  1. Oh all joking aside, we say $10M but.... are they reinvesting the money from our 2.9M attendance record last year, the slight increase in season ticket prices, and the revenue from the newly added skybox luxury suites??? So, is it really $10M or is it much more? OR after JR got the ball from Konerko in a tear jerking ceremony has he decided to cut payroll and put an extra $10M in his pension fund so when he retires he can purchase the Dodgers? QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) How about Luis Gonzalez for LF to go with Kenny Lofton for CF - both temporary short gaps? Luis should not break the bank and we could get him for a short, reasonable deal Last year's #s - 0.271, 15 HRs, 73 RBI, OBP 0.352, SLG 0.444 Luis signed with the Dodgers for $7M or $8M 1 year
  2. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) best post ever. myabe some RP or a backup catcher. i think were ok besides that. Thanks!
  3. With the $10M, if I were KW, I would inquire about a small island of the shores of San Juan Puerto Rico and start kidnapping little children and bring them to the island to prime them as #1 prospects for the 2019 Chicago White Sox. It would kind of like a Michael Jackson's Neverland without the touching.
  4. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) I heard it too, but I think they missed the point. The problem here was not losing the player as it was in all those other cases. Everyone knew either Freddy of Javy would be gone by April 1st. What everyone here wants to know is wether we got enough in such a crazed market. Although I don't mind this trade so much, I don't think there is an argument against that. IMHO- We got more than enough for a 30 yr old pitcher losing velocity in his contract year who can't hold a runner on to save his soul!!! PK probably would have racked up 2-3 SBs last season off of Garcia. Dont get me wrong, I thought Freddy was great and he was clutch for this team but Its get Gio & Gavin NOW or 2 unknown draft picks after next season!
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) I think it's cause KW said he wouldn't make any move that wouldn't help the 2007 team squad. How did this trade not help in 2007????? We put a up and coming pitcher in the rotation, saved $10M to spend elsewhere and stocked our farm system with 2 solid guys (if they dont go to the bullpen in 07). All you all were saying that garcia is lazy, poor work ethic, pothead, lost velocity... well he's gone? How are we not better?
  6. I just dont understand a majority of the posters on this board. All last season we hear rants and raves about "Trade Garcia" "McCarthy in the Rotation" Now, McCarthy IS in the rotation... how did this team lose ground on where they were last year?? Even though Freddy won 18 games you all wanted him gone.. and claim McCarthy is the next coming of Christ. I dont think the issue is Garcia being gone but more so what KW got for him. I hate to break it to you all BUT a 30 yr old pitcher making $10M in his contract year with this market is not 1) going to settle for an extension 2) is not going to bring you a Vernon Wells. I hate to say it but ... Freddy was IMHO the 2nd to last pitcher in our staff, KW got what he could for a guy that would walk next season. So lets say this, the trade never happens, we loss Freddy after the season and we get WHAT?? 2 draft picks??? I would rather have a former top prospect with MLB experience and a lefty with good minor league experience than... Joe Blow and John Doe (only draft picks)! Also keep in mind: Freddy CANT hold on a runner to save his SOUL!
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Get out of here with your logic. We're too busy panicking. Sorry!
  8. Everyone is quoting rumors "Garcia for Wells" "Garcia/Crede and Santana/Figgins" "Garcia for whoever." These are all rumors, someone might have heard something walking around and had to report something... thats it rumors. The fact of the matter is, what kind of value is there for a 1 year rental player that can not hold runners on first????

  10. mlb.com already has a picture of Freddy decked out in Philly dubs!
  11. Ok, so truthfully, how many of you dreaded the fact that you had to go see Freddy pitch last season knowing it would take over 3 1/2 hours to finish the game. Not to mention that fact that when Freddy would look over to check back the runner on 1st he would already be standing on second or third. I can tell you from conversations in my section that Freddy games were the most dreaded last season. Now, bare in mind how many bases were stolen off of Freddy last season. Out of 29 other teams how many of them want a #2-#3 pitcher that makes walks look like doubles?
  12. I really think that something is up with Garcia. Keep in mind, he has family ties to Ozzie and I am sure Ozzie along with Kenny know a lot more then we know about Garcia and his situation. Either way, I have faith in KW that there is another deal or two to come to improve this team. As it stands right now, we have kept the same exact team but replaced an 18 game winner with an unproved pitcher in McCarthy. With the way this board boast McCarthy, he should be a 22 game winner so we would essentially end the season with 94 wins! I really think that something is up with Garcia. 13. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:33 AM) We must be clearing payroll room for Zito, duh. Exactly what i was thinking (hoping)
  14. John Delcos of The Journal News says Rich Harden's name is coming up more in talks between the A's and Mets than Joe Blanton's and that a package of Lastings Milledge, Aaron Heilman and Philip Humber could get a deal done. From Roto: What would it take for the sox to get those 3?
  15. Looks the the Cubs might possibly get hosed... sounds like Lilly prefers the Yanks over the Cubs AND might play for them for less (looking for 4/40) and Mench seems to be locked up by Toronto. Could it be the that Cubs spend tons but still come out with NO rotation???
  16. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) Good point. I think I'm referrng to our .500 to sub .500 play in the second half. Yes 90 wins is great and no slouch. But I think we amassed a lot of them 1st half, yes? I just remember all of the second half winning one, losing one, winning one, losing two... ugh. And we never did put together any kind of streak all year, and not one in the second half. True, a lot of our wins came in the 1st half... hell, i think are only long streaks (4-8 games) were in the first half and our major streak was when Ozzie was calling people f**s. IMHO i believe a lot of what the Sox did in the first half last season was over shadowed by Ozzie and his mouth (not that that matters).
  17. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) I'll offer 51.1 million dollars to your current employer for the rights to negotiate a 50,000 dollar a year contract with you. My employer would love you but id be pissed!
  18. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Can you hit a curve ball? Actually, yes, yes i can! At the major league level no!
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) I don't condone Ozzie's big mouth or the way that he treats certain players, but he's still the best manager the Sox have had since LaRussa. Dude, i dont know... Terry Bevington was pretty sweet!
  20. Just to break it up a little... how come normal everyday work life can't be like the winter meetings and free agency? I am going to take a break for 2 months and people could start bidding on me to work for them. Everyone could spread office rumors about me and who i might go to work for and how much i might get from my other employer. See that would be friggin sweet!
  21. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) In '06 we were now this dream team with Dye and Thome and the best pitchers and better on paper and this and that... and we were worse than sucking: we were mediocre. Great post just i dont see 90 wins as sucking. We would have had 1st in 2 of the 3 NL divisions or the Wild Card in the NL and we would have been second in the AL East and West. The Tigers were an amazing team last year and the twins finally put it together in the second half.
  22. Wouldnt mind seeing that happen but i dont think Bonds is worth $18M not to mention (of all rumors) he would truely be a clubhouse cancer. Did him and AJ get along in SF?
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) Taveras and pitching, sure, that's a good trade, IMO, to consider and start with. Says here the Sox are interested in Jason Hirsh of Houston, a minor league pitching prospect. Anyone know anything about him? http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines scroll down. 24. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Imagine what Cotts and Garcia could have gotten from Houston based on their needs. Whats the chances of the base of the deal with Garcia to the Astro's for Willy Taveras and (ideas?).
  25. Regardless of everything, I dont feel that there is room for mack and his $2M plus salary on this team. We have a solid option with Sweeny in AAA to fill in in the outfield. Our Bench would look more attractive with: Ozuna (in/of), Cintron (in), Gload (in/of), Sweeny (of), Backup Catcher IMHO.
