Sox versus Yankees July 30, 2009 game thread

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) I would prefer Getz in there, but after the offensive display we have shown in the past 7 games, I guess we might as well try anything Getz is in there since Alexei is injured. Nix at SS. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the obviously differences in TCQ's batting stance and approach. His stance and the way he is holding the bat and his upper body has turned very Pujols-like Looks like he's holding the bat the same to me. Top hand with the thumb pointed up which always struck me as odd since most hitters wrap the fingers and thumb around the bat. .

And that's a White Sox season.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) The pitching over all has been pretty damn solid. Id be willing to bet the pitching staff is in the top half in quality starts, blown saves (games that have not been blown) team ERA and even team WHIPand a few others key pitching stats. -

QUOTE (CQMVP @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) Ozzie really hasn't had anything to work with since '05. I mean, sure, he has his flaws, and gets outmanaged a bit, but come on. What can he do with PK, JD, JT, and AJ in the middle of the lineup year after year? There's nothing that can be done with these guys. They're not getting any younger or faster with half their lineup locked in place. You can add CQ to that this year, as well. He's just as one-dimensional as they right now, because of the foot injury. God, where would this team be without Pods coming from nowhere, and Beckham being a rookie phenom? The pitching over all has been pretty damn solid. -

QUOTE (CQMVP @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) The White Sox offensive rankings in the ML are: 29th in Doubles 26th in Triples 5th in HR, yet 14th in Runs 20th in BB 13th in SB 15th in BAVG The White Sox defensive rankings in the ML are: 27th in Fielding Percentage 25th in SB against 26th in Total Errors This team is not good enough to win the division, even a division as bad as the AL Central. They CANNOT play fundamental baseball to save their lives. This is basically the status quo since 2005. I'm about done watching them. They're just not a fun team to watch anymore. Ozzie must be a genius !! -

QUOTE (ChiSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) classic overreaction. it's just baseball. sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's not. that series was not fun outside of buehrle breaking a record. series like that happen in baseball. it's just how it is. let's just hope they can turn it around soon. if not, at least we can enjoy beckham tearing it up. serenity now. You.. you .. you...STOP MAKING SENSE !! -
Can't we be in both buy and sell mode?

QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) See I thought it was a dropped strike 3 also.. 1st base was occupied . You can't run to 1st with someone on it even if those runners advanced. -

There's a good reason right there to have Beckham bat earlier in the lineup. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) Well, we better start playing better baseball. We face two of the hottest teams in baseball over the next week, and if we continue to struggle to score more than 3 runs, we could easily find ourselves 6 or 7 games out. Earlier in the season we played well on the road and bad at home. I think that's starting to turn around and they will be better at home now based on the Tampa series. So we just hang tough and keep the faith on the road, hit a little bit better get a few more wins and do well at home we'll be within 5 games till the end. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) This isn’t the same kind of division back then. We’ll contend simply because this division is terrible. If we can get younger, by all means, get younger. Oh s***, Alexei. DAMN Contending is contending . I don't care how bad the division is a hot streak and you can be in 1st place easily. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) Double play. Hmmm, maybe you should have tagged when the ball was hit to the damn warning track, Alexei? Damn when the heats on a guy you get picked on for everything under the sun. 99% of major leaguers don't tag up from 1st on that Kotsay flyout. Ravenous pack of dogs we got here -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Couldn't agree more. Great then we can have another white flag debacle . Is something wrong with contending ? -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) You wanna crown him, then crown his ass! Gordon Beckham IS who we thought he was! And all you other guys making the crown his ass jokes gave me a good chuckle .

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) I'm sure that Rays fans were saying the same thing about Longoria last year. But that doesn't mean that he's going to be the next Ted Williams. I project that Beckham will be a lot more like Chase Utley, with maybe a little less power. That's really freaking good, but let's not get carried away here. You mentioned Frank Thomas twasnt I. I'll accept freaking good. I think he projects in his career years as 30-35 HR's.
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Let's not "crown his ass" as the next Frank Thomas just yet. I been watching players in MLB for 40 years. The things he does aren't just coincidence . His abilty to go with the pitch, yet turn on a pitch when needed or just hit one up the middle are phenomenal. He does whatever the situation calls for . He's made quick adjustments at every level .He's a team first kind of guy and those types don't come along very often . If that's "crowning his ass" so be it.
-
I can understand you not liking him there however he gets more AB's to do his thing and that can't be a bad thing. We'll all pitch a fit if Ozzie has him bunting that's for sure.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) Hell the Sox let Baker dominate them... so I expect the same tonight. So much pessimism ( not just by you , in general). I prefer to think every game is a new opportunity to kick ass, past results be damned ! -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) I think the rule is that you have to touch the ball in order for there to be an error called. There's no such rule , it's just up to the discretion of the official scorer, who, in this instance made a favorable call for the home team.
