  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) Phil Nevin is worthless. He was a bad player, playing on a bad team. He was picked up about 5 weeks too late to help the cubs, it was a pointless move when it happened to the cubs, now the Twins make the same move. This is also a team that decided to start Tony Bautista at 3rd this year. The Nefi Perez move is the equivalent of someone picking up Timo Perez, and then worrying that it will affect the AL Central race. The more Neifi bats, the better for us. These moves dont do a thing positive for either team. Phil Nevin Since being acquired by the Cubs vs. righthanded pithchers : AB H HR Avg. 110 20 8 .318 Post All-Star Break stats against RH pitchers AB H HR Avg. 57 20 5 .351 Certainly not worthless. Neifi Perez with the Tigers 9 games at 2B and SS 0 errors 77 innings 53 total chances. Hasn't hurt them yet in the field.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) You know what, I agree. A person saying that there's a conspiracy going on from the Tribune execs against the White Sox, by noting a Neifi Perez and Phil Nevin (hah) trade, is totally, 100% correct. If Cerb didn't make his initial post, I probably would have done the exact same thing. This thread is ludicrous, and deservedly got ripped. As usual the reading comprehension level of the people here amazes me. Where exactly did I state that it was my opinion that it was a conspiracy? I simply asked a question . Coincidence or conspiracy ? As i said before disagree ,call the post ridiculous, but personal insults have no place in any discussion no matter how ludicrous the topic . Those in charge of this board have stated that many times.
  3. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) Well, you're not going to get an apology, and I stand by my previous post. Come on, stand back and look at everything from a non tinfoil POV. Do you honestly think that the Tribune board of execs was camped up in their board room smoking cigars saying A: Guys, the Cubs once again are done, but I've got an ingenious plan for them not to be considered the equivalent of a little league team from Russia. B: Fire Dusty Baker? A: No, let's start trading players to help Detroit and Minnesota and defeat the White Sox. B: Sounds almost brilliant! So we trade Zambrano and Ramirez for top flight prospects? A: No! We give them Neifi Perez and Phil Nevin! Phil Nevin and Neifi f***ing Perez? Do you know how abysmal those two players are, especially Perez? Neifi Perez is still the same moron who attempted a bunt in the bottom of the 9th down two with two outs and two RISP. Phil Nevin stopped doing steroids a long time ago. Hendry is just unloading his mistakes on other teams gullible enough to believe that Perez and Nevin are still productive players. I didnt really think I'd get one even though you insulted me without provocation. Perez and Nevin are roleplayers who filled roles for the teams we are fighting tooth and nail against to make the playoffs. Imagine this scenario if you will. The race for the wildcard comes down to the season ending series against the Twins and Nevin gets key RBI's to help the Twins clinch the wildcard. Certainly that is a possibility and if it happens I'm pretty sure this board will be wailing and gnashing their collective teeth about how the Cubs screwed us.
  4. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) Quite possibly the worst thread ever at SoxTalk, and that's saying a lot from all the crap we've seen. Stop posting until your brain starts functioning. Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed. What happened to the kinder gentler soxtalk ? Its posts like yours that discourage people to open new topics. I see the same topics every day rehashed over and over. There's only so many ways to express why JD should or shouldn't be batting 3rd or how bad Pods is playing. We're here to discuss events surrounding and effecting the Sox. Whether I think Hendry is helping or hurting our rivals is of no consequence. It happens once with Perez you forget it. It happens twice with Nevin ( 21 HR and 64 RBI combined with 2 teams this season) and it becomes something worth discussing. I object to the insulting nature of your post. If you feel the need to berate the post that is acceptable. Questioning my brain function is not and I am owed an apology. Your post did nothing to contribute to the discussion.
  5. First its Neifi Perez to the Tigers when Placido Polanco went down with an injury . Now its Phil Nevin to the Twins. Is this the Tribune Co. trying to protect its investment by sabotaging the Sox chances by sending players to our rivals to make the playoffs?
  6. Theres been talk on PTI and on ESPN in general speculating the Sox hit Delmon Young in his first ML AB as a welcome to the big leagues hazing . Also that Ozzie could have had it done to get on the umpires good side. If you remember earlier in the year Delmon Young was the one who hit the umpire with a thrown bat while in the minors. Thoughts ? Comments ? Old time baseball ? Accident? Is Ozzie that devious ?
  7. I'm not going to analyze pitching matchups, upcoming schedule or injuries. I'm a Sox fan and have been conditioned to hope with my heart and not think with my head. 20-12 sounds good. Illogical ? Yes. Improbable ? Yes. Impossible ? No f'in way ! Sox win the wildcard and the World Series.
  8. QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) And the team's ERA is higher because OZZIE decided not to let McCarthy start. So you looked into your crystal ball and saw BMac with a 14-2 record and 1.00 ERA ? I havent done the math but thats probably about what it would take for the ERA of the whole staff to be .50 lower and have the whole team at 85 wins. And yes I know you're not the one who stated the .50 ERA/85 wins but you did say if MCarthy was starting the team ERA would be lower. If that crystal ball is still working can you give me some California lottery winning numbers ?
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) Lets see..if Oakland, Detroit, Minnesota, and NYY make it to the playoffs this year I won't even watch it. The only team I will even remotely root for is Minnesota. The rest of those teams make me sick. I'd have to root for Oakland just to see Big Frank get some AB's in the World Series . He's been kicking sum serious butt for the last few months .
  10. Dye 3rd .Thome 4th against righties, 5th against lefties, Konerko 4th against lefties, 5th against righties . Switch Crede and AJ the same way in the 6 and 7 spot.
  11. Anybody wanna gimme an email and password for MLB tv or radio on the net so i can see or at least hear this game ? Feel free to pm it to me .
  12. I'm pretty pissed about no telecast on DirectV today also. After a hard day at work I was really looking forward to seeing the game tonight.
  13. As good as the Sox bench is, I'd have to say I like the Angels better with the speed of Figgins and the power of Quinlan and Salmon.
  14. That pitch from Rivera to Thome in the 7-6 loss drifted right down the middle. When I saw the location and Thome about to swing I was all ready to yell my head off. I couldn't belive he beat it into the ground. I'd say nagging injuries must be slowing him down a bit. The Thome of April and May would have driven that low but right fown the middle pitch a long way.
  15. JD has just been unbelievable . I remember last year there were so many Dye bashers when he got off to the bad start, calling him "Dead." There is always so much negativty and player bashing that it keeps me from posting all that often. If it wasn't Dye it was Crede (Cruddy), Garland (Judy), Cotts, Thornton etc. and so many more. I also realize that without criticism there would ,effectively, be nothing to talk about. As a long time Sox fan I've learned to just enjoy watching my favorite team and know that there are players who are better than others and bashing them won't make them any better. One of my favorite players as a kid was CF Ken Berry and he couldn't hit a lick. But I'll always remember a highlight channel 32 used to run in a commercial with Ken Berry jumping up to attempt a catch on a ball over the centerfield fence. He actually jumped up and over the centerfield fence like a fosberry flop when doing a high jump. Still don't know if he caught it and would love to see it again. But if the effort's there a player ranks high in my book no matter what the results.
  16. It seems more likely that the offense is capable of scoring more runs with tweaks to the lineup against righties and lefties than the pitching staff is capable of returning to the kind of success they had last year. The pitching staff is tired. I have seen no mention of the World Baseball Classic or the extra innings the pitching staff absorbed last year through the playoffs in this thread. Balta's idea is sound. Dye is certainly a classic #3 hitter (power, avg., speed), Konerko could bat 4th against lefties and Thome against righties. Same with Pyrzynski and Crede. Flip-flop them in the lineup depending on the lefty/righty matchup. Even getting Iguchi out of the 2 hole might be reasonable against lefties. Our hitters are having good years . It's time to maximize their strengths. The pitching staff is now what it is. Buerhle returning to form is really the only thing we can reasonably expect from the pitching staff because he has had a history of success.
  17. QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) Why flip Soriano? If we can sign him, why flip him? We are going to draw more fans than ever this season, why wouldn't we sign him. Soriano is one of those players that are coveted. While his defense isn't great, everything else about him is. Cuz we don't need him offensively. We already have the highest run scoring team in baseball. Just because we're not hitting now doesn't mean we won't hit for the rest of the year. Soriano could bring a major starting pitcher if flipped.
  18. Heres some more speculation. Maybe the trade for Soriano would have been done already if McCarthy was part of the deal. Could be Kenny's trying to dump Vazquez or Garcia and keep BMac with plans to move him into the rotation and flip Soriano for Zito, Schmidt, or Dontrelle .
  19. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) i like to fish i like to fish i love to fish i like to fish i like to fish i love to fish i like to fish i like to fish i love to fish i like to fish i like to fish i love to fish i like to fish i like to fish i love to fish this new feature to soxtalk is quite intresting and entertaining. Right on ! I've not been around here as much but Wow what the fish happened around here ?
  20. Ahhh ! I love trade rumors. Since we won the World Series . I've been pretty scarce around here. I'd come around and do a lil lurking , reading how Matt Thorton had no place on a major league roster and thinking its all so immaterial to me now. After all we are World Champs and will be until we're eliminated or win it again. I will not let anything spoil having that giddy feeling no Sox fan had experienced for 88 years. But all that being said. When trade rumors come up I love it. So far the big blockbuster has us getting Soriano. The members of the organization involved so far includes Podsednik, Anderson, McCarthy, Fields and Broadway. Keep Pods ? Does he become the new centerfielder or a supersub ? Do we just rent Soriano or sign him long term ? Maybe we trade him since theres still another week left before the trade deadline? Can we possibly afford to just rent him while giving up the best prospects we have ? The possibilities are endless and the best part is it might never happen. Or it could happen ! Just think of the lineup ! Damn ! Right now we're in a hitting funk, but clearly one of the best offenses in baseball. Soriano adds speed and power. What if the pitching suddenly does what it is capable of doing ? Damn , another World Series would be a walk in the park. Suddenly Buerhle's pitching like the MB of old , Garland continues his recent run of good starts, the Count stays dominant , Freddy G. pitches like everyone knows he can and Javy Vazquez ,no matter how you slice it is better then just about every other 5th starter. Oooh maybe we give up a starter and move McCarthy into the rotation. Oh this is fun ! Sumone give me more idle major trade speculation.
  21. I wouldnt mind seeing Podsednik go , would hate losing Fields or Broadway. Fields is more expendable since he's at 3rd and Crede is entrenched there now.
  22. Yea I saw it. Dont worry since its espn news u'll see it again in about 1/2 hr. Wasnt much to it ,pretty much what u saw. Didnt say much else.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Not the right thread, but Beltre just hit an inside the parker against the Red Sox to take the lead in the bottom of the 8th. In terms of work ethic, Widge may have just felt real comfortable this year, while last year he was new to the team and trying to prove that he still could play at the major league level so he worked doubly as hard. And you never know, something else could have been going on in Widge's personal life, but I can't speculate on that. Either way I wish him the best. I was watching the supposedly inside the park homerun. Coco Crisp scales the wall to attempt a catch and the balls hits the wall 4 ft behind him . Manny Ramires attempts to barehad the ball off the wall and it bounces off his hand back to Crisp about 10 ft away. Crisp misses both cutoff men and Beltre beats the throw home. I cant believe Manny didnt get an error.
  24. BA will either figure it out or he won't. If he is still struggling at the trade deadline the Sox wil have to figure out if his defense is more valuable to winning another World Series or will a huge hole in the lineup be that much of a detriment to that same goal. Remember in the Series pitchers bat at the National league parks so that would make 2 gaping holes in the lineup. I seriously doubt the Sox want that. Right now you can see they like his D or else Mackowiak would be getting more AB's then he is.
  25. Liotta is in camp and sceduled to pitch in the March 1st intrasquad game.
