  1. With the exception of '08, it seems like Guerrier has been consistently above average his whole career. Sounds like a hell of a guy to bring in. I also don't understand why some of these guys are getting the big money in free agency and this guy isn't getting those kinds of offers.
  2. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) Okay guys, so I've pretty much missed the entire offseason. WTF have we done so far? We signed Bruney....
  3. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) I don't see the point of an "All In" team trading a SP for prospects, relief pitchers, or anything that would open up a hole on the roster. But... Here's a totally wacky scenario I dreamed up: Suspend reality for a minute and consider the following: 1. Trade Quentin and Viciedo to the Rays for SP Matt Garza 2. Trade Gavin Floyd to the Yankees for OF Brett Gardner and RP Joba Chamberlain 3. Trade Juan Pierre to anyone willing to take his contract, maybe with a $1.5 million subsidy 4. Trade Mark Teahen and one of Kyle Bellamy/Charlie Leesman/Nathan Jones to the Mets for OF Carlos Beltran plus $6.5 million. 5. Sign Freddy Garcia (one year, $1.5 million). Net Payroll Hit for the Sox: ZERO* ($19.5 mil out, $19.5 mil in) Now that's "All in"!! Do I think that is reasonable? Not entirely. But how cool would that be? I don't see #2 happening but other then that, I think it's somewhat feasible. Certainly not probable though.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) I don't think you need to worry about the getting married thing. I was about to say the same thing. Enjoy dying alone chief. And at what point financially does comfort-ability become the deciding factor? I'd rather make $30 million and see my family be comfortable with their surroundings then take $100+ million and be miserable. An athlete's career is short enough, might as well enjoy it while you can. You're financially set in either scenario.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) Oh I'm sure according to ESPN those will be in the top 5 moves of the offseason. And they did. Right in the middle of Sportscenter they dropped everything to announce the Yanks had signed Martin. Karl Ravech made a comment along the lines of "Lee is signed, the big chips are starting to fall. Yankees pick up Russell Martin."
  6. Yankees counter? Russell Martin and Mark Prior. Take that Red Sox and Phillies!
  7. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) Russell Martin signed a one year deal with the Yankees. Sportscenter broke their coverage to announce that, like it was some sort of groundbreaking move.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) Verducci says today its >$160 million. That K to BB rate thing is insane. 4 of the top 8 in the league reside in Philly now. As if 3 of 8 weren't great already.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) But, ...Dan Hudson, Dan HUDSON, DAN HUDSON!!!!!! Won't somebody please think of the children!?
  10. Sox signed Brian Bruney and they're bringing back Donny Lucy. Both minor league deals. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/whit...ian-bruney.html
  11. Didn't Kotsay also don a cape dance to "Baby Elephant Walk" on the dugout between innings?
  12. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Dec 12, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) MB is going no where unless he is traded to St Louis. My proposal is the following: MB for Colby Rasmus. TCQ for Matt Garza Sign two relievers. Offseason over. I think there'd be a statue of Kenny in front of The Cell if either of those moves happened.
  13. I don't believe it for a second but at the same time, if they found a way to upgrade this team by moving Buehrle, do it!
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 12, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) Yeah, he's got a mid-upper 90's fastball with movement along with a wicked slider and a curveball that is usually unhittable. He was actually very good his first year peripherally aside from his BB rate which is always high, and he was more than "good" in his time with New York, he was vicious. His questions are all about his health and his walk rate, but when he's healthy and on the field he is the type of pitcher that could walk the bases loaded and still K the next three guys. When he gets ahead of hitters it's very hard to get him on his slider or curve. There's your key there. When is that? His ability to stay healthy for a couple months last season ends with him getting a s***load of money... Just doesn't make sense to me.
  15. I don't get the Kerry Wood love from some around here. He has a good couple months in New York and all of a sudden he's worth a ton of money. Forget the last two years in Cleveland where he was pretty damn bad.
  16. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) One thing I noticed reading today's Tribune is that Konerko was ready to take 10 million to play for the Dbacks per season. So we basically had to up the ante to pay him and he would've given a hometown discount to get out of here or maybe because it was his home. I think it had more to do with their willingness to offer a 3rd year and us staying firm to 2 years.
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Cowley - I love how Trib columnist-by-default continues to pretend he knows what he's talking about with his "sources.'' Clean the pool, junior. I thought it was funny that he was mocking Phil Rogers for getting info wrong, so I replied to the tweet..... Me - @cst_sox By the way, good call on the Konerko ship-sailing. Would have been nice to bring him back. I hope Plan B and C work out! Then he said.... Cowley - @JoeCoolMan24 I believe the S-Times was the only media outlet that had the story last night that despite what KW said, JR wanted it done. and then.... Cowley - @JoeCoolMan24 News is fluid - you are either covering as it happens and as it changes or you cover it after the fact. I do it the first way. He replied to me within minutes it seemed. Shoulda said something about the "kids can play II" bulls***.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Nah, it was fluff and laughter and revealed nothing. Did he say something funny which then prompted the hosts to say, "Gordon Beckham, you slay me"?
  19. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) Or maybe he's not a part of the 2011 All-In White Sox. So does that mean we're moving Castro too?
  20. After all the arbitration stuff is done, baseball-reference is estimating a $120.3 million payroll: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CH...10-roster.shtml I don't know if they're counting Jenks there, they still have him listed at arb-3.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) You yadda yadda'd over the best part. He mentioned the bisque...
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) Because he has had to face Boston pitching throughout the entirety of his career there. Boston has had some pretty damn good pitchers while Crawford has been in the majors. I'd start naming names, but, including relievers, it's probably 20-30 names long. Oh pish posh and flim flam. He's not gonna earn that $142 million!
  23. We're talking about Choo now? Why would the Indians even think about moving him? Guy's a damn monster.
