish hooked? Jul 26 - According to South Florida Sun-Sentinel, a Marlins scout was in Syracuse, N.Y., over the weekend, where top White Sox pitching prospect Brandon McCarthy tossed six strong innings for Triple-A Charlotte. McCarthy, 22, has been mentioned frequently as a key cog in a White Sox offer for A.J. Burnett. He is just 3-7 with a 5.17 ERA this year in the minors, but reports on the 6- foot-7 strikeout artist remain strong. The top hitters on the Charlotte roster include outfielders Brian Anderson, the White Sox's top prospect, and Joe Borchard, a former No. 1 overall draft pick. Remember KW Joe Borchard is no longer on the "untouchable list" . Trade him now and may god have mercy on all of our souls.
  19. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) Actually, when my grandma was little she thought the Fighting Irish was her dad (he was from the old country). So, yeah, some people do believe it. And HELL YEAH! to the win! History of Notre Dame Mascot and team I was using the fighting irish to prove a point. I have to watch myself I remember how fanatic the Notre Dame fans are. LOL But what I think is funny is that people automatically assume that Notre Dame = Official Irish Football Team. I am from the old country. Trust me, no one knows a thing about Notre Dame in the fields of Ireland. They played in Dublin a few years back and people were pissed that the Gaelic Football Final was moved out one week for it.
  20. Everyone should stay about 10 feet away from Limatime. Remember the difference between love and herpes is herpes is forever.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) I think he is better defensively, I dont care what Griffey was, A-row picks up his teammates and has been gold glove caliber this year. And he is the man in the clubhouse and is a work-a-holic, which is the opposite of Griffey who is known to be lazy. No thanks I dont understand the Griffey for Arow move. Arow is batting close to 300. Why would you take one of our consistant bats out of the lineup. Griffey would be more of a DH for us anyways. The only one I could see him replacing is Everett. I would rather get Vizquel and spend the rest on pitching. Our guys should start working towards what Arow and Pods are doing. Getting closer to 300.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Too bad he didn't shank that dirtbag ump in Boston who was working second the night we got shut out. That was f***ing brutal. dat bish bet not show my kids up, dat bish don no who he fock wit, he fock wit me, he fock wit da wrong guy. I am da god dam manager of dis focking team.
  23. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) LOO BISH!!!! WHO AAAA JOO TO SAA WHA HEE GON HAA TO LII WIT AND WAA HE DON HAA TOO LII WIT.
