QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 05:54 AM) In the summer of 77, I was going into the 6th grade and it was the 1st summer I had ever gotten excited about the SOX. Zisk, Gamble and Soderholm really set the Scoreboard off that summer Not to mention Jim Spencer had 2 games about a week apart with 8 rbi's in each game . The start of Nancy Faust playing "Na na na na Hey hey hey goodbye " and the many curtain calls after homeruns. The fans were electrified even more so it seems than the 2005 season.

In the original Thome injury thread , I said he'd go on the 15 day DL and Williams wouldn't go outside the organization citing the Toby Hall example. I heard the Sweeney news on Comcast.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) You honestly believe Thome will be fine after two weeks? Yes, why do u have reason to belive otherwise besides pessimism ?

I had graduated high school the year before and had not yet found the route to California. So for those of you who weren't even born yet click the link and learn a bit of recent Sox history and for those of you who remember it feel free to leave your thoughts and observations on that season . http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws

The Buerhle card is currently at $126.51 and has less then 7 hrs to bid on it. Good luck ! Here's the link ... http://auction.mlb.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/...mp;noMoreSubs=Y

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) I saw Dante Bichette hit for the cycle, live and in person. The guy isn't exactly fast, and I don't even remember much about it, but I remember it happened. Alphonse Dante Bichette hit for the cycle June 10, 1998 in Coors field against the Texas Rangers which the Rockies lost 9-8.. Was a 5 tool player, whose best years were with the Rockies . No doubt benefitted greatly from the Coors Field effect. Had a great arm. Led the league in HR's , RBI's and hits on separate occasions and was a 30/30 guy somewhere around his prime. Finished 2nd in MVP voting in 1995. Here's a box score of the cycle game. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores...id=199806100COL I found the baseball card commemorating the Dante Bichette Cycle. Its from Score, Card #TC9 (The Cycle) . Was a special insert card not sure of the year maybe 1999 or 2000. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) So....I was thinking about who we could acquire to play DH against RHP if Thome is out for a month or two, and one name comes to mind as a very possible candidate: a .354 batting average with a .956 OPS in AAA. He has two WS rings. He's none other than Timo Perez. C'mon Timo ! C'mon Timo ! C'mon Timo !!

Just guessing based on my own experience with a rib injury from swinging a bat. Usually its the lowest rib on the side of the rib cage that faces the pitcher when you're batting. Depending on how badly u tweaked it a stint on the 15 day DL is not out of the question. He'll probably be fine after that. Personally I doubt we'll go hunting for a replacement . Williams didnt do it for Toby Hall and I doubt he does it with Thome. Citron will get more PT. He has options on bringing up any number of players from the minors who would get very little playing time if its only a 15 day injury. Still doesn't look like JD will bat 3rd like many of us prefer . Looks as though Konerko will bat 3rd and Dye 4th. I also have a sneaking suspicion it just might be his back instead of the rib.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Not if he gets CSN. All Sox games will be blacked out on Extra Innings. I don't know how it is in Champaign but I get Comcast and MLB extra innings here in california and I just get the feeds from the opposing team while Comcast is blacked out. -
Hey whats more important a Sox winner or Erstad doing good again? Without Erstad sucking no one wants to say anything positive ??? 6 responses in the winners thread is crapola around an hour after the game ended.

Pay for the MLB extra innings on DirecTV . That will solve all your problems. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) Is .223 excuseable because they've faced good pitchers? Maybe , if it isn't I'm sure you'll tell me. If the pitching holds up , who knows , maybe we'll be the hitless wonders again. Should be a fun season. Loosen up a bit.

QUOTE(Wealz @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) If you want to construct a team of line drive hitters that's one thing, but to expect this Sox team to become that is folly. That's not they way they were built. By the way off the top of my head, the Sox have faced Sabathia twice, Santanna, Harden, Verlander Millwood, and Robertson so far this season. That's pretty tough and that they are where they are so far is a pretty good sign, imo. How dare you look at the bright side of things ! You sir are a kool-aid drinking rose colored glasses fool ! Damn your optimism to hell ! Is green really necessary here ?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) Who cares about his base running skills if he doesn't get on base? This team has more than enough leadership. We need less bad baseball players in order to be successful. So an expert talent evaluator such as yourself only needs 16 games to know Erstad won't hit .275 for the whole season ? QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) I believe a common misconception among baseball fans is a general manager and manager have to be considered "experts" since, after all, they do hold a valuable baseball position. Williams? I would consider him an expert. Guillen? Not so much. I'm convinced half this board could make gut decisions and hold grudges against younger players. I have to agree with you there. Especially the part about half the board. They might be no better than Guillen when it comes to having favorite players and be just as stubborn about who they play and why. But Guillen really is an expert because of his insight on what makes a good major league player. He's been there done that. None of us have and as in most things in life you are more valuable with experience. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) ...and we wouldn't have posters like yourself make excuses for players sucking ass. Is Ozzie trying to trigger's Grinderstad's 2008 $6 million option before the waiver deadline? Is every player in baseball a superstar or did I miss something ? As with most of the posters who support Erstad (and there are way more then the louder more obnoxious ones might have u think) we just support the team as a whole and try to leave the managing and general managing to the experts of which you are not one. -

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) It's too early to be bashing our players and manager. Let's wait till September. Waiting doesnt play well around here. But you've been around long enough to know that. There are always the know-it-all, stat head , fantasy baseball geeks who think they know every facet of a game most of them have never played and wouldnt know a good team player, bad defense, or the difference between good n bad baserunning, or leadership if it jumped up and bit them on the ass. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) When was the last time Erstad hit 40 homers or put up an OPS of .900+? I can think of 3 guys in the lineup that have done that within the past 2 years. When was the last time he had an .800 OPS? I can think of about 3 others that did that last year. And since when is he signed to a long-term deal? That would make it a little easier to cut him loose, wouldn't it? I just hope for the good of the organization, we can all end this entire debate and get a real CFer because Erstad is ridiculous, 3 for 5 today or not. Wow u can think of players that hit more HR's and have a higher OPS then Estad in our lineup. Thats really deep thinking on your part. Maybe if we had a whole team of guys like that we wouldn't lose a single game and have to listen to u b**** n whine. -
