  1. Again ? Didn't they face Rogers in his 1st rehab start ? Colas hit him then.
  2. I'm no expert and I'm not sure there is one on this site for how all MLB teams develop their hitters . That's a vast amount of knowledge. But since he is with the Sox, talent wins out over development usually . I think all hitters tinker to some degree but I mean there's vast amounts of knowledge for hitters to consume in books from Ted Williams and many others .Frank Thomas just let his hitting do all the talking and he could've probably been brought up sooner than he was. He never missed a beat. I think it's always best to say, given our ignorance, that while it appears the Sox don't do everything they can, due to Jerry skimping on player development and many other areas, that if the Sox are so bad, get him in AAA asap and if he keeps mashing for 2 weeks bring him up. They won't follow my timeline but it's impossible to say if a hitter just wasn't talented enough or if it was coaches who screwed then up. I think most players who fail blame themselves because they are the ones ultimately in charge of what feels best to them.
  3. Had an interesting find at a Goodwill near me. Tenacious D The Complete Master Works on DVD but the kicker is that it looks like it was autographed by Jack Black and Kyle Gass on the front artwork under each of their pictures with a silver paint pen .
  4. No such thing as momentum against the Kitties. They weren't exactly kicking their asses. If the Sox can call up Colas for the games against Houston and Guardians I think a lot more of us tune in . But I'm 95% sure the Sox won't do it.
  5. I understand but plenty of hitters succeed at younger going on 24 in a month. I know we haven't seen him in the minors long and it sucks he's missed so much time but that's the way it happened.
  6. But if he gets right which is what we are all hoping , he should return to normal hitting RHP better. Either that oblique is still bothering him or its in his head and he's afraid to turn it loose.
  7. All well and good however what are we saving him for ? Every year of the rebuild the team gets worse and worse. If the Sox can make the playoffs this year they might need Colas to do it. With the guys in charge there's no guarantee the Sox reach the playoffs at all in Cola's tenure with the Sox. He can hit lefties and righties so there's no built in disadvantage to playing him every day and most of his power comes against RHP so that fits the bill nicely. Good players become great when they are in the playoffs all the time and can become legends. If you can't perform with a minor spotlight on you in Chicago , how are you going to do it in the playoffs or World Series ? All I know is he is better than the guys playing the field and batting right now. If there's going to be some adjustment period let him get it over with now. Sosa may not have been ready but so what ? He's learning on the job. That's a newbie and a rookie for you. He had one good game and he's very capable of more. Play Colas against the Astros and Guardians . Everyone is expecting the Sox to get their asses kicked but how cool would it be to win a lot of those games with Colas in the lineup ? It might change some minds about the Sox chances in the playoffs.
  8. You never deserve the big bucks unless you can hit. There have been plenty of guys in MLB history who were fielding wizards whose careers were short because of weak bats. WAR inflates defense and walks inflate OPS and other offensive stats including WAR. Perfect example is Heyward. He was basically done being a very good player after his age 25 season. These stats guys want to know if you are good offensively? Eliminate walks from the stats and then see how good they are. While the modern day statisticians say RBI's are over rated , they are actually under rated. The guys who drive in the runs are driving in the guys who walk. Walks are very helpful , singles even more helpful, but give me guys who can clear the bases with extra base hits. I want a stat that tells me who is finding the gaps and the corners and hitting the ball over the fence compared to the others . Some stats that involves AB's only with number of hits and total bases from those hits. Throw in some hard hit percentages, exit velo and barrel rates to eliminate some of the luck involved with bloop doubles. Video studies too with how often those extra base hits reach the walls in the corners and gap. Those bring home more runners then a ball in the gap that turns into a double but the fielder cuts it off so a guy on 1st might not score unless it gets to the wall.
  9. In the Japanese majors . Limited time of course but he didn't suck and those who do not suck over a longer period of time in Japan come to MLB and some even do well. Normally it's the bigger + talented Japanese players but Colas is not small in stature. Plenty of Japanese player would have good careers in MLB. It's just very hard for them to uproot their lives and often they are tied to their team for many years. Colas had to really make a stink to get out of his commitment to his Japanese team then missed a lot of time because of that and then waiting for when MLB could draft him internationally. For a guy who hasn't played in a while and again a stranger in a strange land he has done remarkably well.
  10. Lucas settled down after a rough 1st 3 inning with some bad LF defense by Eloy to pitch 7 innings w/ 7 K's. Rey and Liam finished it off. Pollock added a late HR for an insurance run.
  11. That was a lift and pull pitch to Eloy that he grounded out on.
  12. Jose was hitting like .350 for 2 straight months after the 1st Jose is through thread to get his batting average up to about .305. Now he's in a little hitting slump. Maybe his BA has dropped 10 points but he's missing a decent amount of RBI chances.
  13. I'll take a hit and walk. But might need another hit from him later but I won't be too upset if he' doesn't get it.
  14. Decent things happen when u mix in a walk with the singles. Now try an extra base hit !
  15. Then he recovers and everyone blames Hahn for giving a guy away and forgets that you suggested it
  16. SO non tender him and don't give him a chance to be a solid #3 again ? That's giving him away.No way in hell the Sox do that.
  17. LOL too many people here eat their young. He's had an ERA under 3.50 , 3 years in a row then this year. Not great but certainly not terrible . Those 3 years are actually a very solid #3 guy.
