  1. He's not really that fast . Too early to tell how his OF play will be graded. His sprint speed is only listed as 55 and if you compare his baseball savant page to Outmans, Outman's jumps off the page at you while Colas doesn't look good at all. Too early to tell really but thought I'd mention it. Colas still seems to be getting a feel for MLB so even though he's been hitting OK, nothing really stands out . He's been steady , nothing too good or too bad
  2. OH yes Oscar Colassal ! My other rookies I wanted to get in the off season have also had nice starts James Outman and Stone Garrett. Garrett was sent down to start the season but was called back up and since has gone 7/12 with 1 HR , 2BB and 5 RBI. .4 fWAR in just 3 games . Outman 8/27, 3 HR , 7 BB, 9 RBI, 1 SB .8 fWar playing mostly CF Colas 11/36 , 1 HR, 2 BB, 4 RBI, 2 SB Outman might have a better year than Benentendi. We'll see at the end of the season that maybe my plan wasn't so bad . May end up better than Hahn. But it would've been difficult to pry Outman away from the Dodgers. He seemed to be in their plans along with other youth like Vargas Some rated rookies about the same age as Outman are still in the minors due to defense which was always why I liked the unranked Outman better. Time will tell on all of them. Garrett is already 27. My goal before the Sox signed Benintendi was to get younger more LH ,faster OFers and more team control thus freeing up the money the Sox used on Benitendi for other needs (pitching depth).I was not inclined to try to sign a 2nd baseman unless we got Andrus for cheap which the Sox did.
  3. They sure did. Sox showing patience with a struggling pitcher and they get screwed.
  4. Because Soxtalk has so many rational thinkers and scouts in its ranks ?
  5. Gloating ? It's one win, means nothing, just like one loss or a couple bad outings. The commentary was about over reactions when we're supposed to be baseball fans and we supposedly know how things work. Everyone knows game threads are a cesspool.
  6. Judging by game threads I thought most of the roster was about to be DFA'd. I swear if I was keeping track of how many guys were "done" it might be it might be 10 guys. Was the season shortened to 20 games when I wasn't looking ?
  7. Ump sucks put Andrus and Romy behind on 1st pitch balls called strikes that weren't close.
  8. Elko hit one for Kanny. Mondue and Rodriguez for Birmingham.
  9. As fans it's frustrating that our best players seem to be our most injured players But imagine it from the players side. We can think Eloy isn't doing everything he can to prevent injuries but maybe he is. Maybe he is stretching and running and staying loose during games. Some people just break down easier than others. You can't compare him to Abreu because they don't have the same genes. He's supposed to be the best hitter on a team that's supposed to be good. It has to be eating him up inside that he can't stay healthy and be as great as he can be and earn a lot more money. Brandon Woodruff pulled a hammy stretching before his MLB Debut. There he was doing what he's supposed to be doing to stay loose and healthy and doing the right thing hurt him. Maybe he was doing the right thing the wrong way. However what he did that hurt him may not hurt 99% of the other players. You just never know. It blows to have guys who were supposed to be our best players always hurt but there's not a helluva lot we can do about it. Eloy tried to get in good shape for the season. He lost 25 lbs. I'm sure his regiment included diet , exercise, stretching, weights, sleep etc. He played well last year after he came back. Luckily this time is shorter and maybe he can come back guns blazing.
  10. Didn't he have a slight calf problem in the spring ? I think that stance will screw with his calf but it could go higher up I suppose.
  11. From what Grifol said he did not have a good night . Probably yakkin his guts out. Gutty performance !
  12. Plus he was out. Other angle showed the glove touching him before his foot hit the base.
  13. So far so good but extremely small sample and maybe not facing much LHP. I'll be watching his progress. I liked his entire game not just his hitting but hitting is always the 1st sign that you belong. Defense also makes you useful for late innings when you don't start and in all 3 OF positions with a decent arm.
  14. I think he left him in because the BP was gassed from all the innings they pitched against the Astros and managers will let a starting pitcher stay in because of that. He also let Ruiz wear it when he also got pummeled and then finally had to bring in Alberto to pitch. Some might argue that with and off day today he could've pulled Kopech earlier but then he's bringing someone who might already be gassed or because he would've had to cover more innings would have to eventually bring in someone was was gassed and risk arm problems since most of the relievers are only good for 1 inning. Kopech also had a late start on pitching in spring training because of his knee. He could be at the point now that some pitchers get in ST with a dead arm. If after 2 or 3 starts he's still ineffective I'll be concerned. Other might be concerned after his next start but I'll give it a bit longer than that. How many Starts did Kopech have in ST? 2 maybe? Lynn between the WBC and ST maybe had 4 or 5.
  15. I was hoping he'd go with the slider under Pederson's hands on 1-2 after the 1st ball was up and away out he did not.
  16. ALso had 11 assists last year. That's a bunch and most of them came in his time in AA.
