  1. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 07:08 AM) Hilarious if you haven't been on the internet for the last 5 years of Chuck Norris jokes I suppose guess we don't run in the same internet circles.
  2. Fox picked up the Sox’ home game Sept. 10 game against the Indians, changing the time from 6:10 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. ◆ The Sox’ game Sept. 4 at Detroit was picked up by ESPN2, changing the time from the afternoon to 7 p.m. Central.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) He looks slow and uncomfortable out there to me a lot of the time. I'm not saying I want Molina/Wieters. But I think unless he's going to be a beast offensively (I'm talking top 5 or so among AL catchers offensively), his defense is not good enough to catch everyday. With Flowers behind the plate, the Sox's starting pitchers have a 2.57 ERA over their past eight games. The bullpen has a 2.01 ERA in its past 13 games - the past 10 of which have been handled by Flowers. (taken from a Tribune article) and Buerhle said he's fun to throw to being such a big target and frames the pitches well and MB never shook him off. Said Tyler called a good game.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) Actually, it has sucked. It's sucked majorly. What has it produced since the winter of '07? And I don't mean just internally. But externally as well. Don't say Peavy. Even if he had worked out, that was a salary dump and nothing more. No upgrades have been made at the trade deadline the last couple years despite glaring needs because there was nothing in our inventory (outside of Dayan) to dangle. I'm just saying with 3 guys all from AAA leading this little resurgence it's got people excited again and that's the product of the minor leagues no matter how you slice it. And its looking better with the trade for Stewart and a number or good young arms like Sale and Santos ( yea I know a lot of you won't count Santos) Reed, and Infante. Hell, if Beckham keeps bombing maybe Kuhn can be a decent hitter.
  5. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:49 PM) I'm just as excited about every one of these guys. I think Flowers has blown away any expectations. He's done a phenomenal job IMO...there's not reason to think he can't build on it. Like I said in a previous thread...(and granted it's the AFL)...but watching him hit just saying "damn". I'd have no problem handing the reins to Tyler right now. Not that I dislike AJ...I'm just ready for change. Same can be said for De Aza. What is there not to like about this kid? I'm not gonna sit here just waiting for a slump from him like it seems some might do. BTW...LOVED the Hawk rip on Rios about "being in the game" on the sinking liner De Aza snagged. Viciedo...he just needs to play...everyday. Good god...if Rios could be jettisoned...and outfield of CQ, De Aza and Viciedo would rock. Even if he can't be...this is what should be. I agree about DeAza . I know Balta was clamoring for him a lot. So he gets credit for that but the speed, the extra base power the hustle the fielding even can bunt . I know small sample size but he looks pretty damn good.
  6. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) Please stop calling this "Ozzieball". Ozzieball is wasting precious outs and playing overpaid, under-performing losers out of position and slotted into detrimental lineups designed around no statistical logic. I said that tongue in cheek. Just was saying they did the things Ozzie ball is supposed to emulate like sac bunts , steals and taking the extra base. Saw that a lot tonight.
  7. Actually with Dunn and Rios sucking its a rebuild on the fly when you think about it. The Minor league system hasn't sucked as much as everyone's been saying so far.SOx have pretty good pitching if Viciedo Flowers and De Aza continue to hit and stay in the race then we get Q back and who knows what can happen or even without Q.
  8. I was going to say very early in the game thread before the game started that the Sox won't be below .500 for the rest of the year but I forgot . So I'm saying it now.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) If the Sox sweep the Twins and the Royals get one more vs Detroit, then the lead would be down to 3.5 going into the weekend. Then if the Sox take 2 of 3 in Detroit, the Sox would be down 2.5 with 25 left. If this plays out the rest of the week, I'll officially jump back on. Wow you've changed your tune quite a bit. Every other post out of you was how it was over and we'd never catch the Tigers to paraphase you. We need you man jump back on now !
  10. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) I'm curious, and please don't misinterpret my motive here. I'm not trying to say "I told you so", as it's much too early to draw any conclusions. However, for those of you who were so certain that de Aza was nothing more than a "AAAA" player, or a "4TH outfielder", have you changed your minds about his ability to play and contribute, on a regular basis, at the Big League level? I personally have always liked his skill set. He's a good outfielder, with speed and a good arm. He hustles, has some pop and just plays the game the way that I like to see it played. He has really been sensational vs. RHP, the last two seasons at AAA, and seems to be able to translate that skill to the Majors. Next season, I'd like to see a Lillibridge/de Aza platoon in Left, if either Quentin or Rios is gone. If the Sox could only unload that Rios contract, I'd love an outfield of Viciedo in Left, a platoon of de Aza and Lillibridge in Center, and Quentin in Right. What do you guys see in de Aza, and what do you think of the platoon idea? De Aza can do a little bit of everything as tonights game so boldly illustrated. I like him a lot but I'm one of those "glass is half full" guys when it comes to the Sox. I think he's a huge asset and injects a lot of life into the team. He's had triples doubles and HR's in his short time up and fields his position very well. I think Viciedo is a right fielder because of his arm so DeAza can play center and If we still have Q maybe LF for him. Lilli will be the Jack of all trades.
  11. De Aza real good game . 2 hits, sac bunt, stole 3rd to set up the sac fly by Flowers, nice running catch coming in on a ball in the early innings. Alexei with the tag up on a fly to center then scoring on the infield hit too. Viciedo 1st to 3rd on a De Aza single and a stolen base. Ozzie ball by the kids !
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) ESPNStatsInfo ESPN Stats & Info Mark Buehrle earns his 27th career win vs the Twins-the most wins for any active pitcher against a single team. I waited for you to start the winners thread but waited as long as I could.
  13. Nice interview with Flowers post game said Mark never shakes him off.
  14. I had to laugh right after I posted this Chuck Garfien called them the young guns too.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) It's definitely possible. Ozzie loves his slappy, crappy guys I say nay. He won't be back.
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) they will I think that is fathom's point That's why I asked. Between his salary and Q, Rios, De Aza, Viciedo , Lillibridge and Milledge even finishing the season strong won't get him brought back.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) There's nothing wrong with Pierre having a bad end to the season. You think he'd be brought back if he finished strong ?
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) Why can't we f***ing hit the ball at home? The Twins have a s***ty team and this game is in serious doubt with us allegedly in the 'race' and Detroit losing! I won't stress myself at all as long as we have a lead.
  19. Guillen must be nuts. He keeps Dunn hitting 4th for ever so then when he finally benches Dunn he bats Rios 4th. I swear if I didnt know better I'd say he's got money riding on the other team.
