  1. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:19 PM) My Tigers friend called him Sir Edwin. Not flashy, but I guess there's a bunch of people who called him that? Then again, just like they hated "O-E-O Magglio" in DET, we should probably reject Sir Edwin because it's another team's "thing". Old school would be Fast Eddie.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) Ok. So, 91 pitches. Does he start the 8th, or go out on top and with a shutout performance? I run him out in the 8th and pull him if anyone reaches. He's just getting warmed up now. He should pitch the 8th.
  3. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) Freddy and Garcia are gonna teach him a splitter? Sick I see what you did there.
  4. Tiger announcer said Coop wanted Jackson to stand taller on the rubber.
  5. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) I checked the gamelogs on Baseball Reference for Lexi, and it was actually around the middle of May this season when he started to hit. His #'s since May 15th: .333BA .364OBP .494SLG .858OPS, pretty darn sweet with the D we're getting from him. And really, those are excellent 2 hole numbers. His 2009 #'s from May 22 onward: .296BA .355OBP .424SLG .779OPS His 2008 #'s from May26 onward: .305BA .332OBP .505SLG .837 OPS He's starting to get hot slightly earlier each season. I predict he'll get it going around May 8th next year. I'd like to see how game time temp correlates, if any, but I don't quite have the time. He (and Gavin too) should be hypnotized next March into thinking it's June. Good work. I'm glad to see Ozzie finally getting him away from 8th in the order batting him 2nd. Where did I see him yesterday 5th or 6th ? Beats Kotsay or AJ there. Now move Beckham up too and play Viciedo some more.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) Everything Thome said suggested yes. The big motivation that we kept getting over the offseason was that Kotsay could also play in the field, while Jones couldn't, and thus that'd let the team rest Konerko and Quentin more. Don't you mean Thome ?
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Yeah, that is a good point and further clouds the issue. Why did Ozzie want Thome gone, when Thome is a great chemistry guy; yet he doesnt want to rid the team of Kotsay, who is a great chemistry guy? I can't answer that one. Maybe that'd be a good one for Rongey. Was Thome willing to accept a platoon here? Of course he was. He knows what point his career is. He's accepted a platoon with the Twins and he accepted an even lesser role with the Dodgers last year at the end of the season. For a guy who's done so well over the last few years it was pretty surprising how most teams snubbed the guy. At least he wasn't stubborn about it the way Dye was and was willing to play for $1 million a year. That decision itself shows you he's not full of himself.
  8. QUOTE (joeynach @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Official prediction on 8-3-10 by Joeynach. When Mark Tehean comes off the DL and returns to the Sox active roster, instead of optioning Viciedo down to AAA to make room like everyone thinks, the team will release Mark (.220 BABIP) Kotsay. I was thinking about posting very similar to what you did. This is the ideal opportunity to do it. Teahen's injury has done a lot to help the Sox. Showed how Vizquel's D could stabilize the pitching staff and the infield in general that he could still hit decently enough. It also gave opportunities to Tank and Lillibridge which they have not squandered. Gave Kotsay more opportunities to show what he is worth which he has squandered. Captain it is the only logical choice.
  9. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) I know he has to deal with quite a few knuckleheads calling in to the postgame shows, but does anyone else think Ranger is a little full of it/himself? I find his demeanor to be condescending at times and he seems to toe the company line far too often as well. Forgive me (or warn me) if I am crossing the line of personal attacks, but to me it hits home even more when he posts here and gets into arguments with others. For the most part, I think this site is not full of the same post game caller idiots he typically deals with and he shouldn't approach them as if they are. On occasion he beats his arguments to death and appears both stubborn and arrogant. I also have noticed far too many posters on here stroke him because he is a supposed radio personality and they give him a free pass when he is spewing the cliches. I know he can't be held responsible for the actions of fanboys, but they act as if he is really courageous for posting and getting flamed. Well, isn't that a risk we all take? A riskier approach would be if he stated that most of these "hated" players were put into a position to fail too often and that it is understandable when the fans take it out on the player, but the fans should realize the player is only trying to do the job asked of him by the manager. No, he won't ruffle feathers like that, but rather say dumb things like "Kotsay is not going to cost you the division...if the Sox lose the division, it will be because their pitching failed." That is what he actually posted in one topic here the other day and he got some level of praise for posting his opinions. It really burns me up! Again, sorry if this is construed as a personal attack, but if we can flame Hawk and Stone for sugar coating the Kotsay issue, then I think Rongey is fair game, too. Just the fact I doubt he's ever made a post that was not responded to by another poster is stroking. Most of us normal (non-celebrity type) posters have at least half our posts not responded to in any way. As far as being stubborn and arrogant I think that's the case with a lot Soxtalkers who know they have considerable knowledge and resources and aren't lazy about using them to make their points. So in that way he is no different than a many of us on here.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) f*** it. Throw Teahen on the waiver wire and be done with it. hell no Teahen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kotsay.
  11. I think you guys ride Coolman a little bit too hard. So he likes Hot Fire , there's no harm in that. I still like calling Tank Hollywood in the best Chris Berman tradition of nicknames. But I know it won't stick because Tank fits him much better . Lillibridge's swing on the triple reminded me a lot of Konerko's swing when he goes to right . It was short and sweet .
  12. What we have is a very young man who has continued to hit very well while playing sporadically against mostly lefties. I'm one of the 1st in line when he comes to using hyberbole when it comes to Tank. But we can be sure we'll see growing pains especially against righties, we'll see his K's increase . He won't walk so pitchers will throw him a lot more stuff off the plate. We'll see how he adjusts when he's not getting too many strikes to hit. I know we all want to see him playing more but so far the results point to Oz doing a good job picking and choosing who he faces. In the middle of chasing a division title OZ can't really play him too much at 3rd base so he needs to DH a lot more. Problem is with Teahen coming back soon it will cut into his chances to play even more. If only Oz or KW dumped Kotsay. There's really no reason to keep him when he can only play 1st and pitch hit. Then Teahen, Tank and Omar can all share 3rd and DH and I think we'll all feel better about the team going forward.
  13. Buch's been looking real good since he got back to Kannapolis.
  14. 1st Sox pitcher since Kip Wells in 1999 to win debut.
  15. Season high 14 over .500. Harrell with the beer shower on air.
  16. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Who's a power hitter with a shaky future contract situation that nobody has brought up in trade talks? Josh Hamilton .
