  1. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) I know some south american countries have big asian populations. Peru had a recent president who I believe was a son of Japanese immigrants. Apparently a lot of Chinese immigrants went to Panama to build the canal when things weren't so good in China. His grandfather Changed his name to JOSE Chen.
  2. Interesting note on Chen . He's of Chinese descent but was born and raised in Panama as were his parents , so he speaks perfect Spanish.
  3. On 6/12 Beckham's BA was .071. In the next 9 games through 6/24 he went 8 for 32 (.250) raising his BA to .172 . On 6/25 after a 2 game mini-slump of 0 for 7, he was benched but scored the winning run in the 13 inning 6-5 win against the Dodgers. From 6/26 to 7/1 a span of 6 games he went 12 for 21 (.571) raising his BA to .278. In the last 3 games he's 8 for 11 (.727). Over the last 15 games in which he had an AB he's 20 for 53 for a .377 BA. The .383 avg in the thread title I got from CSN is off . My stats come directly from the box scores. In those 15 games the Sox are 10-2 when he has at least 1 hit and 1-2 in games he had 0 hits. Of course all this coincides with the recent brilliance of Danks, Floyd, and Contreras and Buerhles regular efficiency.
  4. We interrupt your regularly scheduled Sox thread for this sports bulletin The Chicago Blackhawks have signed 30 yr old Red Wings star Marion Hossa to a 12 year contract.
  5. QUOTE (ObamaKnowsBest @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) I think this thread has been misinterpreted as a Thome bashing. Not intended that way at all. No one else shocked when they saw Fields had more hits than Thome? Not me ,it's quality not quantity that counts and one helluva OBP.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) I just don't see the CQ equation that some of you see, how does: Mediocre to Average, then a little injury + Really Sucky, then major injury = Coming back and Mashing and Saving the offense? I'd almost say there's as big a chance him coming back would actually HURT the line-up. Especially if you have a bunch of guys clicking like Dye, Paulie, Becks, Ramirez et al. You stick Carlos back in and he strikes out or grounds into double plays killing innings and such. They just just shelve him for the season now, and hope against hope he can come back healthy in 2010. The team is doing okay with out him so far, and he wasn't exactly lighting up the world before his DL stint.... I don't think the majority of us see the equation you put. More like this one: Quentin> Anderson/Wise/Fields/Nix =a more potent possibly lethal offense.
  7. No flaming from me. I just don't think the Sox will make any major position changes this year. Right now we are what we are. Beckham will stay at 3rd, Dye in right and if Quentin can come back will play left with Pods moving to center. It will be interesting to see who gets moved when/if we get a healthy Q.
  8. I'll stick with my original prognosis in March or whenever the spring training prediction thread was ; Sox win the division (so far I think I've been as accurate in that thread as anyone)
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 04:34 AM) I think a lot of people are setting themselves up for a big disappointment if they think CQ is going to step right back in and dominate. Frankly I expect him to have a rehab assignment down in the minors if that's possible then contribute not as strong as last year but still strong nevertheless. Imagine if he stays healthy what he can do in October/November.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:10 AM) I have a feeling this thread is going to blow up. I also see this team making the playoffs. The major league roster has good depth up and down, the middle of the lineup is good, the rotation is, as far as I'm concerned, as good as any in the AL Central, the bullpen has been outstanding, and Quentin may come back. And I think if the opportunity arises, Williams will trade for either a 2Bman or 3Bman, manning Beckham at the other spot. I could easily see the Sox 5 games over .500 at the break, and possibly more. The hardest series is going to be in Minnesota, right before the break. I'm with you. The only thing not clicking for the Sox lately is the defense and they've overcome 3 and 4 errors games to win. The pitching has really been phenomenal. The hitting has come around nicely, the bench and bottom of the order are contributing. With Quentin's return I don't think KW has to make any moves. Now if he wants a starting pitcher to win another World Series this year while giving up part of the future., I can see that happening. But the Sox have to be in a better position than they are now before he pulls the trigger.
  11. Update this thread to say last 15 games he's hitting .383, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored.
  12. And Beckham with the living room standing ovation after the K.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Long term, if Clayton can't pitch more than 5 innings, he can't be a starter. It seems he always tires around the 5th outside those two good starts he had. As long as we give him 9 runs of support, I guess he should be fine. Patience is a virtue especially with young pitchers. Give him time. He's shows plenty of promise ,certainly better than Floyd was with the Phillies and look at Floyd now.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) Clayton again with the middle inning implosion. Doesn't matter much when you're up 9-1 and just wanting to beat the rain.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) And thank you also.
  16. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) it was on the sox homepage after beckham's game winner. Thanks.
  17. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) imagine this team if getz/becks/fields all catch fire... why oh why can't lexi move to center? not really asking because i know it's been debated ad nauseum... just musing to myself. Your avatar pic is incredible. Where did you find it ? I want the full size version .
