The A's are more capable of scoring 20 runs than the Sox are 8. -

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Trade Winds 2024
You do not know that he would traded without the extension demand. Beside why you even upset ? If I picked a 100-1 horse to win a race and he won only because the horse leading the pack broke his leg down the stretch , I still win don't I ? Am I now required to know the exact reason why he won to cash my ticket ? There were already plenty of reasons why he wouldn't be traded. The extension demand just made one more. I played the odds. I won you lost. Rationalize it all you want . -
Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Trade Winds 2024
My post history shows what I predicted over and over and that was the end result . Predicting an exact sequence of events is impossible so why would you think I would know EXACTLY what would happen ? I'm acting like I had an opinion on that the original poll question asked about who would be traded and the ensuing reasons that I felt that way. The discussion has always been would Crochet and Robert be traded ? My answer was consistently no for both even when you insisted I was naive because I still believed Crochet wouldn't be traded even after Nightingale said he most certainly would be. You were dead wrong aligning yourself with Nightengale and are pissed that through it all I stuck to my guns . You have consistently pushed back against my opinions by failing to understand that the likelihood of him or Robert being traded was slim from the start because of major red flags and asking price. The extension announcement never changed that calculus . The only thing that changed was Crochet driving home this point : If I stay healthy enough to make it through a full season I will have pitched way more innings than most have expected. Frankly I am already past that point. I attribute this to the routine I am on. Expecting me to go even further beyond that point and pitch in the post season and possibly change my routine is extremely risky not only to my health and ability to bounce back next year but also to my career earnings ability. I will not be forced into a position that compromises those things without compensation. It's real easy to understand that side of his argument . He was already above and beyond limits not many expected him to reach . He would rather stick to his routine rather than alter it and risk his whole career . Essentially without an extension a team would be telling him to do things that could cost him $100,000,000M+ .Would you do that ? Staying with the Sox at least insured that he can continue to do things his way. -

Start of this inning I was typing Losing time. I looked up to hit submit and nothing was there so I thought screw it. It's no fun predicting the easily predictable. -

Not when's he still pitching. You can't just tell a guy he's not going to play when he wants to pitch. Headline: Crochet Says White Sox shut him down for no reason. "I feel great". -

Sure there is if he's feeling fine. He's been on the sidelines enough in his career. He wants to make big money then starting earning it and stay healthy. -

It was 75 last start and he trying to be economical with his pitches to get outs earlier in the count but he's getting a lot of foul balls. -

It was a terrible deal. When a guy has a good track record it's all about what have you done lately like with Cease. It's a negotiating tactic to drive the price down . The Fedde deal was not just a Fedde deal it was a Kopech and Pham deal too. How could Edman a guy who hadn't played all year because of injury get you Fedde and Pham? Obviously the Cards wanted Pham since he's played all 3 games since they got him and Fedde goes right into their starting rotation as a huge piece to their playoff and World Series aspirations. Fedde should've been worth more then the Sox got back for all 3 players. No way should they have been packaged together .How they got away with just parting with an injured Edman is just bizarre. Couple that with a trade with the Twins not getting off the starting blocks but the starting block supposedly included BA 54th rated hitting prospect Luke Keaschall , you have to wonder how more talks with the Twins could have progressed had the Sox not clenched their cheeks about trading in division.

Right but he wasn't going to play over Benintendi in LF and Robert was hurt for a good potion of the season and there was no hitting or good defense in RF so those were spots to play him. Sox had no true backup CF and really Pillar didn't fit that role all that good either. Pham could accumulate negative defensive WAR in CF pretty quickly just based on jumps and routes and range even if he caught most everything he could reach. It's the stuff you can't reach based on lack of true CF speed or the other factors I mentioned that prove you really don't belong out in CF.

We know it's never that simple though. No one was giving up top prospects. Garrett had some huge selling points but also availability for the post season was in doubt from the beginning and asking for an extension hurt drive down offers which were probably not very good to begin with. I hope all these teams hoarding prospects all choke on the marginal upgrades they made. It doesn't really leave me too many teams Id want to see win the World Series . None of them loosened their grip on prospects . Vargas was expendable just like Bush because of lack of a true position or just plain lousy defense. At least Busch was a power hitting LH 1st baseman which is much better than being a RH hitter without as much power who can play multiple positions equally bad and still likely to end up being 1st baseman or DH.

Yoan was like 7 for 13 in his rehab starts. He obviously could play and play well even if it was low level pitching. Let's not forget Yoan is a free agent and he should want to get back on the field too and prove he's worth more than a minor league contract. Maybe he'll just retire and decide baseball is too hard on his health which he probably ruined by not being careful enough to avoid getting COVID .He hasn't been the same since. No cure for young dumb and full of .... Dude was a partier.

Dodgers knew that If they didn't give in they would probably have another shot at getting him in the off season since the Sox aren't likely to extend him . That way they could then say Ok Crochet lasted the whole season( if he does) and we now think he is capable of pitching a whole sesson and into the playoffs so we'll give you Rushing now. It'll be up to Getz to say ok so now you think he's more valuable than he was so we want more for him. Dodgers turn around and say he is less valuable because we're getting him for less time unless we extend him. But the counter to that you get the chance to extend him is now also more valuable for your use beyond just his current contract which by the way he is still super cheap.
