QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) True, but looking at video of Frank, I think he looks more in shape this year that the past, so I believe in his work ethic. I think part of the reason that he may be in a hurry to get back is the positive press that has come from the steroid hearings. Now everyone knows that he is a model of someone who hasnt juiced, and has been HOF-worthy without it. Now I think he knows if he is successful this season, he may not only generate a paycheck but be thought of in a more positive light. Absolutely agree. Frank is very highly motivated to come back strong this year. He's an integral part of this team. Especially if Pods isnt getting on base. Everett could end up in left while Frank does his DH thing. 500 HR's, the HOF and being a White Sox till the end of his playing days led to his strong rehab and workout regiment in the off season

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Are you getting the ST games on Comcast? I live outside of Chicago, and when I looked into getting DTV, I was told that the games would be blacked out outisde of Chicago and that I would have to buy the MLB package to get the games. Yes I am getting the "live " ST games but for some reason am not getting the rebroadcast. Like right now Comcast is blank because they blackout the rebroadcast of the game. That in itself is rather odd because when I first signed up to Comcast early in ST I saw a rebroadcast. Shortly after that all rebroadcasts have been blacked out.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Hadn't heard this, thanks. Widger hasn't been sent down yet, nor Walker. Interesting. No problem ,I'm making the most of my 1 month subscription to Comcast . Once the season starts I have the DirecTV MLB package and will dump the sports package which includes Comcast.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) No big surprise here, and alluded to in today's Tribune by KW ... Levine's take on the last two roster spots is that both Ozuna and Harris will make the team. This is not how I thought it would go but as spring training has unfolded it played out that way. He didn't talk about the pitching staff but didn't think there'd be any surprises. 14 position guys, 11 pitchers. I see it playing out like this: Catcher: Pierzynski and Davis 1B: Konerko and Gload 2B: Iguchi and Harris SS: Uribe 3B: Crede, Ozuna as utility OF: Podsednik, Rowand, Dye, Perez DH: Everett Pitchers: Buehrle, Garcia, Hernandez, Contreras, Garland, Takatsu, Hermanson, Marte, Vizcaino, Politte, Cotts *************** On the outside looking in: Burke, Widger, Adkins, Walker Then, the big decision comes when Thomas comes back. As the roster stands, the team is lacking a right handed hitter off the bench. It's very possible they looked at Ozuna and felt he could be a decent righthanded pinch hitter. We'll see within a week how it shakes out. Adkins ,Borchard, McCarthy & Burke already have been sent down. Wilson Valdez was put on waivers and claimed by the Mets.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) Carl's a lot smarter than I thought. Weighing in on the Da Vinci Code like that. You're giving Carl credit for being a lot smarter then you thought when he denies the existence of dinosaurs and but mentions the Da Vinci Code ? I have no opinion on wether Carl is intelligent or not but to deny the existence of dinosaurs which is based in indisputable fact is asinine . As far as mentioning the Da Vinci code , I could bring up the theory of relativity but that doesnt mean I know a damn thing about it .

What Has Spring Training Showed You?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm cautiously optimistic as I am with every season. If there's one thing we can count on this season it's the bullpen. El Duque's will surprise everyone with just how good he is. Garland should be our # 4 and Contreras..well our bullpen will be very good. Our run production will be fine and it has the potential to be very good if Pods can have a good year and Frank comes back healthy enough to produce. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) And the Cubune gets a shot in at the Sox big offensive day... I guess those 32 mph wind gusts only helped the Sox and not the Brewers. :rolly The Sox had 25 freakin hits. 0nly 2 were homers. Borchard had a double that was possibly wind aided. Thats 3 out of 25. I 'd hardly call that many. Cubune blows!

Podsednik leads off the game with a triple No outs . Harris hits a shallow fly ball. With no outs in the regular season there's no way they send Pods. So yes they were "messing" with Carlos or testing him, whatever you wanna call it. Cora new Carlos had 11 assists last year probably 5-6 on throws home. On Marte hitting Carlos, unless anyone is privy to inside info it's 50/50 on wether it was on purpose or not. Is Marte working on coming inside to righthanders? Yes. Was the pitch straight at Carlos ? Yes. I dont have a problem with his attitude just because he changed uniforms. CLee will be missed wether or not the Sox do better or worse without him.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) OPS is On Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage combined. It's very telling for run producers, and not as telling for table setters. For example, Rickey Henderson and Ichiro Suzuki aren't sluggers, so they never have/never will post a high OPS. Career OPS Top 10 Rank Player (age) OPS Bats 1. Babe Ruth+ 1.1636 L 2. Ted Williams+ 1.1155 L 3. Lou Gehrig+ 1.0798 L 4. Barry Bonds (39) 1.0533 L 5. Todd Helton (30) 1.0480 L 6. Jimmie Foxx+ 1.0376 R 7. Hank Greenberg+ 1.0169 R 8. Rogers Hornsby+ 1.0103 R 9. Everyone makes very valid points on why Frank will or won't be a 1st ballot HOF'er. Personally I think he should be but I think the possiblity exists ,at this point in his career, that he won't be. Frank thinks he has 4 or 5 yrs. left. I dont see that happening. He is getting more and more fragile. As for OPS I've been a huge baseball and White Sox fan for many yrs. and I don't even know what OPS is. Something about total bases against the number of outs maybe??? Care to enlighten me ? I'm not toatally convinced that OPS will be "the standard" for HOF votes in the future. I've heard the "Is Frank Thomas a 1st ballot HOFer" being discussed many times in the national media and I never hear it mentioned ,only the standard stats most every baseball fan knows like HR's RBI's B.A. And being a DH will certainly hurt him. A lot of voters see being a DH as not being a "complete" player.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) I still have no idea what the hell you are talking about or why you are responding to me. Frank did things the right way.. what the hell that has to do with his size or why you seem to think I said size had anything to do with it is beyond me. Apparently you're a bit mixed up with whom you are responding to. I'm not mixed up at all. If you can't see my point I can't help that. You originally said something that I responded to which you responded too which i responded to etc. I can't help it you have over 12,00 posts and cant keep track of who you're talking to. (If i knew how to make that last sentence in green I would.) Don't get so testy. I love the Sox you love the Sox. What you say from now on will be the last word. I have reread every word in this thread and I have no intention of trying to make you understand what I am talking about. Sorry about any misunderstanding. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) It amazes me that an admin or mod has not been in pale hose since the game started. Or at the very least they didn't see it. What are the chances of that? Thats why I started the thread. Game was about to start and I saw no game thread so I said " What the heck, I can start a game thread can't I"? I've been good luck so far. -
