  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) Never thought I'd see the day this late in the season where an Alex Rios 2 for 2 still doesn't get him up to a 600 OPS. Did he actually hit 2 line drives or were they "accidental" hits? The 2nd hit he tatooed it off the wall but Young played it pretty well and held Rios to a single. Didn't see the 1st one.
  2. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) I doubt we'll choose to add payroll at 3B next year with Morel's 2nd half improvement. He has what I would call a "reasonable shot" at becoming a solid everyday player and we should be able to give him the job next year. He has shown more patience of late. I still hope he can be a 2 hitter eventually, though he has to continue to show OBP improvement. Another 2 HR day . That's 2 in the last week. Both to CF so he's showing very good pop now.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 06:24 PM) Thanks for increasing your offseason trade value, Mr. Danks. Even fathom is bored with our current stretch of play against DET at this point...don't see him here. Maybe watching football or babysitting instead. I'd like to see one game without Pierre, Rios or Dunn in the lineup. Just one !
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) Wow, just saw that Viciedo throw. What a stud! It was such a strong throw it reached AJ maybe a little bit more than head high on the fly. It probably would have carried another 50-75 feet. I can't wait to see him uncork one from the warning track though no matter how strong your arm is you usually hit a cutoff man from that far.
  5. Thought of starting a thread on this but did anyone see Viciedo gun down Crowe at the plate. ? Here it is http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/mlb/gameda...09&c_id=cws 1st chance I've seen for him to show off that arm. Top gun !
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) Viciedo has a cannon for an arm. Holy s***. You don't run on that tank when it fires !
  7. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) Dunn didn't get the big pay day for hitting .037 against lefties.. did he? He got it for driving in Runs. Dunn is not in the situation if Rios, or Alexi gets hits earlier in the game. That wasn't the only time they had bases loaded and less than 2 outs. Ozzie doesn't need to show up Kenny.. Kenny's record is case enough for that. One of his smartest moves, was to start Dunn, who had success against Carmona, who is also struggling. Regardless of what he got the big payday for the fact is .037 against lefthanders . .037 !!! It's like putting a blind man to bat in a crucial situation. There is nothing more to say , nothing more to discuss.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) Ozzie said Dunn makes too much money to get PH for. The more I hear the worse it gets. He actually said that ? Please tell me he's already been fired and he's just a lame duck manager.
  9. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) He was f***ing around with a fishing pole in the dugout, acting like he didn't give two s***s about managing. He also failed to pinch hit Viciedo for Dunn in the 9th, instead opting to pinch hit him for De Aza, who had 2 doubles in the game. Really a fishing pole ? You're serious ? Like seasons over it's time to go fishing ? If he get's away with that and is back next year it'll be unbelievable. The Dunn decision was bizarre. He deserves every bit of criticism he got on Fox . Too bad I couldn't hear any of it.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) No...it didn't. The replay I saw he flipped it back with his glove. Front view you couldn't tell. Kind of the side view obvious it didn't. Yea I just watched it online slowed down and up close and it didnt hit the wall.
  11. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) that would have been at least a triple with Rios out there... I've seen the replay a few times and still not sure if that hit the wall.
  12. Thank you all for your contributions. Wasn't nearly as much negative feedback as I thought there would be...yet. Good baseball discussion.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) Offensively, Morel was basically worthless at the plate until this team was out of contention. If you want to say he picked it up once it became apparent that Rios/Dunn were terrible, that would have meant Morel started kicking ass basically in early June. Again, he's had a nice run of late but let's not make it sound like he was some "versatile" productive hitter this year. That said, it would be great to see him continue to show improvements the next 20 games. Also the picture you paint is more an indictment of Sox management than it is of Morel . It isn't solely up to Morel to single handedly make up for those guys lack of production. When he started doing it isn't the point anyway . He's doing it now whereas how many other players on the Sox are doing what we have suggested they do ?
  14. He's been more versatile than many of the Sox hitters. Can Dunn change his approach ? Can Rios ? Has Beckham ? In most cases you are who we thought you are. Morel has been hitting the ball oppo all year now he's turning and burning somewhat. That's versatile to me.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) But say the Sox make some changes this offseason the free up some cash (Quentin/Danks, etc). The argument was that 3rd would have been the easiest place to make upgrades since you're not going to be able to unload Dunn/Rios. Yes easy because of his salary. Not easy because of the lack of production among ML 3rd basemen is pitiful. Only the truly elite 3rd basemen have a solid glove and bat. The rest of the bunch are lacking either offensively or defensively.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) You're arguing against no one right now it seems. Go back about 10 days ago, and you'll see balta (I believe) and myself and Cangelosi talking about how the Sox media were starting to rip on Morel for his "sissy" approach at the plate. Now, we're seeing the actual change in his batting philosophy that many of us said wanted to see...and it's very nice to see the results follow. I will add that it's pretty disgusting to see it take this long for Morel to make the changes with Walker not being able to break through to him. I will agree that I would have liked to see him grip it and rip it more often but that wasn't what was expected from him this year. Maybe he should have changed his approach earlier but expecting Morel to outproduce Dunn and Rios was never in the cards . Once it became apparent that those 2 were terrible beyond belief Morel has made strides . It's just not that easy to change gears like that but he has , showing that he's a smart and versatile hitter.
  17. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Maybe I'm using the wrong word. My fault. I don't mean they can't afford his salary, but they can't afford to have another whole in the line up. It would be easier to hide a guy while he learns how to hit if the Sox didn't have the other holes in the line up. No problem I was using the word afford in both ways. With all the holes he's making nothing compared to the other holes. Dun and Rios are HUGE HUGE HUGE problems for the Sox compared to Morel both offensively and money wise.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) Just like Beckham improved the second-half of last year. What do I want from him? Carry this into the BEGINNING of next season. Not 4 months into the season. We'll see what happens. I think he has his head on straight and we won't see a Beckham like drop off but improvement is certainly much better than regression.
  19. On a side note. I read that if Flowers had got down the sac bunt last night Ozzie would've pinch hit for Morel with AJ.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) Those numbers would be fine over the course of a full season. Great, actually. I thought so too.
