Hmmmm. I pay extra on DirecTV to get Comcast and I've had MLB Extra Innings for years. I'm perplexed as to why the show on airing now CSN , White Sox Spring Training in Depth would be blacked out here in California.

QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) Weird. The other games this spring have been live... What sucks as well, is that the Red Sox/Marlins ST game that's supposed to be on MLB Network right now is in a rain delay, and since the Red Sox are the most important and popular team in the USA I'm afraid if it comes out of the delay they'll continue airing it and not the White Sox game until later. Your welcome to come to Pasadena and watch it.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) I'm surprised one name's on the DP's avoided list, but more surprised at the name on the all-time list...I mean, I know he does it alot. But not enough to be on an all-time list. Good to know when Thome is out of the lineup and you need a pinch hitter with men on base.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 04:48 AM) anyone know what time it airs? 8:30 PM ET http://mlb.mlb.com/network/schedule/ amazing what you can find on a computer

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) I thought this was hilarious and this thread needs a return. I tried embedding, but that gave me a headache. What do you have to do other than copy/paste the code on youtube? Edit: Thanks Tex. As a big fan of 80's rock . This is classic !

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) She's acting royalty in the UK (sister of Joely and daughter of Vanessa Redgrave). Really sad story considering she was awake an hour after the fall, and then started feeling woozy and then went unconscious apparently, and Liam Neeson is one of my favourite actors too. Reminds me of why the NHL put up the netting behind the goals. The 13 yr. old girl who got hit by a puck and died was admitted to a hospital , sent home and was later re-admitted before she died IIRC. Brittanie Cecil was her name and she would have been 21 March 18th. Tribute video to her on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On8Ldrly7qM -
3rd annual Soxtalk softball game thread

Damn I envy everyone who will play. I was playing in a 12 inch slow pitch unlimited arc league in California the last couple years starting at 1st base through my 49/50th b-day until I was diagnosed with RA, had to quit but now its under control and I'm itching to play again. The composite bats they make today for 12 inch are unbelievable . You can hit the ball farther than you could in your prime with an aluminum or wood bat. It's been a while since I knocked around a 16 inch Clincher but if I could hit a 12 inch getting tossed 25-30 ft high I could hit a 16 inch lobbed up there easy. -

Edmonton wins in a shootout . Toews and Kane both missed , 2 Edmonton shooters O'Sullivan and Kotalik both scored at the UC. Hawks bad streak continues. -

Hawks in a wild one with Edmonton. Down 1-0 tied it. Down 2-1 tied it. Down 3-2 tied it. Down 4-3 tied it on a goal by Havlat who was being tripped at the time. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 06:15 AM) My goal: Skate faster than any other defenseman in the league. FAIL. Even when you start off a stride and a half ahead on the GW goal. I've seen a lot of bad things by Campell however on that goal he was gassed , at the end of a shift. Seeing Vermette do so much is pissing me off too. -

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) I got to see him at Round Rock, Houston's AAA affliate, and he was, by far, the best player on that team. Then again, that team wasn't very good. But the fans treated him the way they treated Chris Burke, who's a 9.5 on the Grindy Scale. TTFWIW How good of a fielder is Josh Anderson? I hear he's right up there with BA as a fielder . -

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Someone on here kept suggesting Gregor Blanco before, but I thought that to be pretty unlikely. I just checked the Braves site though, and Schaffer is killing the ball in ST. Of course it's just ST, but Schaffer is legitimately in the CF mix there and could get the starting job. I don't know how wise it would be for the Braves to trade a player like Blanco and count on a rookie, especially when you've got Francouer and Garrett Anderson/Matt Diaz around him, but if there's any chance I'd love that. But, I still think that would be unlikely because it's not out of the realm of possibility that Garrett Anderson gets hurt, Schaffer struggles as a rookie, and Francouer continues to play like a bust. With Gorkys and Heyward far away, and with Brandon Jones being a sucky player, they'd risk trading all their depth. Plus Blanco wouldn't come cheap at all if he even were to be put on the block. There's not a whole lot out there and I'd rather stick with Anderson if we're not going to come up with a real solution. The lead-off issue is going to be a much bigger problem to figure out in ST than it will be during the regular season, because if whoever is in that spot is not hitting when it matters, the Sox will put somebody else in that role regardless of that player's best spot in the order. The Sox would probably rather call up The Pussy Slayer and throw him in CF than let Jerry Oh No!wens hit .150 for a month at the top of the lineup. My guess would be Getz getting the nod though. Ahh but you forgot about a guy who might be better than Blanco with the Braves and its not Schafer. It's Josh Anderson who is out of options. He was drafted in the 4th round of the 2003 draft. BA was a 1st rounder in the same draft. He has a .344 OBP in almost 3000 minor MiL AB. BA had a .364 OBP in 1136 MiL AB. Josh A. in 2 abbreviated seasons with Houston and Atlanta has a .315 BA and a .364 OBP with 14 XBH in 203 AB. In the last 4 seasons in the minors Josh A. has 175 SB averaging near 44 a yr. I read he's a better fielder than Blanco and over all is considered a good fielder. Don't know if he's available but he's fast, can field and can hit which makes him better than Wise, Owens, and Blanco (another slap hitter , not the best fielder type). He's basically the same height , weight and age as BA except faster , bats LH and slightly less power. He might be slated to be the starting CF with the Braves but Blanco got the majority of the PT last year and Schafer is very close to being ready. Would be cool seeing the Sox with Josh and Brian Anderson. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Saw that artcile this morning, kind of irritates me. Headline says Anderson and Fields under consideration for leadoff, right? Yet, look at the actual quotes. Guillen has said that Getz is, but has NOT said Fields or Anderson. Looks like those two names are conjecture on the writer's part. The same thing in the Sun-times http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/1486...eluca20.article Said it was discussed in a meeting. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Also wanted to throw in here that someone in today's game thread hear Ozzie mention that Getz is now being considered for the leadoff spot. That would be moi and its right here. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,0,323351.story Under leadoff woes in the paragraph starting with the words Jerry Owens..

Fastball right down the pipe doesnt look promising .

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) Maybe he should try it in a game. Not that it really means anything. But get him prepared. Owens and Wise are not good, even if they hit .800 the rest of the spring. The only other problem with Getz as a leadoff hitter is what to do with Beckham when he's ready in a couple of months. Maybe moving Ramirez to CF would be the answer. I first I saw anything about him considering it is in the online trib in the article about Vicedo being sent down. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,0,323351.story

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) I heard from a pretty good source that when today's lineups were posted and Chris Getz saw his name in the 2 hole he immediately vomited all over himself and collapsed into the fetal position. Word is he's supposed to miss about a week with an ulcer. I did that too in empathy for him since leadoff and #2 are so pressure filled. -

QUOTE (Cowch @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) Kendrick is sure having a nice spring. I am going to watch, but ignore Lillibridge's ABs. I cannot stand watching him bat. I wish Lillibridge would choke up on the bat and just try to make contact. When you're a middle infielder with little power K'ing as much as he does is just not acceptable.
