Angels vs White Sox - 7:11PM Start
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to nitetrain8601's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I like it. The whole time though I really thought he was going to hit his hand with the bat or something. Ha good one. But as you saw it's more of an optimistic way to look at things. -

I love this commercial. I don't know if it's shown in Chicago or not but if you watch it keep it in mind for the Sox playoff drive without CQ . http://forbetterlife.org/be-inspired/tv.asp?id=3204 -
I actually laughed when reading this quote from Guillen when he was talking about Josh Fields . ''Unfortunately for him, his manager believes in defense. Defense is a big part of baseball, and people don't realize that. ''If you play good defense, your pitching staff will be better. I don't know who came up with the idea [that] your offense is going to win. Not in the American League. If you don't catch the ball in this league, I don't care how good your offense is, it will catch up to you.'' There's just no justifcation for playing Griffey in center if Guillen truly believes what he's quoted as saying here and this was before we learned of Quentins injury. Now if we see the weak hitting/fielding Owens in CF ahead of BA I hope someone throws this quote in his face.

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The official word is Q fouled off a pitch from Cliff Lee , wasn't happy he fouled it off and did what he always does : holding the bat in his left hand he basically punches the sweet spot of the bat with his right hand. I saw the exact replay and I didn't notice if it was palm open or closed fist but he probably missed the part of his hand he wanted to hit the bat with coming too close to the wrist. The surgery is the fastest way they can deal with the injury and leaves open the option of returning for the postseason if everything falls into place . Heal well and quickly Q and "GO SOX" . Start off the homestand on the right foot and kick some rookie pitcher ass tonight. -
Glass half empty or full; Pessimism/Optimism?

We will be ahead by 1 game going into the last game of the season. Will win the division by 2 games. -
Yea and good to see #14 too.

I'm guessing here but he had 99 rbi's for a few games then got 100 and hasn't had an rbi since. That makes 1 rbi in his last 6 or 7 games. So he had to be hurting. Need him healthy for the home stand where we need to win 7/10 minimum.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) Exactly my thoughts. He's not good. I hope KW just cuts him so Ozzie stops using him. I wish we had Timo Perez because at least he didn't suck this much. No chance of KW cutting him at all. I'm sure KW was in on the discussion about who to bring up. -

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) what the hell is up with the sox offense?they look lethargic You don't get runs, you look lethargic, you score and you look fine. 4-0 -
QUOTE (Disco72 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) So, Jerry Owens couldn't even get a hit in a simulated game? See, Ozzie doesn't hate BA. He got into a simulated game.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:57 AM) Cabrera really seems to be in the middle of most of the dugout celebrations. I'm not sure how you can knock him for not being a "team guy", even with the scorer and Dye bulls*** from earlier in the year. He's a mercenary sure, but he's also playing a valuable role as a great defensive shortstop with acceptable offense on a team in the middle of a pennant race. There are plenty of guys looking to get paid in MLB, I don't blame O-Cab for looking to lock up one more big contract before he enters serious decline. As long as it doesn't affect him on the field I have no problems with it. I can't imagine where the team would be with Uribe at SS, especially after Crede went down yet again, that would have led to serious depth problems. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate his contributions to the team, but I don't love the guy. We've all heard about his feud with Renteria, calling the official scorer, slobbering over Scioscia and his shouting match with JD. Everything points to him being a "me" first kind of guy. Add to that the accusations of avoiding contact with runners and the hard hit balls(can't get hurt , would hurt the bottom line) and you basically have a guy who is saying "I'm good enough to make solid contributions to a winning team without risking my neck. I'm not going to get hurt and ruin my next big payday." When a guy just looks like he's not a 100% balls to the wall kind of guy you are not going to be beloved.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) This may be wishful thinking, but: Sox 93-69 Twins 91-71 This is how I see it also. Twins and Sox will have identical records the rest of the way. 17-13.

OC has made it pretty clear from the beginning that he wants to test free agency. Very hard to love a mercenary though he's a decent player.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 06:15 AM) Is it time to bring back the pre-season prediction thread? I think we have already surpassed the victory total that some of the more pessimistic posters predicted. No need to bring it back with me. I know I predicted .500 and thats if a few of the youngsters came through. Wth Danks and Floyd pitching great and Quentin and Alexei hitting lights out. This season has been a really nice surprise. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) I'm surprised it turned out this way too, I figured he wouldn't make the list. Never underestimate the power of a true Cub Killer. Jose Valetine and his pornstache will be higher.

QUOTE (oralsoxpodcast @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) Lets win FOUR in MD. I meant 2 on Monday but anyway I went to your website and saw the AJ parody and listened to your Sox report. I'll check your site out more after work today. Keep up the good work.
