  1. Do you also stay at a Holiday Inn Express ?
  2. I'll be the oddball here since so many including myself love Montgomery but if he headlines a deal that gets the Sox Soto for 2.5 yrs., I'd be thrilled depending on who else goes. But no worries, odds of that happening are practically nil.
  3. Exactly. I've always thought with later picks that great fielders who are fast but the hit tool questionable should be taken more. It's just harder to teach an iron glove to field better than it is to teach a highly athletic guy a few things he could try to improve his hitting, especially a guy like Sprinkle who was hitting well but then fell apart. Cameletti probably won't be ranked in the Sox top 30 picks. Probably won't even get an honorable mention. As an 8th rd draft pick he's going to have to prove it on the field to get any notice unlike top picks who get more leeway in that regard. Any hype you see now in the thread is just some guys messing around or picking out a favorite based on looks or beard or how their attitude translates to video. With the Sox money pool for the draft they spent a lot of it in the 1st 6 rounds and rounds 7-10 are seniors or 5th year Seniors who will sign for very little and are even considered throw away picks where the Sox can save some money and then take chances on guys considered unsignable in the later rounds by throwing extra money at them. (Usually HS kids with firm college commitments or holding out for a certain amount of money)
  4. If anyone wants to see all the Sox picks of the 1st 10 rounds along with videos, tweets, how they were ranked coming in by various sources , instead of looking through the thread , here it is. https://www.soxon35th.com/2022-mlb-draft-all-white-sox-draft-picks/ That link will be updated with all other picks also.

  6. This. He's not cost controlled. Sox have plenty to get him if they wanted but one would definitely have to be Montgomery. After that who knows .
  7. Oscar Colas is about 3 months older than Soto so he isn't one of the 12 younger. 50 players selected for 2 squads for the Future Stars Game. 38 are older than Soto.
  8. I wish they would do stuff like that more often. Humble them right away or maybe it'll actually speed up a timeline drastically. If they get humbled they become more acceptable to change.
  9. Don't necessarily need a big name. Need a good young LH OF with speed and defense and some power. He could hit .200 like Suwinski from the Pirates or Jesus Sanchez from the Marlins as long as he hits some bombs off RHP and is above average with speed and defense . Trouble is bad teams are more likely to keep good young players as they continue to build. Pirates have to trade Reynolds sooner or later and Sox just have to convince them to do it sooner. 2021 Naquin would be good. Might be a prime candidate for a bounce back in the 2nd half. I'll vote him as most likely to end up on the Sox in the 2nd half. FA in 2023,down year , plays RF although not particularly well . Outside of his rookie year (2016) and 2021 hasn't played much and already 31. Nothing to get excited about. More Hahn type working along the fringes and giving up youth for it . You know they wouldn't take Pollock or Leury for him. Go big or go home .
  10. The good thing is we can have a healthy debate about it. If you want to use fWar as an indicator of overall performance which takes all facets of the game into account, the top three in the position players are Abreu (3.0), Robert (2.2) and TA (2.1)and TA has suffered for the last month and missed games while Robert has been hot for the last month making them fairly equal in fWAR. If you want to argue that speed is undervalued by fWar ( when you don't hit HR's speed and good base running is vitally important to the Sox) then you can give Anderson and Robert higher scores. Vaughn's value is in his hitting and that's about it until he can show some value at 1st base (fWar .7). If you want to just talk about hitting and not MVP, Abreu beats Vaughn in wRC+ 147 to 134. Most Valuable not most admired,. Who brings the most to the team, keeping all facets of the game in mind, and being on the field to use those skills and help the team most often.
  11. I figured I would be voting for Anderson or Robert but shaky defense is not limited to Abreu and really his defense isn't among the best in baseball but it's 1st baseman fine. For your 1st baseman to have more fWar than your key players in the middle of the diamond like Anderson and Robert tells you that his defense is fine. He could actually get more fWAR than his career high as a rookie of 5.3.
  12. You always make so much sense in any argument you make but this thing you have about NL players coming to the Sox has got to stop especially in trade deadline moves. The talent available is going to come from teams you aren't in direct competition with. Teams in your own division are likely out, other AL contenders are likely out. Doesn't leave many teams in the AL , Angels, Texas, A's , Tigers and KC probably .Orioles have really come together nicely once Rutschman was brought up. That kid is special behind the plate. Everyone in the AL East is in the wild card hunt. That mostly leaves the NL where you can trade with the Phillies, D'backs, Cubs, Marlins,Nationals, Reds and Rockies or find a guy not needed much on a contender and it won't matter since it's unlikely a trade would bite you in the ass because both teams getting to the World Series is unlikely. Maybe it's not the NL guys coming to the AL that makes them bad . Could be they were old or our scouts , GM and talent evaluators in general are bad. Lemahieu's done well since leaving Colorado and coming to the Yankees despite all the fuss about hitting in Colorado. When you deal for fringy type players you get fringy type results.
  13. If you expand the search to CF it gets a bit better and the fielders become better. Still there are too many among them who are RH. With Robert's troubles assuming he can come back relatively quickly moving him to RF might be the best idea and looking for a LH CF. With the Orioles looking better not sure if they would move Santander but him or someone like him looks like a good choice. Happ, Reynolds are options. David Peralta would be cheap most likely as a rental but he's strictly LF. Prefer younger anyway.D'backs have a lot of LH OF guys Alek Thomas , Daulton Varsho, Pavin Smith (1B/OF like Sheets so not likely an upgrade), Jake McCarthy ( no power). Blackmon is a rental but plays DH more than RF now, still a good hitter. Pirates Reynolds would be awesome . They also have Jake Suwinski really promising kid from Chicago (Taft HS). Already has 1.2 fWar despite hitting below .200. Having 14 HR's helps . Odubel Herrera doesn't move the needle much,no power , doesn't walk but capable of playing all OF positions Cole Calhoun . Bleh. Jesus Sanchez , 24 ,CF Marlins, big kid like Robert. Playing every day with the Marlins. Has the good physical tools but his approach not great. Wouldn't help Sox OBP but stick him in CF or RF against RHP and he'll hit some bombs and help a lot defensively . Say what you will about Menechino and Robert's stance, if Robert is listening to Menechino you can't really complain about the results. He shows flashes of superstardom, like for the last month. We'd all like him to hit 40 bombs and walk more, but I'd be thrilled with healthier versions of Robert and maybe Sanchez can become that. Doubtful Marlins part with him. The best targets have to be Reynolds, Santander,( not a good fielder) Happ (hasn't play RF at all this year) or target a young guy who might not be the Solution now. I love Colas but he has a ways to go . Maybe offer Colas for Suwinski or make him part of a Reynolds so yeah slim pickings. My advice: fast track Colas or trade him. He started lower in the minors than I thought he would. 3 yrs ago he got a cup of coffee at the highest level of Japanese ball unless someone tells me the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks aren't top level.
  14. Colas looked good in the Futures game 1 for 2 , both AB's against lefties and made a diving catch in CF. Quick bat.
  15. Sox 4th shut out since 7/1. Hendriks, Graveman, Lopez cooking in the pen. Banks , Ruiz, Lambert been good the last month. Cease, Cueto doing very well. Kopech wearing down a bit but a gamer,Needs rest . Giolito got his change up back for a few games and he looks better his last couple starts. Lynn still looks like spring training , hopefully he comes around. In the last week the Sox have 9 pitchers with a 0.00 ERA . All have pitched at least 2 innings. If you stretch it out to the last 15 days there are still 3 guys with a 0.00 ERA an 7 guys with at 0.48, 1.17, 1.35, 1.50, 1.80, 2.84, and 2.84 with a minimum of 4.2 innings pitch and 3 starters among the 7 ,Cueto, Cease and Giolito. Need Robert so bad I hope he's OK. His last 26 games was slashing .337, .364, .587, .951 with 8 doubles, 6 HR and 30 RBI. Sox now have 4 regulars in the lineup batting better than .300. Anderson, Vaughn Abreu, and Robert. Moncada had a real good week . Sheets had a terrible week right after looking good for 3 weeks. But if I had to choose 1 to get hot it would be Moncada. He means more to the Sox. Engel had a good week after replacing Robert. 8 for 18 with a double and HR.
  16. Big jump in velo this year for him which is impressive at 18. He could be throwing 100 in a year without mono like he had this year.
  17. Doesnt' mean much when they don't walk and haven't hit many HR's . There's been no balance and of course no LHH's to keep pitcher's in line. The 2nd half needs Moncada and Grandal to come alive and wouldn't hurt the Sox to find another LHH either in the OF .If they do it'll probably be another old NL guy like David Peralta which I wouldn't like.
  18. Year of the Pitcher Denny McClain, Bob Gibson , Lowered the mound the next season.
  19. Or RF For defense alone he might be worth it. Shore up the D a little if Moncada and Grandal start to hit.
