What's the knock on Saito? His numbers look outstanding, don't get why he's getting considerably less (under $2 million according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy) than a lot of these guys on the market are getting. Just his age getting in the way?

white sox the mystery team for Adrian Beltre?
bschmaranz replied to Eminor3rd's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, definitely no dice on that one. Even if they had the money I don't think he'd be a wise option. I'd sooner look to use those "expendable funds" in other areas then spend 70-80 mil on a guy that only performs in contract years. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Yahoo Sports MLB Power Rankings from December 23 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-powerrankings122310 So we add Dunn and drop?? And the Twins are fifth despite no Pavano and no bullepn? Too much eggnog from the writer? I think Oakland being 8th is more out of place. -

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Does anyone who subscribes to insider mind sharing this http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?name=o...&id=5946049 piece with us. It's Olney on top 10 (11) rotation in baseball. Curious to see where he projects and what he says about the White Sox. They're tied with the Dodgers for #10. He says it's a solid core and if Peavy bounces back, they can be great. Very short writeup, two sentences. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 11:24 AM) Yankees sign Pedro Feliciano. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5929488 Two years, 8 million with an option for a third year is what's being reported. He's who I was hoping we were looking at for that other lefty spot out of the pen. Pretty pricey deal though for a loogy though.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 11:52 PM) The Rickettses say "no". But 3 years ago, he would have signed Teahen for 6/$90M I find it amazing that Soriano is still owed over like $70 million.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) With all the money the Sox are throwing around this off-season, I think this might be the highlight so far... http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_..._video_13066619 I want that damn sweater. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Bobby's going to get eaten alive in Boston if he pitches like he did last season. ESPN will destroy him too.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) I'd like to see what prospects the Nationals are looking at here. Willingham has enough talent to have these revamped A's looking pretty good. Agreed. Oakland has managed to snag two of the guys I wanted the Sox to try and snag (DeJesus and Willingham).

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) I went to the Grizzlies game tonight and they absolutely destroyed the Bobcats - from start to finish. It was like "And 1 mixed tape" out there. The Grizzlies probably had 6-7 alley oop dunks and a few other highlight dunks. It was an absolute treat to watch as a fan. What the hell happened to that Bobcats team? They were pretty darn solid last season. They're on pace to lose 50+ this season.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 12:14 AM) Gotta think Wood = revenue for the Cubs. More so than just any old reliever signing, at least. Maybe they're close to sending Zambrano to New York too? -

QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) Interesting to see the Cubs trying to compete, but where are they getting the money to do this? I know Lee, Lilly and Theriot are off the books, but there were some reports that they were slashing payroll by 10-20% from last season. They gave Pena $5 million with $5 million more deffered, and my guess is Wood will be another $2-3 million for next season....not sure how they are doing this, and not sure I completely understand why the Cubs needed Wood - I thought their bullpen was in decent shape, but I guess I lost track of them when they had guys coming up and down all season. In any case, they still look like a team that could compete in the NL Central if their veteran's (Ramirez, Zambrano and Soriano in particular) turn back the clock, but, if not, will probably be competetive, but not good enough to overcome the Cardinals and/or Reds. Their problem is too many guys need to return to old form. You can assume one, maybe two of those guys could come back to a respectable level but in order to compete, they need to see Pena, ARam, Zambrano and Soriano all come up big while guys like Soto, Colvin, Silva and Marshall all not regressing. It's just A LOT of question marks. -

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) I realize a lot of times GM's go around spreading bulls*** just to take away the attention from what they are doing, but Kenny already said they have NO money to spend. Ever think that, well, maybe it's true and they need to make a trade to be able to acquire those relievers? At this point you'd have to think he's looking for nothing but bargain bin relievers. EDIT: 1000th post, only took 6 and a half years!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) a long history of injury Before the year we acquired him, where is this long history of issues? 27 or more starts in the 6 seasons previous.
