  1. I edited my post to include that Greenberg is the one who said signing which implies a FA but Kap didn't say "signing" he just said may have a new LF.
  2. He said Sox are closing in on a LF in the next 24-48 hours. Greenberg said signing which implies a FA but Kap just said a new LF not a free agent and just speculated by throwing Gallo's name out there but said not sure if its him "or someone".
  3. Would be even more revolting if he listed how much money they spent on their other FA signings. Graveman was the biggest last year but Leury, Kelly, Velasquez, Harrison then Cueto only because Lynn got injured . Then traded the Kimbrel contract for an even bigger contract for Pollock which he luckily opted out of . That might be the only reason we got Clevinger. Also decided to do Boras, Rodon and the rest of MLB a solid and neglected the White Sox by not giving the QO to Rodon. Spent a decent amount of money (for them) last season which resulted in no playoff revenue so JR pulled the plug on spending this year instead of firing Hahn. I really think JR ties attendance and playoff money to payroll. I got nothing else.
  4. That's from August of 2022 , so hasn't happened . Getz was probably instrumental in hiring Grifol. Getz and AJ played together for Getz's only 2 years with the Sox so he probably saw 1st hand how AJP treated people. Trying to figure out it's relevance in this thread but carry on.
  5. "Does Conforto + Frazier + Pillar require Sox to dump some money? It shouldn't - it would put the Sox almost exactly where they were in 2022 payroll wise. Its unlikely the Sox don't make any trades. Perhaps the LH OF comes via trade as the means of saving the ~$18M you'd have to pay Conforto. " Yes you played both sides of the fence very well here by saying those players shouldn't require the Sox to dump some money. But also said the Sox could trade for the LF and thus maybe get Frazier and Pillar somewhere between $5-9M. A trade for your LF would save approx. 66%-75% of your proposed signings.( Conforto at $18M Frazier at $3M or $6M ,Pillar at 2 or $3M) . I assume you have some idea who the Sox would trade and who they would get since you don't want a 2 rookies playing OF . Do they go with a veteran or a Pre arb OF ? Who is this LH OF you would trade for ? So throw me some proposed trades and finish off your plan here just in case the Sox don't spend $21-$27M on your 3 guys.
  6. Nah JR is going to sign Conforto. Also will sign garbage pail OF/2b vets for all for the low low price $25M so they don't have to play Sheets or Eloy in the OF and can keep Colas down because those garbage pail vets will surely outproduce Colas offensively and defensively. After all he is just a rookie without hardly any time in AAA . He has to earn playing time for the mighty White Sox. And those garbage pail pickups will make all the difference. It's extremely unlikely anyway Colas will be good enough to earn the Sox a supplemental draft pick so why even bother to play him from the beginning of the season ? Playoffs here we come !
  7. Maybe somehow you have missed all the threads being filled up with venom for Hahn and JR ? So i don't think I'm alone in much lowered expectations for this season. If the goal is to win the division and get a game or 2 of playoff revenue in the hopes JR will spend more fine, go with that then. I have nothing against positive people. Most of my talks with Balta have revolved around me having some hope that things will go right but you are less disappointed if you set your expectations too high and most of the time with the Sox you're just fooling yourself and you don't believe it.
  8. They really liked them even more last year. That didnt work out too well. They have lowered their expectations this year though.
  9. See this where I have issues with you. My conversation to you today has been civil. But you tell me Yawn and hyperbole me with 15X a day . Excuse me if if expect people to discuss differences without slighting the other person's posting style . Lots of people here know what I mean, @Balta1701 @caulfield12 just to name a couple of guys who are very civil but unique individuals . To me it's a way of bullying .Maybe you think it's no big deal and I take it too seriously but its the main reason people think a place like twitter is a cesspool filled with keyboard warriors .I'd rather not be subjected to that kind of behavior on Soxtalk. Most of our readers in the offseason aren't here every day and I have many conversations with good people here . If I posted very little about Outman and others it doesn't get seen and I wouldn't have people telling me Outman might be a good idea as a secondary piece in a trade or just as an interesting find. @bmags liked Outman, @Y2Jimmy0liked Stone Garret and thought the Sox should inquire about him too. You make it personal and I'm supposed to get over it ? But you're not the only one here doing that so I guess that makes it ok. People don't speak up enough about it. I attack only when I am provoked. My one suspension in 15+ years was from getting angry that another poster was treated like crap and I stuck up for him and said something to the attacker that wasn't so nice. We have mods who bully people too and make it personal. On the other side @Texsox is a great mod.
  10. My opinion is the Sox have a 10% chance of being a playoff team in a weak division if a lot of things fall the right way which is mostly incumbent on about 11 guys being better or some combination of those players being much better. I think we are actually in the same place . Sox are going to mostly stand pat. I think amything they do will likely result in failure. Your plan my plan, doesn't matter. The Sox cant help but be medicore. It's sickening watching Hahn constantly picking guys that flop and spending the money poorly and I'm really sorry if I dont think Gallo or Conforto or Frazier or Pillar are any better than what Hahn has already attempted. AT least with young players with control I can adjust my expectations from instant success with short term pieces did have continually failed to they just need a little more time. We keep getting set up by the FO that this time their latest fix will work if only the guys we put our faith in finally all have one good year at the same time under our amazing new manager. I just don't see much difference between their plan and yours.
  11. Of course and I'm glad you made that point. You could be right just as I could be right but I'll discuss it rather then lead some kind of charge against you with TLR emojis and making fun of my posts because I believed in getting youngish players now rather than retreads like Payton. Sooner or later after treading mediocrity again for a couple of year the Sox may just realize damn we need some new blood. We've already been treading mediocrity for 1.5 years. The clock is ticking very quickly on any contention window . How long it takes the FO to realize it's over and stop trying to save face is anyones guess. This may be the last year.
  12. The guys that fail to live up to the pressure are many . There's no doubts about that. But the history of baseball is filled with guys who produced right away, guys that produced right away and then flopped and those who struggled then produced and guys that struggle for multiple years and then produced. There's absolutely know way to know unless you start their careers. As the 2nd best OF the Sox currently have and the likelihood is that it will remain that way. Might as well get that train moving now. Pressure is created in your head. Some people just tune it all out, roll with the punches and make adjustments
  13. I don't know what they are trying to do. Do you think the Sox are going to try and sign Conforto, Pillar and Frazier ? Because that's my problem. Does anybody know what they are trying to do ? Whats the best we can reasonably expect ? If you don't think they are going to compete no matter what why keep spending money and just play the young guys.
  14. ANd I could bring of a lot of guys who were impact rookies and helped there teams immensely. Were those teams not smart ? Stop pretending it's just smart when it could be the best thing ever. You're just playing the odds and disguising it as the smart and right thing to do.
  15. Wouldnt it make more sense for a .500 team to rely on a rookie ? I suppose if you think the Sox are loaded then sure but they aren't . Loaded teams don't have every single position player either play very badly or injured 40% of the season.I mean I understand the need to think JR will spend money but so far it hasn't materialized and Chisox59 seems to be one of the few thinking it will happen.
  16. How much are you expecting Conforto, Pillar and Frazier to cost that would put the Sox at the payroll the had last year ? There a lot of competition for OFers now. Conforto may get way more than you are expecting just based on dearth of OFers available and the money being thrown around. Meanwhile you are stuck waiting to sign him. When would you expect all this to get done and why do you repeatedly trust the JR will pony up for any of this ?
  17. No matter when a player comes up from the minors, he'll be awarded a full year of service if he finishes first or second in Rookie of the Year voting. A new system put in place now rewards teams with extra draft picks if they promote their top prospects on Opening Day. A player who receives a full year of service time and finishes in the top three in Rookie of the Year voting or top five in MVP/Cy Young voting will earn his team an extra draft pick coming after the first round. Seems a little ambiguous to me. Colas can be awarded a full years service time if he's in the top 2 ROY voting . The 1st sentence of the 2nd paragraph says , " A player who "receives" a full year of service time and finishes in the top three in Rookie of the Year voting or top five in MVP/Cy Young voting will earn his team an extra draft pick coming after the first round. That seems a bit ambiguous. depending on the definition of "receives". Does "receives" mean strictly opening day and/or if he's awarded a full year based on finishing in the top 2 in rookie of the year as the 1st paragraph states ? So theoretically if Colas finishes in the top 2 in ROY he will be awarded a full year and get the Sox a top draft pick despite not being on the Opening Day roster ?
  18. Good find and I'll give the reasons from that article to answer Balta's question.Cease benefited greatly from those new rules and got an extra $2M for his performance last year. A new pre-arbitration bonus pool allows the best players in a class to boost their pay significantly through on-field performance while still in the early arbitration years of their contract. The top 100 players via a WAR-based formula and the end-of-year award winners will split up $50 million annually.
  19. @Y2Jimmy0 suggested a guy a month or so ago. Can't remember his name.
  20. True and some of us wanted him up last year to be eligible for the playoffs so he wouldn't have to start cold and learn how to play The GRate OF on fly and were sick of the OF defense costing games because they couldn't keep runners honest or throw anyone out and watching of our hitters LHH crumble down the stretch. and watch Robert take terrible swings while injured.
  21. I never said the Sox can be fixed. I have fleeting hope enough players can rebound to let them compete in a poor division but that just fans the flames of the Sox to keep doing what Hahn does which isn't good. It's ALMOST a no win position they are in but if Hahn and JR treat the upcoming years like they treated Kimbrel's option then that means trying to save face with their original plan until however many years that is expires then another rebuild ? My only hope is that the Sox can somehow fill a couple of holes AND enough players can rebound to keep them in serious contention without Hendriks but I'm not diluting myself into thinking that will actually happen. So I trade Hendriks and get a start on whatever is going to happen whenever the clowns decide the window has finally closed.
