I don't mind the all righty lineup thought it was curious timing , but thats why they play the games. Gonna need contributions from everyone. It's a long season. Is that enough cliches for everyone ?

Joe Crede video tribute from last night?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Crede was like the Sox rock star with his grungy good looks but quiet demeanor. Any player who spent nine yrs with the Sox with as many good moments as he had derserves the love. -
Sox-Royals on WGN Tonight - 7:11pm CDT
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to elrockinMT's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Ozzie is in giveaway outs mode .Why bunt in the 3rd inning with 1 out when he already has a decent matchup ? Sac bunt don't work, lets try stealing unsuccessfully. -
I still have a Sports Illustrated from that event. I think it was the Chicago Daily News the next day had a series of color photos of the swing so you can cut them out , put them on index cards and flip through them to recreate it as a a mini highlight reel. I still have every single one of those index cards that I so meticulously glued the photos. Here's an article from TSN on the 25th anniversary of setting the record. http://www.sportingnews.com/archives/aaron/152544.html

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Hope so, I don't know who might be the other outfielders except John Shelby III. So, it's possible he could play LF if not 3B. Although I think Retherford and Viciedo will rotate between 3B and DH. I would hope Viciedo doesnt play any DH . The Sox have enough of those types already. The Sox need to put him at 3rd and keep him there or an outfield position.

Either way I'd miss it unless I ditch work which ain't gonna happen.

The Official Bring Back Scotty Pods Thread
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) I'd bring Pods back and send him to the minors in case Wise doesn't succeed. Pods > Owens. If Pods can't land with a major league team, the Sox would make sense due to the unsettled CF and leadoff hitter situation. Besides, he's a legacy, we gotta let him in. We'll call him Flounder. Hey. another quote from Animal House besides "was it over when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor." I like it ! As far as Pods goes... THAT. SHIP. HAS. SAILED. -
Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) I think too many people are putting the White Sox defense under the microscope way too much. Chill out. I'm more than willing to cheer for Wise as the lead-off hitter, and I think he's the type of hitter we need. People need to stop expecting the Sox to get some Gold Glove caliber guy in Center Field. People may argue that Brian Anderson has a Gold Glove caliber glove, but I rather sacrifice defense for the offensive tools of Wise. Also, I think our lineup is more than capable of compensating for our defense. C'mon. We got God, Dye, Thome, Alexei, and we should have a bounce-back year from Konerko, a big year from Fields, and another speedster in Getz. That's 7 guys right there, throw in the consistent production from AJ and the extra speed element from Wise, then I think we have the makings of a fun team to watch. Be optimistic, everyone, and stop being a bunch of bellyaching wet blankets. I actually think it's about time we hear more about defense. All most of us usually care about is pitching and hitting. Where on this team do we have a known quality defender among the starters ? Tampa Bay went from worst to first in 2008 in defensive efficiency. It's no coincidence the won the pennant. -
Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) It's still going to come down to pitching. Bonderman, Willis, Mauer and Hafner are either injured or ineffective, that gives us a huge leg up...if we would have just come out of ST w How good can the pitching be if the defense is bad ? ERA's and WHIPS increase from plays not made that aren't errors. Floyd's ERA was pretty good last year but he gave up a ton of unearned runs often once that 3rd out wasn't caught. -
Guillen: Sox not going outside org. for CF

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) Damn it. My sentiments exactly. Darrow is a righthanded sidearmer who throws in the low 90's but was in A and AA last year. Doesn't seem like a lot to give up Anderson since he was out of options. Comparing Wise and Anderson: Both are lefty. Anderson is faster , a better gloveman, better OBP , better bunter , just as much power, steals more, and younger by 5 years than Wise. Looks like an improvement to me though we constantly hear KW tell us that there's nothing better out there. -
Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) And yet the only information we have on this is from Cowley and Gonzalez. It makes me mad that we probably coulda had Josh Anderson from ATL for someone like McD This is who Detroit gave up for Anderson from the Tigers website on the trade. The right-handed Darrow opened Spring Training with the Tigers as a non-roster invitee before being sent to Minor League camp on March 11. The 25-year-old sidearmer split last year between Class A West Michigan and Double-A Erie, but wasn't a key cog amid the newfound relief depth in the Tigers' farm system. If Atlanta didnt want Mac because of salary looks like Egbert , Broadway , Russell, Wasserman or any number of guys would have been enough to snag Josh Anderson. Anderson is younger, faster, steals more bases and plays a much better CF than Wise. How we let Detroit get him to play backup to Granderson is beyond me. I'm irked. -
I want the midget that's tallest.

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think Wise will be in there against lefties no matter what anyone says. BA had 4 or 5 outfield assists this spring. How many did Wise have ? It's particularly annoying that Ozzie . who was known for his defense , can absolutely ignore defense on a team filled with average and below average defenders, especially in the outfield where potential outs will be turned into extra base hits. No matter who plays CF they should be batting 9th.
