  1. I would imagine that his little sign of frustration is mostly forgotten now. Colas hasn't let it slow him down that's for sure.
  2. I've been saying that about the NPB and that was 3 years ago when he was 20. If Colas truly did throw a bit of a hissy fit in a tweet close to a month ago it's understandable. He probably was thinking he's close to MLB ready , they barely use him any Spring training games, then they stick him in A ball. I'm not saying that was the wrong call, after all ,he had a lot of inactivity to shake off. Then the wrist thing and the rust kept his stats good+ but not great But if what we are seeing now is the real deal after getting some hitting advice on how to turn on the inner half pitches while still being able to go the opposite way too, hee could be a huge asset going forward and quicker than most thought originally based on him starting in W-S.
  3. Sure thing ! I call it the H & H Express. Hype and Hope. All aboard !
  4. Well I wasn't against trading him in a Sosa or Reynold's deal but that seems unlikely. Hahn won't give him up for Happ (fingers crossed). A few days ago I was on the hype train for him being on the Sox early next year after 6 games in AA with the 1.417 OPS . Then he went 0/4 and the next game 4/5 with 2 more HR's to somehow raise that 1.417 OPS to 1.470. Now I'm the engineer on the hype train thinking he should be called up Set.12 if they can find a way to grab Happ and Wendle and Robert's issue isn't long term and if Colas can continue to rake in AA and get some AB's in AAA.
  5. Oh I know he's hardly played any RF and none this year but having also played some CF think he'd be fine in RF for a month. My plan was to move him back to LF anyway after Colas is brought up Sept 12.
  6. That would be cool if Jazz can come back this year too.
  7. He also has a gun for an arm. He's really a prototypical high quality offensive and defensive player with 5 tools . Maybe not the speed to make him above average in CF but it does seem like his OF instincts are good. He was in CF in the Future game and made a nice diving catch coming in and going to his left. Also went 1 for 2 with both AB's off LH pitchers and considered Future Stars because they were selected to play in that game. I haven't looked that up and would have to check the box score or find some video to confirm who the pitchers were.
  8. I agree Moncada has rebounded but I need a longer sample size but regardless he still has to be in the lineup everyday. I'd like to see Moncada and Grandal rebound to the point they both can match or exceed the HR total of Jake Burger (8). While some may consider that being rushed. I don't really think of it that way. Colas wasn't your typical player in A ball. He was 23 yrs old and got a cup of coffee in Japan's MLB. Some consider that around AA+ or AAA and that was when he was 20. Once he shook off the rust and got over a wrist injury he took off.
  9. My plan is totally a long shot but here it is. Happ and Joey Wendle, Happ can play RF and Wendle strong side of a platoon with Harrison. If Colas continues to mash after a AAA promotion bring him up for the stretch run starting Sept 12 and put him in RF and Happ back in LF. Some how snag Martin Perez for the starting rotation and Matt Moore LHRP. Now instead of Leury, SHeets, McGuire and bad Moncada/Grandal as our LHH we get Happ, Wendle, Colas, and good Moncada/Grandal. Much better hitting against RHP , better defense, lineup balance and power . I have no idea how you get Happ and Perez. Definitely would lose some guys from the system but surely not Colas or Motgomery. I don't know how to resolve the Eloy/Vaughn/ Abreu Conundrum. If the Cubs would take Vaughn then I want more than Happ from them and Eloy becomes the DH. If Robert has something seriously wrong with him I don't do any of this.
  10. When I use the term Sox Gonna Sox it usually means something stupid and negative and I don't think bringing up Colas fits in the Sox Gonna Sox stupid and negative category. As I outlined above if they somehow manage to get Happ and Wendle and Moncada and Grandal rebound, adding Colas transforms the Sox into a much better team against RHP. It's a longshot but if those things happen, my hopes get raised considerably.
  11. Yes he would , everything in MLB is built around the east coast teams and TV Networks are all based in NY or Connecticut. ESPN and MLB Network salivate over all things Yankees and Red Sox. Rightfully so with the Yankees with their history of winning and Judge's 38 HR's so far which is 5 more than the top 3 Sox HR hitters . Our 4th and 5th HR hitters are guys who will hardly play down the stretch run if the Sox make some trades (Burger 8, Sheet's 7)
  12. All acquisition are done by committee including JR.
  13. I said this a few days ago that if he can keep it up through a month or so at AA and then spend the rest of the season in AAA which finishes Sept 28. Then make an early season debut with the Sox. Then I looked at the Sox schedule. If we assume the Sox will still be in the hunt, starting Sept 20th the Sox have 3 games with the Guardians, Tigers, Twins , Padres and then Twins again to finish off the season. Now I'm thinking maybe call him up before Sept 20th to get him acclimated for a week like the off day Sept 12th for a 2 game series against the Rockies at home and the Tigers on the road. Then we hit the stretch run from Sept 20th to the end of the season. Would be great to have him in the lineup against all those Guardian RHP along with our trade deadline acquisitions Wendle, Happ and maybe revitalized Moncada and Grandal. Instead of McGuire, Leury, Sheets and bad Moncada and Grandal now we get Colas, Happ, Wendle and the Moncada, Grandal good versions. Now that's a lot better lineup balance,OF defense and much better offensive team. If the Sox manage to get Happ he can be moved back to LF. If Robert is OK he'll be in CF and just let Colas start in RF. Long odds of that happening but ... one can dream.
  14. We (fans)have to be focused on winning the Central because that's where it starts. We have no control over what the Sox do to get the team beyond that point. We've all seen enough baseball where teams make second half runs after things look hopeless. I don't put a lot of faith in the FO to make competent winning moves but what choice do I have ? I either hope for a rebound fueled by some trades that finally work, better health and players playing to their potential or give up. If i wanted to fold up my fan tent I wouldn't be in Tradewinds suggesting so many ways for Hahn to fix things when I know the FO is to blame for not knowing how to win or blatantly not caring enough about winning. Logically I don't see anything but a glimmer of hope that the Sox can even make it passed the 1st playoff series they're in, if they manage to be in one this year. But logic also tells me that people keep buying lottery tickets hoping for the illogical to happen. That's my fandom in a nutshell as I rage against the dying of the light and sinking into the muck of mediocrity once more.
  15. Doesn't exactly sound like you're hoping for the best while expecting a payroll cut. Sounds like your hoping to be extending the current and future mired in mediocrity created by an inept front office so you can be Grand Marshall in the "I told you there was no hope" parade.
  16. It has regressed dramatically with a mind boggling series of moves started by "dangling the carrot", JR. Throw in regression and injuries to the core , last years trade deadline and the off season moves. The FO is way dumber than the players are. Let that sink in .Leury doesn't even belong on a championship team but is rewarded with a 3 year contract because he managed to get 1.8 fWar in 474 PA playing on an injury riddled team last year. Once again he's headed for just as many PA this year only now he's got a -0.9 fWar.
  17. That's the one where Muncy hit the HR right after. "Most lipreaders felt Muncy said something along the lines of: “f—ing walk him with two strikes. F— you, b–ch!” https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/video-max-muncy-profane-message-white-sox-home-run/598527
  18. Do not go gentle into that good night, Sox fandom should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
  19. No it's not the point. The point was and it remains to win a championship. The future is going to be bad once the window closes but while the chance to win a championship still remains I don't see the point of not doing everything possible to make it happen no matter how little faith I have in the FO to accomplish it. Just because everyone is joining your parade of doom and gloom there are those who continue to want to win. Now you feel bolder and empowered to preach your gospel of hopelessness. It's not going magically get better doing nothing. Even if it's rearranging the chairs on the Titanic it's better than sitting on your hands and crying about the impending death. People with serious illnesses do everything they can to live longer even if it prolongs the pain and suffering. The ones who give up die quicker.
  20. SoxTalk new threads are just like game threads. The more pissed off you are the longer the game thread. The more upset you are at team performance the more new threads pop up. If the Sox were rolling along the front page is filled with And That's A White Sox winner threads. Some times I just don't feel the need to b**** and moan and when I do I usually reserve it for management who sabotage and shorten the "multiple championships" window every damn chance they get. Some times I think that even if they tried to sabotage the window they couldn't have done this badly. SGS ,Sox Gonna Sox.
  21. While this may be true it's not the point. The point is to become better than you are now. You improve yourself in areas of need and with some health luck and 2nd half improvements from players who have under performed in the 1st half, which is almost always the case in baseball, you can put yourself in a much better position to compete this year and possibly next year with other acquisitions and some minor league guys stepping up. Unfortunately the men in charge have made a series of moves since the trade deadline of last year to throw up a roadblock to team success , squandered away money thinking relief pitching is the best way to compete all while ignoring roster construction, starting pitching depth, defense and lineup balance.
  22. This is where I just wonder what's all the fuss about him not catching the ball. Is it just people venting or am I seeing something they aren't or am I imagining things I want to because I don't want to blame the catcher because he has the shittiest glove to field throws of any player on the diamond while applying a tag and holding onto the ball all while he is kneeling down trying not to illegally block the plate which means he has to catch the ball out front and throw the tag backwards behind him all in one smooth motion. Or let the ball get deeper, closer to the runner and applying a tag before he really has the ball secured knowing full well if he does that the contact with the runner on the tag has a better chance of knocking the ball out. A catcher has to decide on a close play how quickly he has to get the tag on the runner in order to get him out. In a vacuum that was a nice long hop that had there not been a runner streaking towards the plate he would catch. He catches it ,the tag is late the runner is safe. He misses the ball because he's trying to speed up the process in order to tag him out ,which in this case, probably wouldn't have happened no matter what he did. Optically it looks bad. You don't catch the ball you can't tag the runner , the runner is safe , ball game over, you lose. Once you lose the reaction is going to be "catch the damn ball !" But the catcher knows better than anyone when the ball is late and the result will be that the runner scores. He is more than likely not catching the ball because he is trying to do the impossible which is get the ball and apply the tag before the runner can touch home. We see this a lot on stolen base attempts where the fielder may miss or drop a ball thrown by the catcher except those guys can block the base with no fear of getting run over by the runner because a runner stealing has to slow down enough not to slide off the base when a runner going home is full speed ahead . And they actually have gloves designed to catch ground balls unlike the catcher who has a glove designed to catch 100MPH pitches without hops from 60 ft 6 inches which is actually closer because of the long strides pitchers take before they release the ball. They do all this wearing equipment designed to protect them from these pitches. Playing catcher is the worst position to play in baseball and it's not even close. Every pitch there's a chance of getting banged up. The tools of ignorance, indeed.
