  1. I'm not upset about Sosa at all. He's just been behind in almost every count. Once he can get ahead in a few counts he'd be fine. Worst thing you can do as a rookie hitter is constantly be behind 0-2, 1-2. Impatience is not a key to success.
  2. He was quoted as saying recently “Everybody knows I’m an everyday player. So doing this, (reduced playing time) it’s not fun for me,” Andrus said. “Of course I’m upset, I’m pissed about it. But like I said, the best I can do is stay positive and wait for my turn and be ready whatever happens.” https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/elvis-andrus-frustrated-by-reduced-playing-time.html
  3. Ha had to make me work. Figures when I don't read the whole thread it always comes back to bite me. I was too busy thinking he would be a legit pickup and checking his stats instead of reading the thread. Since July 17 he's 21 for 73 which is .288 and also has a 1.6 fWar on the season. Plus Elvis Night is on Aug.26 at home so sounds perfect !
  4. What makes you think he's going to be released ?
  5. All that is why I want Colas up and give Sosa AB's. He can't keep getting behind in counts all the time. When he starts getting ahead in some of them I expect better results. He may not look ready but he's up here and has power.
  6. Oh by the way Colas hit his 10th HR in right around 89 AB's tonight for Birmingham.
  7. Yoan Moncada drove in the go ahead run in the 8th inning with a single to CF just as he did last night ! Gavin Sheets provided the big pinch hit double the drove in 2 to tie it up ! Liam gets his 18th straight save ! 5 in a row and 7 in a row at home !
  8. Funny how we have the opposite opinion on burning service time. If the Sox aren't going anywhere why does service time matter? Are you thinking that in that extra year they will be going somewhere ? There is a real chance if brought up this year he can be a major contributor for the stretch run of this season and also in the playoffs. You know the need already for some LH savagery on the Sox. I'd like to see an effort put into winning this year. All the rest of Cola's time the Sox might not even get to the playoffs so what good is Colas going to do on those teams ? The Sox might go somewhere if Cola's is on the Sox in 2022. Maybe they don't go anywhere with him too but I'd sure like to find out if he can be a difference maker now.
  9. The health thing is just so weird to me. I get that player get injuries on the field and some are more likely for that to happen if they are injury prone or keep getting the injuries in places they have been vulnerable in the past. What I don't get is why post Covid everyone acts like things are back to the way it was pre-Covid ? I'm no expert on Covid but "rebound Covid", "long Covid" and the sub-variants are all problems. Maybe the viruses going around the Sox clubhouse which infected Giolito, Robert and Kelly to varying degrees all have to do with once having had Covid. There is no such thing as a Secure Zone or a Bubble of protection . Gio has had Covid twice, Robert had it, Moncada had it. Not sure who else has had Covid. These guys are in close proximity to each other a lot, maybe dining or playing golf together, they interact with fans and hotel staffs and team staff of all kinds. Viruses that cause weakness to players and cause them to miss games are still a problem. It wouldn't be a terrible idea for the medical staff to suggest that wearing a mask will keep you healthier now just as it did during Covid and would have also before Covid was even a thing. It might sound paranoid to suggest wearing masks but let's face it , contact with other humans who have viruses causes you to be sick. Colds, flu , strep throat, sharing the same straw , can or bottle, physical contact ,touching something a sick person touched are all ways to lose players during the season. Infectious and contagious diseases need to be taken more seriously by everyone. Belittling the effects or aftereffects of Covid shouldn't be a thing. If you want to be a healthier human, at least wear a mask as often as you can. Since we are social animals it makes sense to take precautions and be mindful of preventive measures when not in intimate situations.
  10. I think we would have to go and rehash what exactly was said by who. Keuchel talked a lot. Can't remember if he ever questioned work ethic. Plus comments about lack of fire from Cueto may just be character traits in some people. But in sports you're supposed to be passionate and when around a bunch of guys screaming and yelling and showing fire even quiet people can get caught up in it. So if Cueto thinks he isn't seeing enough of it that says something about the team as a whole because once that fire is burning it's infectious. There's something to be said about being a quiet professional who just goes about his business and getting the job done. However, sports isn't like that. The old days are over about showboating , showing passion or playing like an automaton. But even in the old days coaches and players fire up their teams with rah rah speeches, raised voices about kicking ass and all that. Giolito also said Cueto made some good points in a recent Podcast with Garfien.
  11. Recent NBC sports Chicago podcast with Lucas and Garfien Lucas mentioned Cueto made some good points about the lack of fire. Also Giolito had a 2nd bout with Covid and says it wasn't bad at all but post Covid got a nasty virus that he said was 100X worse and he pitched through it. Seems like his off year , as is usually the case, is more about health than anything. Of course we can say those are excuses and the sticky stuff ban or the weight gain could be reasons. Maybe that virus is the one that sidelined Robert and recently gave Kelly "lightheadedness" . I think the upper body strength Lucas added was just him as a ballplayer preparing for the grind since many players end the season weighing less than when they started it. These guys are all in close proximity to each other every day and perhaps they should all consider wearing masks all the time around each other. Masks are a good idea for keeping healthy in general for preventing colds and other viruses along with the other preventive measures we were all reminded of during Covid like washing hands frequently . I'll leave it up to the medical experts to say if Covid can weaken the immune system post Covid but masks are actually something that, while inconvenient, will keep you healthier in general especially when you are around a bunch of people all the time who aren't wearing masks and who have had Covid and may have weakened immune systems post Covid and more susceptible to other viruses.
  12. The couldn't stick with the Sox comment Dick made is also inaccurate. The Sox couldn't carry 3 catchers so either McGuire or Zavala had to go because both were out of options so one of them would've had to been DFA'd. McGuire was probably worth more in a trade than Zavala because of his defense but since he hit LH and Grandal was staying no matter what to get the LH catcher AB's , McGuire was the one traded. Hahn actually did well to get a useful BP piece for him.
  13. You got a like for me not only for your post, but because you didn't think starting the thread late early was a jinx when the last few late posted threads got the Sox wins like the superstition/jinx with the banner.
  14. Not haters just vastly lowered expectations . We're all here because we love the Sox. We just don't like all the bad stuff that's derailed the rebuild.
  15. 4 in a row , 6 in a row at home. Big double by Eloy down 0-2 to tie up. Moncada delivers a knock to drive in the 2nd 2 . 4 run rally started with 2 outs. Cueto goes 8 sparkling innings. Liam with the tightrope walk save.
  16. For a guy who knows his stats you should know Sheets performs as good as any guy on the roster at home offensively. Terrible defensive all around and offensively on the road he sucks too. But citing WAR when he's at home isn't great. However I'd be the 1st one to send him down if you bring up Colas.
  17. On every 2 strike count in his career he's been terrible . Even on 3-2 his slugging is only .356. The 0-2, 1-2 counts I understand most hitters suck but when you get to 2-2 and 3-2 it should be better than he is.
  18. If the rest of the Sox were living up to their billings Zavala isn't a big deal .Not sure why you would mention him. He's a AAAA back up catcher.
  19. For sure but do you think it's got any better since he left in light of the Cueto and McGuire comments ?
  20. The Sox are like a guy who knows he stepped into a big pile of shit and just shrugs and walks around the house wearing the same shoes. Houston is going to stomp them into oblivion !
