  1. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) Oh Rowand's wife by far was the best. Oh and believe me, I know Baseball Pants likes to talk. I guess I just feel that he forgets he is no longer a player, as much as he tries to act like he is the players' buddies. I also know he loves the Sox ... he just grates on me. Although it would be fun to play the: "Farmer complains about the umpires drinking game." We'd all be drunk by the second inning. Do you think Ross is off the couch yet, or is he in the house with his moronic comment.
  2. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) I was at the seminar with Rowand, Crede, Gload, Politte and their wives and Farmer moderated it. Ooops I'm sorry, Farmer talked the entire time about himself and his career and spent the rest of the time wanting to talk about the Cubs and Wrigley Field. My wife had said that it could have been a great seminar listening to the players and their wives talk about the family life of a major league baseball player. But instead, Farmer talked for 20 minutes about how the Cubs are screwed up because they play day games. Hey, Mr. Baseball Pants .... you're not the show!!! Farmio likes to talk, everyone knows that. The only thing in his defense is that it was like pulling teeth to get things out of the wives at times. He had to lead a lot of the questions and keep pulling. They are not in the media spotlight all of the time and its kind of tough getting up in front of a lot of people and talking. Arows wife did by far the best job at it. But he did lead the conversation about how much wrigley was a dump.
  3. We have had numerous threads about speed at the top and how it will help our boppers have something to drive in. One thing that we are overlooking is the other benefits to have an aggressive running game up top. 1.) Our 3,4,5 hitters will get more hittable pitches. Successful aggressive running creates a situation where you will see more pitchouts. This creates better hitting counts. Also pitch selection changes as pitchers will either slide step or throw more fastballs to get the ball to the plate faster to give the catcher a better chance of throwing out the runner. Plus as we saw last year with Timo. A runner can get under the pitchers skin to the point where they almost forget about the hitter and start to get into a walk fest. 2.) Speed puts the defense on its back heel. It opens holes plain and simple. Now you have players cheating to hold runners or to get into position to accept the throw down. This get defense out of position. It gives the hitters a better chance to hit the ball in the hole or get a ball past a player who would usually be in position to throw you out. 3.) Secondary advancement of bases. Players can advance into better postions after an attempt to throw out a fast runner trying to move ahead. We saw this alot last year. A throw goes into third or to home and the secondary runner advances into scoring position on the long throw. 4.) Breakups of GIDP. GIDPs are rally killers. Having speed is something that can help break this up. A fast runner puts the defense into a position to try and get that lead runner. Forced throws or breakups of the double play can exend the inning. 5.) Aggressive advancement of runners. Watching runners steal and to get to third. This opens up the RBI opporunities immensley. We have now a situation that a sac fly will score the runner. You can give up the out to score the run instead of needing a positive hit to score the runner. I am sure others can add more. But there is a lot more that speed can help this team. Its not revamping the team, but putting a better spin on things we did poorly during our Earl Weaver wait for the 3 run homer offense that we had here for years.
  4. I wonder if Steff was able to make it past the crack staff of chicago whitesox security perhaps my dear god did Katie get past. We did resign a certain Mr. Ben freakin Davis. Could she have gotten into line for Ben. If anyone goes to soxfest tomorrow give Ben a heads up before Katie makes her move. Hopefully they have posted some likenesses of her around for fast recognition.
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Steff is famous. I should of asked for her autograph. While she was giving all of this love to KW and to Brooks there was this guy behind me swearing at her and stating that she must be reinsdorfs mistress or a relative. This guy probably didnt remember her from last year and probably was thinking, where was that clever witty right minded woman that shook her finger and spoke her mind. I liked her.
  6. Steff is famous. I should of asked for her autograph.
  7. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) When he was asked about Iguchi, did he give that laugh?? He looked around a bit and starting asking about how do we even know if he is good. KW there is this invention called the internet. I suggest you get with it. Then he went into his little rant on how he cant talk about ongoing negotiations. BLAH BLAH BLAH
  8. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) What did Kenny say about Iguchi today Someone asked about Iguchi and he did his patented under the radar hemming and hawing. I believe they are still talking based on Kenny's reaction, but they must not be right there. You know KW would of loved to have this signing for soxfest.
  9. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) It was a love fest at that seminar today. Kenny probably thought it was a sneak attack. That Steff was lulling him in, only to have a gang of soxtalk posters take him down.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) How was the Q & A? Completely different than last year. Kenny had to think he was in a different room. Steff was praising, and KW remembered her. Love for Brooks Boyer. Some old guy behind me made a comment that Steff must be Reisndorf's wife or something. They guy must not of been at soxfest last year. LOL.
  11. Kenny remembed Steff from last year. I was at that and the Family matters right before. How gload met his wife was pretty funny and I am sure he is in the doghouse for that one. He made a comment how his wife is older and dated some of his teammates at CSF. She was a softball player and was pretty popular. He stated that "he knew it was good and wanted to get some of that". She tugged on his ear and if he gets near her anytime soon it he will be lucky. I don't know if anyone saw me, I had one of the few babies at Soxfest. My 6th month old son was there to get brainwashed at an early age. ManSooLee rocks, he was in the garage sale line and was pretty personable. The autograph lines sucked. Willie was rapping to himself.
  12. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) This is the best news i've heard all year... AROW! Now Jeckle can just complain about batting order instead of hating Ozzie for not playing AROW enough. Game chat should be fun this year. Jeckle are you doing the whitesoxcentral.com chat if Dylan puts it up again.
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) Levine's Predictions: Clement and Lowe get 11 wins. Kerry Wood wins more games than Freddy Garcia. Randy wins 25 games. Barrett bats for higher average than AJ. Sammy 38 home runs, Beltran 27. I think Clement will win more than 11 games with that offense. Kerry Wood will not win more games than Freddy. What is he going to all of a sudden harness his potential. Come on. Randy, huh maybe. BS on the Barret statement. Beltran will hit 35, Sammy 24 with cork.
  14. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) one minute we a far from negotiations with him now were a day away from getting him damn you levine Blind conjecture and Bulls***, the BRUUUUCCEEE Levine way.
  15. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Bruces crack staff found http://www.rotoworld.com. so much for the great BRUUUUUUCE
  16. Crede hit at every level, he should be able to hit at this level. Sox should be more exciting. Lived and died on the long ball, speed doesnt slump. Didnt learn too much japanese to talk to shingo, but had to make sure people didnt teach shingo colorfull words in english. Carlos was not a clubhouse cancer, made comments that he was trying to be a leader, chirping at others.
  17. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Ozzie believes the team fielded this year has an opportunity to win the division..... First minute or so I couldn't understand a damn word he was saying. He is on a cell phone which makes it worse. You can't tell if its static or ozzie.
  18. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) As a purist fan of baseball, Wrigley IS a great place to watch a ballgame. But Comiskey is still the greatest baseball show on earth. You may now proceed to pummel me for saying the unthinkable about Wrigley. -y2 Well if you like the smell of urine, falling concrete, and weeds on the walls then I guess its a good place to see a game.
  19. Doug M wants to keep the ball Registration required. Dougy wants to keep the ball at the clinch of the world series, the RedSox want it back.
  20. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) YES! I jumped up and down for joy when I heard the Sox got AJ. Add Iguchi...PLEASE. Also, where have you guys heard this about Nenn? I haven't heard about anything between the Sox and him. Do we even have spots in our bullpen? Do we have spots in our bullpen. After last year watching Old Man River Jackson and Billy Chaos rumble out of the pen I never thought the pen would be addressed. Thanks for proving me wrong KW. I would move one of our long relievers back to AAA to season up as a starter just in case El Duque goes down. Send Cotts back to AAA to learn a third pitch and work in the rotation. Atkins is our long man and we are good. If Nen burns out or someone gets hurt Cotts would be stretched enough not to use Mr. Teeball Stand Jason Grilli or Mr. Teeball stand II Felix Diaz.
  21. Heard it myself. GREAT FREAKIN NEWS!!!!!! Get Iguchi and call it a very successful offseason.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) Information doesn't need to come out of "Sox camp." Pierzynski and Iguchi's agent's don't heed to Williams beliefs, as they are attempting to give their agents the best possible offers. When contract information/interest is made public, as I've referenced in my previous posts, Williams "under the radar" mentality doesn't appear to take effect. I don't know how much longer you will continue this useless argument. You are defending Williams, while I'm simply suggesting recent news of Iguchi's offer goes against F.U.W. policy. Are you going to continue to PM me following every post, as to make sure you have the final word. Fine. I fail to understand the difficulty with accepting my position. Flash hits it on the head. Everyone is making a big deal out of KW stating he is flying under the radar. No GM gives out their full deck of cards. Its not in their best interest and doesnt help there clubs. All that this would do is create a bidding war for player X. Steinbrenner doesnt go public on dollar amounts until the ink is dry. Look at how long it takes for the yanks to announce the finalized contract and to introduce the player to their fans. The agent and family members of the players are the sources for most of these leaks. The agent is trying to get multiple suitors to drive up the value of their player to get the best possible deal. The other possible place is leaks from other organizational guys who should keep their mouths shut. KW doesnt have a good poker face and that is the problem. Someone from the press asks him a question and his body language/facial expressions/ and comments give the game away. His self imposed hiatus from the media is due to his inability to keep things under tap.
  23. It seems like the spin machine is in full effect if we dont sign AJ. If we see an article on how Harris is going into the season as a starter then we are goosed. Whitesox.com Plan B for Catcher
