  1. I have to work tonight so this is a pleasant surprise.
  2. Only way I see Griffey here next season is if Thome doesn't reach the necessary plate appearances to activate his option and we buy Ken out and sign him for less money. Isn't the option on him something ridiculous like 16 million?
  3. Wow, the Dodgers have a power hitter? Hell hath frozen over.
  4. They just said on ESPNNews that the Sox are close to a deal for Lannan.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) Is there anyone listening to score that can confirm that Rogers is saying it's Joel Hanrahan now? I was just in the car and heard that. Everything is speculation. They said the Sox were talking to Washington and that's all they could confirm. Everything outside that is speculation.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) He hit #600 on June 8. Thanks to the wonders of the internets, I just calculated his numbers from June 9 to the AS break. He hit .177, with that classic .754 OPS, for the month after he hit 600. The only part of his numbers for this season that look good are his post all star break numbers. He's had a 2 week hot streak and there's no way around it. Everything else is low. Well fooey!
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) I bet Swisher gives up #30. Bite your tongue!
  8. Marlins are apparently getting a bit too greedy. ESPN Deadline Blog They just said "Massay" again on ESPNNews
  9. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) When is the deadline? 3pm est? 4 I think
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) I don't think the numbers monthly back you up. They read to me as saying that Griffey's also only had one hot streak and it's just been the last couple weeks. OPS By month: April 768 May .696 June .795 July .921 (While he put up a .795 OPS in June, he also only hit .205 that month). Pre all star, Griffey put up a pretty consistent .235, .348, .400, .748 plus or minus about 50 points of OPS. This month is currently the outlier. Let's hope he keeps up the 900 OPS the rest of the season, but I'm still concerned. One think to perhaps consider is the fact that he was swinging for the fences trying to get 600. That can screw with your swing and your game in general. I hope we see .900 or something in that neighborhood. He's over the hump and he should hopefully be re-energized now that he's in a pennant race.
  11. Anyone watching the deadline special on ESPNNews? Steve Phillips just said that the Sox added another lefty to a dominant left-handed lineup. Uh... what? And Kirkjian just called Nick "Massay".
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) "Giantism!!" Let's hope Ozzie doesn't put Ken on brain tonic. "There's a party in my mouth, and everyone's invited!"
  13. I've been wanting to use this picture as an avatar for years and now I have a reason, yahoo!
  14. They're talking about the Chicago Fire on the Score, what the f***!?
  15. The only thing that keeps running through my mind is "okay, where's Thome headed to?" Seems like the only solution if Griffey can't play center anymore. But where the hell would Thome be going? Another AL team in the hunt?
  16. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 11:40 PM) That would have been awesome if CQ while hugging Morneau just suplexed him.... I would have preferred the chairshot.
  17. Isn't everyone's favorite part of the Josh Hamilton saga when the Cubs dealt him for nothing?
  18. I heard they also need a sperm sample for admission
  19. Only if Jurassic Carl, Sandy Jr. and Roberto Alomar and Shingo come with him.
  20. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) If and this is a big IF Joe gives us a hometown discount and he is somehow extended what happens to fields? Do they ask him to change his position or is he moved? I honestly would love it but don't see Joe back in a Sox uniform next year....I have never been that high on Fields like a lot of people here and would rather have a proven hitter/defender at 3b. I don't think last season proved Fields of anything..... Big if there but I'd think either he'd be moved to try and give us some veteran help somewhere now or this'll be either Pauly or Thome's last season in a White Sox uni and Fields will take over one of their spots.
  21. If only Swish could start hitting, I'd have called this a superb offseason for Kenny (Alexei and CQ raking, Cabrera starting to turn it on).
  22. Scott Radinsky used to live down the block from my parents... And if we're talking about just Chicago athletes/personalities, Tom Dore lives near my parents too. Used to run into him at the Dominicks (now it's a Garden Fresh Market) all the time. Last year, I took portrait photos of the Main West Feter basketball team and he was the coach of the 7th grade squad. Real nice fella. Never realized how large of a man he is. I guess standing next to Red Kerr all these years, he doesn't look nearly as huge as he is.
  23. Stoney was on The Score earlier pretty much berating the Cubs for dealing Hamilton for $50k.
