5/18: White Sox vs Guardians - 1:10 PM Start

Looks like Grandal is OK and playing a day game after a night game. Lineup is all RH except for 10D. Moncada not playing against the LHP which jibes with what I heard about him not being able to hit RH. -

Probably should. No need to get sucked back in . I'm never one to say they are out of it by record alone but a lot of poor performances would have to do a 180 . Crochet and Hendriks would have to be better than we have a right to expect them to be and they have 0 starting pitching depth and always have injury issues. That doesn't even take into account how bad the FO is. -

It's actually shocking that if you did that same graphic with Burger and Tim , Burger would win by a nose. -
They still sign Venezuelans but it's the lack of impact Dominican players over the years that has killed them when there are so many good Dominican players in this sport. I don't consider the Pacific rim players to be a big problem. Those older players would normally be up the Sox alley but they are usually more expensive signings and you never really know how their talents are going to translate. But the influx lately of Ohtani , Suzuki and Yoshida were pretty good players. However Yoshida cost the Red Sox a $105.4 M investment. Sox would never pay that for a Japanese player. Suzuki was right around $100M also with the posting fee included.

Definitely had to do with other calls from yesterday. Gavin going with the conspiracy theory of umpiring or just plain incompetence . -
Burger 2 run shot . 3 games in a row with a HR. 3/4 also hit a triple now hitting .278, 1.095 OPS Sheets and Vaughn with solo shots. TA and 10D both with 2 hits and an RBI each. Robert homer streak ends at 4 games with an 0-4 night. Grandal 2/3 but came up lame after a swing and miss and was pinch ran for after singling. Doubtful he'll start tomorrow . After that we'll see. Final: 7-2 White Sox !!!

Only 1 run after all that. Decent if not harrowing job by Lopez. More blame to the Cleveland hitters than credit to Lopez. -

3 steals for the game and a hit and run there works perfectly. Nice work Petey Grifol. -

Good inning for Clevinger only 12 pitches. I wonder if they put him out there for the 7th with the 8 and 9 hitters coming up. -

He'll be out there to start the 6th. Guardians are not a dangerous lineup. He's only at 71 pitches so despite the 5 hits and 2 walks he's been semi efficient. -

But who in their right mind bats perhaps your best HR hitter 8th when you 1 and 2 hitters have 0 HR's. All teams have a better win percentage when they hit 2 or more HR's so our HR hitters need more opportunities and our 0 HR guys need less opportunities. And Gavin despite the hate for him hits RHP pretty well . Grandal should bat 8th because he isn't healthy, fast or young enough to be in the middle of the lineup. Tim and Beni 6th and 7th. Tim for health reasons also. -

Burger 3 straight games with a HR !! -
But I think it's a fallacy that the Sox starting pitching has short outings. All teams deal with that problem and the Sox did try to remedy it by throwing money at relievers while neglecting the position player depth and player development. Relievers are notoriously inconsistent and old relievers are prone to injury although almost all pitchers are also. Reinsdorf failings are based on how he chooses not to spend money on the development of youth . It's been reflected in how the Sox have operated over the years in the International FA market usually going for older players and ignoring young or Dominican players or trading away money meant for IFA's. Hahn also has traded away youth like Semien , Tatis etc while also not trying to get more youth. And they are always out there. Plenty of young players are blocked or are given up on by their 1st organizations and get traded. Look around at all the good players who started off with other organizations who gave up on them or threw them into trades.

I don't. You said yourself that giving Robert more ABs make sense so having 2 players at the top with no HR moved own allowing guys with more HR more AB also makes sense. Leadoff must be 100% healthy to be who he is. He is not peak TA any more. He needs to get healthy and less responsibilities in the lineup to help him get there. -
No doubt. I always bash the owner 1st because the whole direction the franchise takes is based on how he thinks the money is spent best. The problem with that is , he's a baseball fan imposing his lack of knowledge about the sport into his ownership of the team and has learned very little during his tenure. I tend to give the players a lot more rope.
