  1. Then find another guy to trade for who can close. Kopech's available ?
  2. I'm not assuming all these reports are 100% accurate. However if he thinks his health depends on maintaining his SP schedule maybe he could file a grievance that the team is jeopardizing his health . Are you saying Crochet shouldn't be allowed a voice in how he's used if he thinks he's being put in an unhealthy situation ?
  3. Eh we haven't heard from Crochet of his agent that Crochet won't pitch in the postseason if handled the way he wants to be handled. The Dodgers don't need him to be a closer to win their division most likely. But I do think they could use him as an opener , keep him on his SP schedule and see if that's enough rest for him to use him as a SP who can go at least 5 strong innings as a 2 or 3 in the playoffs without an extension. It's a longshot but it all depends on the way his arm feels. He' d have to be more than an opener his last couple starts of the regular season and see how it goes.
  4. And you called me naive for thinking Crochet had a good chance not to be traded because you thought Nightengale was right. The chances always were always slim Crochet would be traded . You didn't need to be an insider to know that. It was going to be a tall task given the ask and his availability being limited for the rest of the season and the playoffs.
  5. This was known for a long time. It's no surprise. Him wanting to stay on a SP regular schedule isn't new news. Sure the Sox are a terrible organization but Crochet hasn't put up the numbers he has this year all on his own. Katz, Bannister and Crochet worked on new things to allow him to be in the position he's in now. I wouldn't want to f*** that up either now that he found somethings that makes him great.
  6. Whole other situation. I hated how they handled Rodon in 2021. But I was on my own more or less. They used him up . They needed him that season. They wouldn't have made the playoffs if not for him being resigned for a pittance. Most posters thought he was hurt .I kept telling them he was just worn out. And then I bitched that they wore him out since then . And I also advocated giving him the QO to get a draft pick but Sox were afraid to pay him $18M . A lot of posters agreed with the Sox not to give the QO . Imagine that in the middle of the contention window fans were worried about 1 more year for a guy who just pitched you into the playoffs after he just gave you $18M worth for $3M. Let's save Jerry's money for something better ! It worked out great for Rodon financially. Sox spiraled downhill since the 2nd half of 2021 .
  7. He won't refuse to pitch. Hell pitch if he feels good. But he's only likely to feel good if his usage is curtailed in the 2nd half enough to allow him to pitch in the playoffs. It's always been a crapshoot to acquire him and expect much more out of him. It's why I never thought he'd be traded by the deadline. He still may be but it's looking worse day by day. I'll still go with the Dodgers if he is traded.
  8. And if those wins prevent the Rangers from putting their guys on the trade market it's win win . Or in the Sox case lose win. Less players on trade market = more suitors for Sox players.
  9. IF you believe the reports about him wanting an extension to pitch in the postseason. Yankees or some other team could be putting a narrative out there to make try to make it easier to acquire him. I doubt the Dodgers will be dissuaded. They might be the one team who could limit his use the rest of the season and still win their division and use him in the playoffs.
  10. I think the Sox look like geniuses right now.Katz and Bannister developed Crochet into the pitcher he is now by limiting his sweeper /slider usage to RHB because it was getting hit for HRs and his command wasn't strong with it and worked on the cutter with him and he had much better command of it and was much more effective against RHB . I don't really see anything wrong with a token extension offer. There's no guarantee he'll be the same pitcher in 2027 he is now. He still has a lot to prove. If another team wants to extend him then trade for him, extend him and we'll all get to see how wise it was.
  11. Who's malpracticing ? Don't get it. It just seems like that's the way it is. You either pony up the prospects and you have a choice , try to extend him or wait. Either way you still have 2024 to figure out a way to get him to pitch in the postseason and 2 more years to possibly help you reach the postseason and pitch in it. Dodgers just seem like the team who can make the playoffs without Crochet being a key contributor the rest of the season. Now the question is who might the Sox want from the Dodgers 26 to make the trade ? If the impact on the 26 is minimal I think it'll be the Dodgers. So probably no Gavin Stone or Lux if the Sox had designs on either .
  12. No he's worth what someone is willing to pay him . They can either wait till 2027 when he's a free agent or pay him now . There's no reason to pay him now after you trade for him unless you think a guy with his health record and 65% of 1 season as a SP is reason enough to justify the years and money you are offering.
  13. Even riskier for the new team to give up prospects , give him an extension and then risk it all in one post season. Youre risking your prospect capital , the health of the guy you just gave up prospects for and $100M or so in the extension. We really don't know what Crochet would want in an extension. Anyone dealing with him would be wise to wait. Crochet still has to prove he's healthy and TOR guy for 2 more years. Maybe only the Dodgers would be willing to trade for him now. They might be the only team who keeps him on a starter's schedule, use him as an opener ,then asks him to ramp up for a start or 2 heading into the playoffs. If Crochet is healthy and feeling fine I think he'd pitch in the post season without more money. He's a competitor and would want a shot at a ring.
  14. What makes you think Heyman knows the plan ? What we should be asking ourselves is was that 74 pitch outing yesterday because of protecting him for a trade or a new pitch limit to lower his usage in the event he isn't traded. We may never know.
  15. Thats been brought up before. It isn't new.I t was dumb then and it's dumb now. They're basically saying Crochet ,if he makes it to the post season healthy ,will refuse to pitch unless he gets an extension. How could they even know that. Can they talk to Crochet's agent ? Also why would the team trading for him want a physically max out at that point, pitcher risking his health in the post seaon when he's still got 2 more years ? They're saying Crochet would be willing to jeopardize his whole career i he got an extension , a big one presumably. That would be a huge financial risk for 1 post season from a guy who may not physically be up to it.
  16. This is also a great read. A lot of it is a repeat from the video but what it has that the video doesnt is Bannister's insight on 3rd round pick Blake Larson, 11th round pick Blake Shepardson and 17th round pick and 2 way player Lyle Miller-Green.
  17. If you ever want to educate yourself on pitcher development and how the Sox are handling Crochet, Cannon, Schultz,Kopech and other pitchers , this is a great listen. Crochet made some crucial changes this year working with Katz and Bannister. This was posted earlier as part of a larger video. This it the exact interview from beginning to end without having to find it in the longer video.
  18. You just acted like you found it hard to believe others can be optimistic. Also just for the record I'm not optimistic. I've said a few times that JR must be up to something to be crying so poor on the Sox. I'm no expert in high end real estate deals but to my untrained eye it appears JR has been robbing Peter ( The Sox) to pay Paul ( West Side Development plan around the UC. I'm also not a masochist. I can watch bad players be bad players and not act like I expected them to be anything but bad.
  19. So you're saying you can't believe people are all different and some don't think the White Sox are worth being upset about ? Life's a lot more enjoyable when you're not a grumpy old man in your 30s already.
  20. I knew it . I've been saying JR is up to something and that's why he's skimping on the Sox. Wirtz's better watch their backs.
