  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) Why did KW sign Hermanson? Jermaine Dye will be injured too much and won't match Maggs' production in 2005. Podsednik won't steal any bases cuz he can't get on base. Carla Everett is worthless. El Duque is too old and can't go more than 5 innings All this s*** was heard or read over the offseason, and we saw the complete opposite of it tonight. El Duque's will surprise everyone with just how good he is. Thats from a march 28th post of mine on the thread what has spring training showed you.
  2. GRRR i hate games on WCIU . No freakin twins tv for this game on DirectTV . I can watch 6 freaking games on now and none of them are the White Sox. Missed all 3 game against the indians cause of day games and work and now this . I'm jonesing to see a reg season game.
  3. I know its a new feature and all but is anyone using the chat room? I come home from work and write a few posts and sit in chat waiting to see if anyone will show up and no one does. I know there's a 2 hr. time difference between Cali and Ill. maybe you're all in bed . If you show up and do a sound effect I should hear it and reply.
  4. Hey chill its spring training for posters too. Always wanted to use this, seemed like a good spot
  5. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) I don't mean to add any pressure (not that he reads this anyways) but this is the ONLY reason we brought in El Duque. His MO is that he is a money pitcher. You feel kind of funny calling the fourth game of the year a money game, but let's face it-it's worth slightly more than your typical game. Tomorrow isn;t the end of the world if we lose but it is a tremendous oportunity to let Minnesota know that we have a new top starter in town I agree wholeheartedly. This is precisely why El Duque was brought in here. After 3 days at work and missing the day games on TV I sure hope the Twins are broadcasting this one. WCIU games means my MLB DirecTV package will have to pick up the Twins feed.
  6. Very happy with 2 outta 3 against a team most "experts" picked to finish ahead of us. Starting pitching was awesome. Glad to see Iguchi and A.J. play well. Wish Crede would start hitting. Rowand should be batting 3rd against lefties no doubt in my mind , the rest of the time he should be no lower than 5th. If you wanna play semi-small ball doesn't his batting avg. make him more valuable higher up in the order? Let's beat the crap outta the Twinkies
  7. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) How many closer by committee bullpens have been successful though? Hermanson blew some big ones last year. I also remember a game where Politte dominated the 8th inning and came out for the 9th and quickly gave up two hits. Shingo's command was off today, he usually doesn't leave those fastballs up like that. Last year Hermanson had 17 saves in 20 save opportunities. He is also one of our few relievers who is capable of pitching 2-5 innings. Hermanson absolutely should have got the call in the 9th. No disrespect meant for Shingo but as previously mentioned Guillen had already used up quite a bit of the bullpen with his 1/3 inning binge. After saying all preseason that he wouldn't be afraid to use different pitchers to close out the game Guillen possibly let a personal decision to get Shingo another save interfer with the outcome of the game and contradicted himself in the process.
  8. That is the best ! Does the dinosaur ever step on the salamander ?
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) The catcher position is totally different from any other position in regards to importance. What you have is solid veteran catcher, that is not washed up ala Alomar, who knows how to work with a pitching staff. Burke, for all his magic with the bat last year, was very rough defensively. He was not a very good "receiver". He allowed too many passed balls and wasn't great a preventing the wild pitch. And the dude could not hold on to a throw from the outfield on a play at the plate, if his life depended on it. And that was before the Hunter incident. I'm sure the decision to keep Widger involved KW, Ozzie, Coop and the pitching staff to an extent. You hit it right on the head. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  10. I thought 3 games was rather exdessive considering what Hermanson did happened last year with San Fran and he's now with the Sox . No need to punish his new team for what he did with his old team. 1 game is basically a non-penalty for a bullpen guy.
  11. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) I know how you feel, sometimes you have to wonder if you are being ignored...God knows I have tried to put myself on ignore but it just never seems to work Frankly I didnt even know there was an ignore feature ,but I could never use it. I know we all share a common thread and that is a world championship for our beloved White Sox. There is only one person who's posts annoy me slightly but being a relative newbie and the person I refer to is considered a God/Goddess around here , I'll choose the high road and STFU.
  12. It's funny how on a team thats supposed to be build around speed and defense that our most speedy guy (Harris) and some of our best defensive players (Crede and Harris) seem to be on a short leash. In today's game lack of offensive production at any position gets you benched. Someone like Mark Belanger ( a light hitting, great fielding shortstop of the Orioles great teams of the late 60's to mid 70's) would never make it in today's era of smash mouth baseball. Fan's dig the homerun , no doubt about it. If u you need proof read yesterday game thread. There was plenty of talk about all the home runs but when Az. was hitting nary a word was said about Adkins pitching or his final line for the day ( 5 innings only 1 hit allowed). We would all love having great defense combined with great ofense all rolled up in every player at every position but that just aint gonna happen.
  13. Awesome ! I always wondered why there wasn't a chat room for this site. With all the arguments that come up a chat room will be insane. Hmmm I wonder if all the people whose number of posts is a great source of ego( seeing their 2 cents worth all over the place) will bother to use a chat room if it cuts into the number of their posts?
  14. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) Some of these may have already been discussed before. Other may have not. Looking forward to mullet night I went to the Sox- Dodger games in Dodger stadium with my kids and Dad . And was thinking about trying to round up my kids , go see my old man and take in that Sox 1959 cap game. The visit from me and his grandkids plus maybe a message on the scoreboard for him ($40) and a picture of it($15) would make for a great Fathers Day present .A Visit from his grandkids (priceless)
  15. Jabroni you must feel like your kid just graduated Magna cum laude.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) As Bill Murray said in "Meatballs" ... "It just doesn't matter." I might be one of the few to have Meatballs om DVD. Love it.
  17. QUOTE(danman31 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) Back to the original poll: The Bulls have 13 games left. Let's say best case scenario they go 10-3, that means the Pistons have to finish 5-7. Keep dreaming, we aren't winning the division. Thanks 4 doing the math . Dan u da man. 100% agree.
  18. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) I think most of us did. UMMM not quite.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) That's what I'm wondering too. Any help? According to my DirecTV schedule Baseball Tonight will be on about 9:15 Pm PST after womens college basketball and Outside the Lines on ESPN. That's 11:15 Central time.
  20. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Hey, the guy believes in the bible over scientific discoveries. What's wrong with that? Here's a few of my favorite Carl quotables... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/...rett_flashback/ Good article Jabroni. Thanks. Btw if Carl was driving a chariot instead of driving cars and flying in airplanes I might think he has no use for scientific discoveries.
  21. QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) This is from the Daily Herald article by Scot Gregor that Rotoworld quoted: This might be the next ‘Big Hurt’ controversy, with Marioti and his ilk calling him selfish again. I think HOF bound Frank Thomas should be respected enough to judge for himself whether he wants at bats in AAA or jumps right back into the soup. Every time someone has argued with him on a fitness issue -like Jerry Manual over his ankle, or KW about being a decoy (when he couldn't even walk)- Frank has been proven right all along. Pompous Tsar KW should thank God everyday that he inherited the big hurt and not presume to tell him what to do. Don't forget David Well's also questioned the severity of one of Frank's injuries and was also proven wrong. Even now I can't see Frank finishing his career in a Sox uni because of the way he is viewed by KW and Oz.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Either way Detroit is going to be ready come playoff time, and I think almost everyone knows it's going to be a Pistons vs Heat Conference Final. But I wish Skiles would be getting more for coach of the year, instead of Mike Fratello and George Karl. Skiles will get plent of consideration fro Coach of the Year . Fratello and Karl have not coached a full season. Skiles main competition is Indiana coach Rick Carlisle for theway the Pacers have hung in the playoff pictures with a decimated roster.
