I know what I have outlined is a long shot. I mean a really long shot. It depends on a bunch of guys having better 2nd halves and also on 4 acquisitions + Colas + Lynn and Gio that also perform well in the 2nd half. Not only that but the acquisitions that I want ! LOL who the hell knows what acquisitions Hahn actually makes. but I just don't see things getting better after this year. The Sox already have too many payrolls commitments with arb raises coming and still needing starting pitching when Cueto leaves.

Abreu old and counted out so often but yet he's still the best hitter on the team. Lynn, one of the really nice trades Hahn has made but now in the doghouse because he hasn't had a miraculous rebound from his time off. Hendriks is a great closer. Trade Lynn, Cueto leaves . Giolito leaves after next year. What are you getting back for these guys ? JR doesn't pay for top of the line pitching. Lynn cost 1 prospect and made less than $10M when the Sox got him . Cueto cost $3.32 M. Gio, Kopech and Cease came in rebuild trades so if you're only trading old guys and not cost controlled younger vets where is the top of the line pitching coming from ? The core ? Keep the core of who among the position players ? Robert great , Eloy , good luck with that, Moncada ,he hasn't been much help this year so far. Hopefully he can turn it around for a long time. Vaughn great, you really think the Sox trade Abreu ? Which contender needs a 1st baseman ? Which terrible teams want to give up youth for a guy his age ? Hendriks sure all contenders can use him but what' the return going to look like ? MLB ready or low minors guys ? Yay more prospects who won't immediately help and you're going to need immediately help without any starting pitcher and without a closer. Plus after you do all this how in the hell do you expect to contend ? That's the point isn't it ,to contend , to make the playoffs? We're already .500 with the core and you're taking away the best older guys for I don't know what kind of return you're expecting . What prospects in the minors do you see as contributors soon enough to help the core you're keeping and leaving without any starting pitching and no closer ? Sounds like a less than .500 team to me. Sounds like a mini rebuild that'll just make the team worse but great the farm will be ranked from 25th or so now to what, 20th after these moves ? Might as well go full rebuild again if that's the plan. You can't fix the team in 2 sentences . Sure it's that easy to rid yourself of veterans for a "Premium" return to extend the window . That's super vague and doesn't even work as a theory. Reform the team ? Love that . Please you have to do better than that.

That's the whole point. If not this season when ? Do you think it's going to get better next year ? The year after ? This might be it for a while. I'll tell you what I see. I see a team that lost a lot of time to injury and some miserable decisions by the front office since the trade deadline last year. Eloy as usual hurts the most. Supposed to be a big bat ,has been a big disappointment and his absence has ruined the offense. But he is healthy now. Time to put on his big boy pants. I don't really want to see Vaughn on the bench very often but DH is the only place for him but if we don't get a LF I guess that's where to alternate him and Vaughn DH/LF. It's either that or find a way to trade him, Vaughn or Pollock and I'd really like to keep Vaughn. Moncada , another guy whose injuries and performance have killed the offense. But now he looks healthy. A good 2nd half from him goes a long way to helping the team balance the lineup .It's not asking too much of Yoyo to hit as many HR's as Jake Burger is it ? He's been good for the last 2 weeks, just stay that way. Grandal another dismal 1st half. But he's back to add more LH punch . Since coming back hitting .421, 8/19 and 1 walk in 5 games. The HR stroke can't be too far behind right ? I'd like to see Yas tie Sheets for HR's on the season with 7. Gotta hit 5 Yas. Pollock, 3.1 fWar last year. 2nd best offensive season of his career at age 33. Bam comes to the Sox at age 34 and puts up the worst offensive numbers of his whole career. Here's another guy who should have a strong 2nd half. He has had some late clutch hits for the Sox but still need him hitting and getting on base more. Those are 4 pretty good players who really should rebound from nothing 1st halves to pretty good 2nd halves. They all have played a big part in how bad the offense has been. If Hahn can manage not to screw up, add some LH/SH OF help like Happ and assume he doesn't bomb that's a big improvement over Sheets in RF . But he's not really a RF he belongs in LF . So who is going to play RF ? Oscar Colas. Yea I know . Impossible, too raw, not ready. He's more than ready defensively. Big arm, decent speed. Put him next to Robert and put Happ in LF and now we're talking. He's almost 24, already older than Juan Soto, so I'm not worried about his clock starting. Put him around some of his fellow Cubans and see what happens. You're not going to ruin him letting him face MLB pitching. It didn't ruin Vaughn. He'll have Cuban familia around him. People on here talk about Gallo because he can play defense and hit bombs even if he bats less than .200. If people are willing just to get that, then they should be willing to accept Colas. Bring him up Sept 12th and plug him in and see what happens. Of course there's still TLR to contend with but tell him to play him every day. It's only to the end of the season if he's brought up in Sept. Joey Wendle . 32 yrs old multi position player LH .Mutual option for 2023. Get him to be the strong side of a platoon with Harrison. 110 career wRC+ against RHP 116 this year. He isn't a detriment in the field at 2nd base but probably a bit below Harrison. This post is probably too long already but Mr. Wegner asked me what I see , so I won't get into pitching, but a lefty starter and BP piece can be found if someone takes Eloy or use other minor league pieces not named Montgomery and Colas. We'd still have Pollock, Vaughn, Colas , Robert , Engel and Happ (hopefully) for the OF/DH. What I also see is more .500 baseball for many years ahead from next year on if changes aren't made so why not see if some of those changes can work this year ? Ether way we still have to rely on Hahn to fix the mess that he and injuries have created.

I didn't even know Robert had a rehab assignment.

Seby and Adolfo !

Luck is all we have. We don't have a well managed roster or those nice things. Not our fault. Can't win the lottery without a ticket so if all I'm left with is hoping to win the lottery I'll go with that.
-
ARe you giving up or not? Playing both sides of the fence so you can claim you were right either way ?
-
There's a lot worse things to be afraid of. Like the usual White Sox way of never making the playoffs but hey we'll still have Colas ,Vera and Monty. I'm sure they will be healthier and more entertaining on losing teams than Eloy Moncada Grandal and Leury are.I am so looking forward to losing year after year again.

If you don't condone rebuilding again then people have to take a stance. You either trust that Hahn can use some pieces to get a few LHH who can play who aren't ancient, nab some kind of starting pitcher and a relief pitcher and with some better performances by Eloy, Grandal and Moncada and improved lineup you take your shot this year. Or you say Hahn sucks , the whole organization sucks try again next year and move closer to oblivion than we are now by keeping all these wonderful prospects in a bottom 5 system with all the departed pitching and the same guys running the show who couldn't come close to doing the rebuild like the Astros and Cubs did. I don't care how disappointing the team has been. There are enough pieces and the division is crappy enough to win and I'll take my chances with Hahn, some 2nd half rebounds and make the playoffs for maybe the last time in a while. I don't think Minnesota is going to stand pat even though their odds of winning a World Series are probably close to the same as ours. Fuck the Twins I'm not going give up and let them win the division. So I'm disappointed and not entertained , I still think they can win the division They were 8-3 in their last 11 and on their way to 9 of 12 when the game against the Rockies fell apart. A few tweaks, a little health a few guys turning bad halves into good 2nd halves, you're right back to winning baseball. Every prospect not named Colas and Montgomery should be made available and if that's not enough so be it. Too many people around here say ,so what win the division, we suck and can't win the World Series anyway. I'm only going to be disappointed again. So what ! That's life as a fan of an organization that sucks. When did everyone turn into Parkman ? We got 1 World Series win in over 100 years, Duh chances are every year we're not going to win the World Series yet we tune in year after year rooting for it. Grow up, either cheer for this team to win despite the odds or just pick the favorite to win in the playoffs every year and when they lose, pick another team so you're not disappointed and as entertained as can be.

Yea I guess I just don't care . I am well aware of potential returns. What's he worth healthy anyway as a DH? Trade him now before another year makes him even more worthless and let some other team gamble on his upside Some of these guys who can only DH have to be moved and I'd rather Vaughn be the DH because he can stay healthy. Just ride Abreu out until Vaughn can take over 1st base. SO the master plan is to fire the whole staff and Eloy lets new magic hands heal his GB rate and his body. Come on now.
-
Exactly the opposite from me .Hold onto him for what ? Get injured 4 more times in the next 2 years ? Butcher balls in the OF ? Collide with Robert ? Trip over a base ? Injure himself saying Hi Mom ? If you can't dump Eloy who can you dump ? We can find reasons not to dump anyone. Just because he may hit 35 HR one year when he manages not to break himself ?

Nah every team is sweating out the other ones. If you have free agents pending you move them for something or you keep them and gain nothing. Highest last minute bid gets whoever it is. Teams asking for the moon with multi year guys like Happ,Castillo, Montas got teams who want them. They wait, they're daring the teams to hold onto the player and run the risk injury and gain or next to nothing next year. Teams holding those guys say Ok I guess you don't want to win bad enough. Basically 100% of the board is going to be upset one way or another. Do nothing upset , do something upset. We whine about the team screwing up this window but no one wants to give them a chance to fix it. The fan base is terrified, Afraid the team is too stupid to make a smart trade. What I hear mostly is do nothing ever, 3rd place in this crap division or lower is fine for the next 10 years as long as we keep our prospects, like this is the fucking rebuild again.
-
Thank you Cueto might regress, Giolito has regressed.Lynn has regressed, Kopech is tiring. As of right now if we had to play the Astro's Perez is my#2 after Cease. He is going to be a free agent and the only way the Rangers keep him is if they think they can compete , not likely. Plus he's not like some expensive piece like Kimbrel. Ranges paid him $4M so less than half of that to get him plus. whoever in prospects . The great prospects in a bottom 5 system who are somehow going to win us future pennants and be better than the talent we have now. Hello Mediocrity My Old Friend !
-
I get the feeling you think minor leaguers are worth more than an All STar pitcher who gets guys on the freakin' astro's out with like 1 run in 14 innings. What the heck do you want to make you happy ? Is last place in 2025 a goal because that's where the Sox are headed . Tell me what he's worth and lets see if hes traded and how much TX. gets ?
-
There's 2 guys on the farm worth not moving Colas and Montgomery the rest are trade bait. Is there really going to wailing and gnashing of teeth over most of these prospect whose chance of becoming "dudes " in MLB are practically zilch when the whole system is near the bottom now all of a sudden these guys got worth ? ARe we saving them for the cellar dwelling teams after 2025 ?
-
I don't give a damn about Vera they just drafted a shit ton of pitchers. Keep Colas and Monty sure and pitching is fine. I prefer Martin Perez since he's got the Astro's number and is a rental but maybe they want multiple years. But io also still want Happ and Wendle the lineup needs LHH badly. Getting more pitching isn't going to help this team score more runs or hit more HR's
-
So JR and Hahn and company admit they fucked everything up Fire TLR and retool. Ha good luck with that. I'll take my chances they can make an impact at the trade deadline and have a vastly improved LHH lineup with Wendle, Happ and Colas and the new and improved Moncada and Grandal.

I know you somehow think the Sox can keep making the playoffs beyond 2023 but they are barely in contention for the playoff now in a weak division and have been playing .500 for a year.. So excuse me if I think the best opportunity is to win now or in 2023. If you're happy with .500 for the next 5+ years no skin off my nose .
