QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) It'd be great to see Allen up with the big club, and see what he can do.... I think so too. I hate giving up on the season so early and I really won't until we're like15 games out in the middle of July. Then I'd expect to see Allen , Danks and whoever else the Sox want to call up.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) Just don't strap it on. I'll leave that to you lovefest guys in the Konerko's thumb thread. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Yep and it really is a great situation since Viciedo is quite the talent. That said he's gotten better and better each month in Bham and I fully believe we'll see him up in September to get a cup of coffee. He is going to be an incredible hitter, the only thing that might prevent him from being a perennial all star might be his lack of plate discipline, but the guy flat out can rake and uses all fields. He's going to be a special one. I love Viciedo. Still looks like we have too many 1B/ DH types unless we see big improvements from guys like Viciedo and Flowers with the gloves. Right now Viciedo's D is atrocious . But if he learns to be more selective at the dish he will be a monster.

I've learned over the years you just have to let the losing go. Every year you will eventually be disappointed if the goal is to win a World Series. So sit back ,relax , and strap it down. And when we lose get up ,unstrap it, take a deep breath and go spend time with the wife , kids, g/f ,or bff and realize what's really important in life. -
SI: MLB Team by Team Draft Rankings Past 10 Years
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to gsoxs1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (gsoxs1 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) Wow. Reading this makes me depressed about how bad our team has drafted over the years. Are biggest steal was Matt Guerrier(10th round in 99). I don't remmember him being that good. Current Key players Fields, Getz, and Richard. Verdict is still out on all 3, but seems like Fields might be on his way out. Link http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writ...tml?eref=sihpT1 The farm system's taken a lot of heat of the last 10 years but really its a crapshoot. The bottom 15 teams could all have been interchangeable and the Sox have produced more major leaguers then a lot of teams who are ahead of them .Also have done wll trading minor leaguers who never made it for established players. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) The Sox have options no doubt as far as trades, but trades will be made to improve now and not as a fire sale for prospects who might be years away. It's beginnig to be like a broken record with some: trade Dye, Trade Konerko, trade Jenks, etc. You don't trade the guys who are producing if you are contending for a pennant and anyone who doesn't think we can contend just ain't looking at the standings. All we need to be concerned about at this time is the AL Central where we are in a situation to contend. We win and we are in the playoofs and anything can happen. Hopefuly we do that and are playing like we should be when playoff time is here Again agreed. Making the playoffs means extra revenue and contending means more paying customers. If KW can improve the team this year and beyond by acquiring another pitcher or bat he will.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) They could move Jenks for a ton of value with Thornton moving to the pen though. That might be a major possibility, especially if he could use Jenks to get a young ace or use Jenks to get a really good looking outfielder/bat. Agreed but that all depends on how Poreda and Richard perform in their roles w/e they might be. I can see Jenks , Dotel or Linebrink moved then.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) He's certainly not going to pull the plug now. I agree . He tried to get Peavy and ungraded at catcher very recently showing that he wants to contend. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn't paying attention.(Cowley)
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) Please burn this thread. We're 4.5 out in June and we've been without our best player. 100% agreed. Cowley knows nothing. It's just idle speculation using the dreaded "firesale" word to grab attention. If Poreda as a starter does well and Richard out of the pen (or vice versa) then we have the room to move a reliever. No important pieces will be moved shortly unless you consider Wise / Gobble being demoted or released or Colon to the DL a firesale.
-
Firesale my arse. KW always wants to content. Crap record means crap attendance. The dead weight will be gone soon. That's about it. Because the division is bad the Sox have a little room to experiment with the youth. If it pans out great we have a better chance to win the division. If it doesn't then we're no worse off than we are right now.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) What was Ozzie's quote to the media yesterday? "Good teams win games. Horse**** teams have meetings. Well, we're to the point where we're going to have a lot of meetings." My guess is Ozzie doesn't want to play the kids and wants to keep Wise and Kenny said the kids are going to play and Wise is gone. Also from a marketing standpoint saying the team is horses**** isn't likely to put butts in the seats.
-
Colon will be DL'ed . Contreras will take his place. At this point the Sox are desperate, searching for answers hoping to catch lightning in a bottle so I think Poreda will be starting and Richard will replace Gobble in the pen where he had success during the playoffs last year. Fields is as good as gone. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Jenks or Dotel moved also. Wise too ,gone as soon as Quentin comes back.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:25 AM) Now sign him to a one-day contract and let him retire with the franchise he belongs with... take a cue from the Blackhawks and repair that relationship. Does Kenny Williams have to die like old man Wirtz did for that to happen ?

JOSE ! ALEXEI ! JERMAINE ! BIG JIM ! -
Beckhmmm , Bacon bits, Slain, Ofer Beckham, Beckhype

That prediction was based on the fact I didn't think Fields would cut it at 3rd defensively and I'm pretty sure I said somewhere that Fields would end up playing 1st base eventually and in my mind Beckham was ahead of Viciedo.

Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) 3-0 on the Campbell goal here in the 2nd period. Hawks making the best of their power play opportunities. Buff is playing awesome right now. Gotta give a lot of credit to Pauhlson for that.
