Game Thread 5-11-2005 Sox .vs. Suckfish

The most impressive thing about this game is not the hits by Konerko and Dye. Its the fact that they were men on, with two outs and then put the ball into right field with level swings instead of trying to park it into the 5th row in left. If they do more of that we will be fine as an offense. If our team starts hitting more line drives instead of trying to make sportscenter we will be able to support our pitching. -

Another opposite field shot. Did they get too close to the red Kryptonite Hopefully Mr Walker realizes that hitting the ball to right is a good thing. It keeps 6+ ERA pitchers from camping out on the outside corner all day. Take this as something learned and get better for it. -

Another 6+ ERA guy looking like a stud against our lineup. I remember when some of the Royals pitchers last year would come in with a 8 ERA and would 2 hit us. This is a joke. -

I am tivoing the game on Saturday. Cabrera K'd 11 against the twins with a 98-99mph fastballs. All that teams does is make contact. I think he may break the record against us. -

Just got out of a meeting. We had the bases loaded last inning and got one run. Wow I love this. We are a hitting machine. -

QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) AJP has thrown out 7 of 30, I know that catching for Freddy, Contreras, and Hernandez doesn't help him at all, but 7 of 30? That's like 23%, that's awful Konerko could steal on us with the jump these guys get. They are geting almost a 3 or 4 step jump before the ball is released. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) Every single player seems to be swinging out of their ass. Greg Walker has to be held responsible for the s*** that's happening with a lot of our hitters. Simply a terrible approach by way too many players. For the last few years we have seen the same approach at the plate. They stand a bit off the plate(except Carl), they dip their back shoulder, their hands are high, and they make a golf swing onto the ball. In the Cell that might work out in the summer. However any pitcher worth his salt can locate a pitch on the outside corner and shut down this team. Walker tinkers a lot with the hitters. In the interview he talks a good game, we need to hit to all fields, in the game they are dipping their back shoulders and looking to launch. And if anyone remembers Walker as a player, he was a lefty who would try and pull for power. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Uribe first pitch swinging... FO to CF, two down. Thats a classic corpseball moment. Warning track shots, striking out on pitches in the dirt, GIDP, weak pop outs -

Remember last year with Crede. The arc he had in his swing is exactly what Konerko and Dye are doing this year. Last year if anyone threw a hanging curve that bit down and in Crede crushed it. If you elevated the fastball its over. Konerko and Dye were good fastball hitters. Now they are getting overmatched with 91-92mph fastballs. -

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) Someone needs to remind the Sox that swinging for the fences is not the only method to scoring runs... Its the Greg Walker way. Dip your back shoulder, elevate your hands and pull baseball son. If you hit it to the warning track then you are getting closer. Keep it up. -

Can Ozzie crack walker in the back of the head and tell him to stop teaching the dip the back shoulder and elevate. This flyball to the track crap didnt work last year when we had thumpers on the team. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Not this same old s*** again today with every deep fly by the Sox getting caught 2 feet in front of the fence. Our leadoff hitter trying to go yard. Corpseball redux -

Brazelton is 1-6 with a 6+ ERA. Thank god for a pitcher with a plus 6 ERA, This is the kind of pitcher we usually rock -
QUOTE(fathom @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) Why do people think Everett is being pitched around? From my viewpoint, Carl gets as many good pitches to hit as anyone on our team. Everett's problem lately has been that he's fouling off the fastball right down the plate, and then he's chasing bad pitches when he's down in the count. Everett's patience has never been good, but it's been horrible lately. Hes doing the same thing that Kong is doing. Taking the fastballs down the cock, and swinging at crap after the count gets in the pitchers favor. When you have guys on its okay to look for a pitch to drive. But usually its the fastball down the cock.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) but if gooch was a stolen base threat, do you think he would see more fastballs?? Spods is a big reason why gooch is hitting over 300 Yes if he had Pods like abilities yes. But the number 3 hitter typically is protected by the number 4 hitter. If they pitch around the number 3 the number 4 is supposed to drive in the runs. That is how it has worked for a long time in the AL.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) It's so Ozzie can let his boyfriend Timo leadoff the game. I am sure he will work the count well. Welcome to tropicana field, Timo Perez to lead it off, Brazelton with the pitch, a pop fly in foul territory and the first baseman strolls over and makes the play. And thats how our game starts off Ed. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) This brings up a good point, If gooch was a larger base stealing threat, would Carl see more good pitches??? Carl would get plenty of pitches to hit if Kong was belting the ball. But with the hitters behind Carl you can pitch anyway you want right now.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) :banghead It has to Hermanson. No question. He should be well rested. But remember this is Ozzie. He likes to get them right back on the horse after they fail. Its a good thing is one way, it drives me crazy though. Shingo has been terrible so far. -

QUOTE(sircaffey @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) Yeah, I would have liked to see Pods in the game too, but he is 1 for his last 11 maybe Oz wanted to give him a break. I don't know...All I know is Oz is in love with Timo and seems to think he's a leadoff hitter, power hitter, and centerfielder all rapped into one. I do like how he is trying to mix things up with the middle of the order. Carl has been pretty damn bad for a while now. He hasn't square anything up for a while. I was growing tired of his weakly grounding to second or failing with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. I hope Rowand has a tremendous day today, so Oz thinks about sticking with Rowand in the 3 hole. Rowand's my pick to click...get 'r done... If you take out Pods put Pablo as the leadoff guy. Put Timo in somewhere else in the lineup. Timo Perez is not what I think of as a leadoff hitter. He doesnt take too many pitches and lisnt fast at all.
