Getting Jansen, who is from Elmhurst, would have the extra added attraction of Benetti constantly reminding us where he is from.
-
Benintendi and Outman would be a good thing.
-
Really, why would I be mad ? But I think some people might be very upset if they traded for Outman and stuck him and Colas in the OF on opening day.

It;s pretty obvious that this ownership group is not interested in winning a World Series the way we want them to, would be more accurate. JR just has his own outdated ideas on how to do it and cares more about the bottom line than spending like a madman or even spending on any top talent. He allowed Hahn and Co. to rebuild , build a core of potentially very good players. However the players have responded with inconsistent results or not enough good years as a group to do any better than make the playoffs 2 years while letting the farm system rot away after too many picks fizzled. Early on under Renteria, in the 1st playoff, the starting pitching wasn't there. After that it was TLR and a massive amount of devastating injuries to the core while Hahn was wasting money all over the place on supplementing the core. We lose Rodon after a spectacular year. We lost Cueto and Abreu this year and will finally let Vaughn play after 2 unproductive years in the OF. Then when we finally get a chance to play a real power hitting LH OF people think it's a good idea to keep him down and gain the extra year with some faint hope that his last year will be a year the Sox contend ? It sucks being in this position as fans and longing for these reclamation projects to be signed and for them to play well while saying, "well it's better than nothing" . Even if JR signs someone like Gallo these fans will claim victory because, "see I told you they would spend more" as if that's worthy of a victory lap. The player still has to perform. Hahn isn't good enough at his job to build a contender which means everyone around him he's relying on to help him make smart choices, scouts, statisticians, whoever also aren't good enough at their jobs to identify or develop major or minor league talent. JR pretty much decides he'll not only control the purse strings but also who the manager is and if he'll pay for top behind the scene talent.

If we just think of Merk as a Sox publicist and not a journalist he's fine. -
Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million

He makes a lot of appearances and videos. He says the same things a lot all the time. He threw a name out there big deal . He said" Gallo or someone" and never used the word " signing " . Greenberg used "signing" then the thread starter used "signing". All during the winter meetings we heard Hahn say trades were more likely. We heard Fegan say the payroll was 180M . We heard most fans believing that and cursing JR in most posts here. Now just like that it's supposed to be a signing because Kap said Gallo a few times and people completely throw all the other info out the window that theyve been bitching about for a couple of weeks. Yea Idk that's strange to me. But ok It's Gallo and Herb Lawrence is right and all the national guys haven't got a clue yet on something so specific . Weird.
-
They don't have to worry about that if it's a trade. Everyone's assuming it's a FA signing which is kind of weird.

Came up in 2021 did better in 2022 hopefully you read that article I posted on how he rebuilt his swing with Driveline. He put his time on the sidelines during 2020 to good use . There are players who can be fixed and as I said before, 2020 was a year that could help you or hurt you and sometimes both . It gave you time to work on things that need time to fix like your whole swing. Not an easy thing to fix . Takes constant reinforcement and repetition to swing a whole new way than what you have done your whole life but it also takes a year off the calendar for older prospects who bloom late . Outman basically did the same thing , fixed his whole swing. Nootbaar is kind of a template for what Outman could be once he gets some PT in the majors. Usually most scouting reports I find on players I get through MLB Pipelines Top 30 prospects for each team list. Couldnt do that with Nootbaar since he was never on any Top 30 list of the Cards. He seems like a good defensive OF from his Baseball Savant Page you'd like him based on that. It's filled with red offensively and defensively ( which is good). Very strong arm , I love those guys with guns.

Funny thing is I went through the Cardinal top 30 prospects going back to 2019 to the present and didn't see Nootbaars name on any of their Top 30 prospects on MLB Pipeline. He just started hitting in 2021 after playing in the Cardinals alternate site in 2020 since there wasn't a 2020 Minor League season. He wasn't anything special in AA in 2019 as an 8th rd pick but all of a sudden in AAA in 2021 he was on fire and the Cards just called him up after only 35 games in AAA when he was 23. Body like Outman 6'3" 215. But Cards another one of those organization that has a knack for developing. This is what I found regarding his transformation in such a short period of time. https://www.drivelinebaseball.com/2022/04/st-louis-cardinals-how-lars-nootbaar-added-8-mph-of-bat-speed/ It's really some fascinating stuff on how Driveline identifies and fixes problems with a slow swing.

Lawrence's source said 1 year $10M so if we were outbid (assuming it's all true) then what might we be looking at ? Incentives? Option year? 2 years guaranteed ?
-
Ok but didn't Lawrence back down from what he originally said ? That's ok picking out any specific player in a trade is not likely anyway but I wouldn't mind Jake McCarthy or Daulton Varsho
-
You listened to it? The only thing he said that MIGHT indicate its a signing is he mentioned Gallo ,most likely because he's the only FA OF in any Sox rumors for an OFer lately. He didn't say signing but that's how its been interpreted I suppose by the majority here. Where did the Gallo rumor originate ? Was it a foodie? I can't find anything on MLBTR of a legitimate link to the Sox by anyone else.I mean sure it could be Gallo based on what we all expect from from the Sox at this point.
-
He just threw his name out there along with "or someone". He never used the word signing. Greenberg listened to what Kap said and "signing" was his word.
-
Could be a trade. Everyone is talking about a FA but thats not what Kap said.
-
Technically there was no playoffs for a very long time. There was just the World Series . The modern term "playoffs" means a series of steps to get you to the final series for a championship. One round like the World Series is a playoff. But I doubt anyone used the word playoff very often. It was just the World Series. 2 rounds or more is playoffs. The Sox are in last place because they had a long (sad) history before 1969 and the Yankees dominated in the AL and maybe the Cardinals in the NL. Of course they haven't done much better since the modern playoffs started either.
-
It's not that vague. He said new LF in 24-48 hrs. What else do you want from him ? If anyone else like Passan. Morosi, Heyman or Rosenthal had a clue who it was they would post the rumor. So far the big boys aren't aware of anything. Or it's such a meaningless signing that they don't care.
