QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) oooooooohhh ... stop yourself and grow up and then read the thread at the top of the page. No sexual references to players, you can criticize their performance but none of your normal humor, stop it and have a PBR or maybe even a Strohs. Did I mention to stop yourself? I thought so. I have the 1977 CSN cd on the stereo right now ... underrated. I used to listen to that album constantly. Fair Game, Dark Star, Just a Song Before I Go, Cathedral, I Give You Give Blind and Shadow Captain ; all great songs. I got it on vinyl.

wHO DELETED MY POST ? -
I've watched Sox games for years and know baseball . What any announcer says has little impact on me. They're doing what I would love to be doing and in Hawk's case in a style all his own. But when a Sox players hits a HR you can hear me yelling "YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD.....YESSSS !

Our best pitcher right now is Contreras
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to atrain081's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) ^ Exactly. I am thrilled with what we have gotten out of Contreras. And actually as well as he has pitched, I still think he would be the perfect guy to use out of the pen for the playoffs. Give him long relief and maybe some set up work. Think about that arm without having to hold anything back, or to work hitters thinking of later ABs. He could go with his A stuff for the whole outing. You're right on about Contreras SS. Anyone who thinks our Big 3 won't be starting IF we make the playoffs has brain damage. When I was on vacation in June I saw Contreras stink up the joint against the DBack's. He'll absolutely be in the pen unless he's dominant till the close of the season. El Duque will get a start just because he has a great post season record no matter how mediocre anyone thinks he's been. When it comes to clutch pitching he's the man. That's one reason the Sox got him. -
Rotoworld predicts sox to sign Jarrod Washburn
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) If hypotheically I dealt Contreras to the Dbacks for Tracy (a deal I think they'd think about, with them eating the entire contract). Than I'd sign AJ Burnett and would than deal El Duque to a team to open up a spot for Brandon McCarthy. Payroll wise the rotation stays about the same, but I like a rotation of Buehrle/Garland/Garcia/Burnett/Bmac more. Offensively you get yourself a player who I believe is better than Carl Everett (plus he's a legit lefty hitter) that can also spell Crede and Konerko. Than the club can trade for Carlos Delgado and let Konerko walk. Deal Brian Anderson and maybe one more prospect for him (I think the Marlins are going to have to deal him this off-season cause he's going to be making a ridiculous amount of money). Insert Chad Tracy to replace Everett and Delgado to replace Konerko. Financially once again payroll stays the same and the team has agreed two pretty damn good left handed bats. The club now has the payroll jump to do whatever it wants at SS and 3rd base (basically my guess is 10-15 million and by the time you give Garland his raise it will be more like 10 million). Now if the math sounds a little funny: Contreras (7 mill or so)....Burnett (11-12 mill or 4-5 mill more, which is what Duque makes who also gets dealt and McCarthy makes league minimum so between the two the payroll is basically 12 million). Konerko makes 8 or so million...Delgado will get about 13, which is a 5 mill difference. Chad Tracy gets minimum while Everett makes 4.5 mill so you roughly break even there again. The Sox than buyout Thomas contract which saves you another 5 mill (after the buyout) which goes to Garland's raise, which is basically the only thing left. The club now basically stands at 75 mill (which is where I think payroll currently is) with all the new moves (ie Delgado/Burnett/etc). Ken Williams now has, depending on the 2006 payroll, 10-15 million to give to free agents or to use on a player acquired via trade. End pipe dream though cause that would be a whole lot of moves for a team making the playoffs. However, I think that would make for one hell of a team. Don't ask me how to spend the other money, but I'd probably spend half of it on a ss or 3rd baseman and the other half on a guy like Billy Wagner. Wow Jason ! You got it all figured out. Thanks buddy. Now I don't have to bother watching the sports news or reading Soxtalk during the winter. -
If our lead shrinks to 5 games. I believe we will be in a tailspin instead of a bump in the road . So until then ,yeah , losing sucks, but it's inevitable.

Guess that guy will never trust you again huh ? Hope its worth a friendship just to scoop everyone when you don't even get paid to do it.

Pk's slow enough without having splinters in his ass . Keep him playing. If the ump makes the right call this thread doesnt even exist.

Thanks Yaz for sharing that article. I am a big baby at heart and was quite touched by Cowley's writing. Articles of this nature that show human compassion are way too few and far between. Now back to the backstabbing ,venom filled, know-it-alls.

Hawk & Mariotti War Continues
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Eh, I just watch the games , listen to Hawk and DJ and like many here have said, its like watching with an old friend. Hell we're all so busy ripping each other new ones on this board whats the difference between that and the Hawk/Jay feud besides thats its more public ? People disagree , thats our nature, everyone thinks they're right. No ones willing to listen , and when they do listen , they're not really listening , just waiting for their turn to talk. -
I was pretty shocked to see Jenks for a 3rd inning but I didn't question the move. Ozzie knew as soon as he brought in Adkins the game would be over . He kept Jenks on the hill in the hopes the meager Sox offense could scratch out a run . Didn't pan out. I was extremey pleased with Jenks. He got out of a nice little jam one inning with a man on 3rd and 1 out.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) None of our hitters are those guys. Striking out a lot doesnt matter up until you have men on and less than 2 outs and you need contact. If the guy is a complete free swinger than you are focked. If he Ks a lot with no men on because he is trying to throttle a pitch its not a big deal. Its all about situations. I know its all about situations which is exactly why i mentioned pop outs ,shallow fly balls,DP's etc. Theres are a lot of ways to screw up a men in scoring position situation other then a K.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Anderson .296BA with a .362OBP The only knock is he strikes out a lot. Well he strikes out like the rest of our hitters. None of our guys are real good contact guys, so whats one more. I never understand why striking out a lot is such a bad thing. Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackon and many, many others struck out a lot. It's much better then hitting into a DP. Yea I know its not a "productive" out but neither are pop outs , shallow fly balls and weak ground balls to the wrong side of the infield with runners on and no one keeps track of those.

I totally agree with the new blood approach. I don't hate any Sox player but am tired of seeing Timo and Willie. The Braves weren't afraid to put Francouer in their lineup and look what he's done. We already know Timo and Willies capabilities. It's time to get a new blood transfusion and see what Anderson can do. Doubt he can do much worse then what we already have.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) That sounds all good Jim, but you're kidding yourself. Adkins hasn't been saving anyone by getting warmed up. Our biggest lead of august was yesterday, with a 4 run margin, similarly, we faced our largest deficit of 4 runs. Adkins wasn't getting warm either time. 4 runs is too close of a game to bring him in. He's f'n useless. He is giving Ozzie a license to use Cotts for one batter though. Cuz hey, if you've got an extra arm in the pen, you ain't gotta worry about running outta pitchas. I argued long ago for Adkins being used exactly as Jim said but after seeing Timo bat 5th and Adkins lack of use I'm more inclined now to agree with Gene. I don't think Cotts gets in there enough lately. It seems as though Ozzie is experimenting with Jenks when Cotts should be given a chance in the same role they are trying to fit Jenks into.

Griffey WAS a done deal before deadline
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ok I guess this info was posted somewhere in the trade winds section , but I think a few people might skip that section. Delete this thread if you think it's repetitive. -
I was convinced early in the year when I posted a thread asking Soxtalk to come up with a nickname for this years Sox before the media did. Sadly it got very few responses. Maybe people thought I was jumping the gun a bit or no one wanted to use any brainpower. And before anyone else says it, maybe it was just a crappy thread.

According to the August 10-16 USA Sports Weekly, Ken Griffey Jr. was traded to the White Sox before the trade deadline. Going to the Reds was OF Chris Young, Casey Rogowski and other prospects. The Reds were to have picked up at least $15 million of the remaining $41.8 remaining on Griffey's contract. Jerry Reinsdorf and Red's President John Allen approved the deal until Red's owner Carl Lindner nixed it. Griffey and his agent had given the Red's a list of 3 teams he could be traded to which included the Yankees, Braves and Astros, which could be why the Red's owner didn't approve of the trade. Sorry if this has been posted anywhere before.

I was watching the game on YES and I saw that hole in the screen where he landed. I automatically started saying he jumped because it was so far down from the railing. If he had fell he just would've rolled down the screen.
