White Sox vs Pirates July 12 game thread
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2024 Season in Review
I'm naive? I choose to make up my own mind while gathering as much info as I can. Naive is believing one source of information. Contender's needs starting pitcher who can actually start games in the 2nd half and perhaps another 6 starts in the playoffs. That won't be Crochet . He also has a high asking price. I've always thought him and Robert both have a 50/50 chance of being traded. With that in mind , it's a coin flip and can come up heads twice ,tails twice or once of each. Both traded, neither traded or one of them traded. If Nightingale is right it's not like it was some big revelation once he started pitching really well and if he's wrong I already gave you the reasons why . -

So basically you're saying the Sox are damned if they do and damned if they don't so they can't do anything with Crochet that isn't met with scorn by the fanbase. So you have carte blanche to rip them to shreds either way. Pitch him and they are abusing poor stupid Garrett Crochet who surely is just a mindless boob doing everything the Sox want with no regard to his health. Or they rest him at the perfect time to rest him and suddenly it's the Sox wanting to showcase him for the big upcoming trade with no regard to poor stupid Garrett Crochet. You know Crochet has been fine with what's happened this year don't you ? He was involved with how they constructed a plan and it was because of that plan by Crochet, Bannister,Katz and Getz that he has the opportunity to be an All Star and possibly become a very wealthy young man if he can manage to stay healthy enough and pitch well enough for over 2 more years. -

Has it ever once crossed your mind it might be important to Crochet also ? He could certainly turn it down like some players do who might have minor injuries or don't want to pitch if it messes with their routine. The All-Star break is a logical place to give him rest in a plan to curtail his innings in the 2nd half and still let him pitch in the All-Star game if he would like to. I think the Sox are handling him as if he will still pitch with them. -
Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Paulie4Pres's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Struggled with where to put this since there's not much to celebrate and this thread is more about the bad kind of record chasing. So we had the Kopech immaculate inning . He was the 1st Sox pitcher in 100 years. Some franchises don't have an immaculate inning. It's very rare but it is just one inning so doesn't really mean much . Lost in that accomplishment by a Sox pitcher was what Drew Thorpe accomplished that never happened in Sox history. He was the 1st Sox pitcher ever to have 4 straight starts of 6 or more inning giving up 3 or less hits and 2 runs or less. Great job Drew Thorpe ! -
How much is a guy like Fedde worth in a trade?

Pressure is relative. How about his whole career being on the line if he flopped this year ? -
#1/3/15/19/22/30 of Top 30 trade targets Sox
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to caulfield12's topic in Trade Winds 2024
If the ranking was based on most likely to be traded and most talented combined Fedde may be close to #1. Crochet and Robert aren't the locks to be traded that Fedde is. Plus starting pitching with a lot of good stats with innings under their belt make Fedde very desirable. I doubt his lack of a successful career means much . He's proven himself and the amount of WAR he's accumulated without being a high K guy with the Sox defense behind him is impressive. -
Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
We're not supposed to think he's always right anyway. He's just a gossip columnist repeating things he hears from people who may have an agenda or be out of the loop. -
I disagree with you a lot and you accused me of stalking you.Talk about not getting over it. I could say I'm living rent free in you're head. Isn't that one of your little catch phrases along with getting your feeling hurt ? You typically like to jump on a guy who's already got 2 people pounding on him. You're supposed be a moderator not an instigator or intimidator because you're feeling mighty in a wolfpack attack. Lots of people here know this about you. You're not the defender of the downtrodden like you make youself out to be when social issues invade the sports world. You're more like let me get a kick in too as long as hes getting kicked already. Face it you're a bully and abuse whatever authority is given to you as a mod.

There's difference between being a Getz supporter and saying let's give the guy a fair shake and remember who he's working for. There are plenty of good things happening . Lots of success in the minors for the 1st time in while. 2 stud starting pitcher's for tradebait out of nowhere. Thorpe and Cannon doing well. Bannister seems like good hire. I don't think that's mediocre stuff. For a guy who had no money or talent to work with on the ML level. Fedde and Crochet are 2 huge wins.More offensive talent should be coming. A lot depends on moving Robert and Crochet which I'm skeptical will happen by the TDL.

GMs skeptical teams meet price for Robert
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Crochet can't command $20M RIGHT NOW so how can I be out of touch with reality? It's impossible. You seem to be the one out of touch with reality because the reality is he's making 800K RIGHT NOW. You're talking hypothetically not reality. You have him hypothetically healthy for the end half of this year and 2 more years after that . We have no idea if he gets traded or if any team will meet the asking price for a pitcher likely nearing the end of the line for this seasons workload. Your talking best case scenario. Worst case scenario is he gets hurt and gets non tendered like Rodon. Guys like Lynn and Giolito had track records of success and seasons of many innings in healthy years. Crochet has none of those things. But apparently they are equal in your reality. -
Moncada might play again. Nobody cares
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You don't actually know if those 3 are going to be in the same lineup ever again at this point. -
Last third could be lots of different arms. Might get to see some new guys from trades like the kid they got for Grossman or some other AA & AAA arms like Toussaint , Ky Bush, Mason Adams may get a start or 2 or put in the pen.

Thought of Gonzalez but I went with the more recent Conforto example. -

I think it was the Pedro quote about pushing him that triggered those who look for stupid comments from him. It's pretty easy to find. He just should have said he'll start playing in AZ soon and we'll see how it goes. We're not looking at any particular date he'll be back in the lineup. But we are looking forward to having Yoan healthy again within a months time. -

2 seasons is a lifetime and some of are treating it like nothing. He's a long way off from $30M a year. It was just 6 months ago that most thought he had a high chance of being injured and thought if he was going to start in would be in the minors. Yes he has upped his value tremendously but he's not even at the point where he can pitch a full season yet. You're putting the cart way before the horse here. Plenty of talented player's bet on themselves eyeing a big payday and then hit regression and injury . Recently Conforto went through it. Didn't he turn down a big extension ? He hasn't come close to what he was offered that he turned down. For years Rodon couldn't fulfill his promise. Then boom one good seasons the the Sox where he wore down at the end. The Sox didn't even give him a QO . He had to prove it all over the next year with the Giants 2 years $44M .He managed to stay healthy again , opted out and got his big contract and got hurt again. Rodon had to be non tendered because of his injuries and was a free agent 3 times in 3 years. He was very fortunate his best 2 years were his $3M 2021 with the Sox and his next year with the Giants. Crochet still has his Arb 2 and Arb 3 years to go before he reaches Free Agency. I'd be willing to bet anyone he doesn't make $30M in 2027. He be really lucky to stay healthy enough to get a shot to make $20M in 2027. I don't know if the Sox made him a real extension offer but if they did it was on the conservative side and rightly so. Just because he's been miraculous this season doesn't mean he can pull off the same miracle 3 years in a row. He has the talent but will his arm hold up ? It's hard to navigate uncharted waters. -
Cease To Padres per Passan

Oh did I get under your skin ? My goodness .You seems upset .I honestly thought the majority of you supported the FO and didn't care about being champions. Of course fans don't make trades. Don't be silly everyone knows that . I have no idea what made you think I thought fans made trades. You just seemed like you were over protective over your top 5 prospects and anyone rated in the top 100 . Didn't mean to ruffle your Oriole feathers. -

Cease To Padres per Passan
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Fedde is perfect for the O's . But these O's fan don't seem real concerned about winning a World Series only about not giving up future stars. After losing for so long it's nice to have one of the best teams and watch all the young talent bloom. They could be really good for the next 5 years. But if the goal is to be World champs they have to figure out how to accomplish that. Getting Burnes helped but only 1 year . If they don't advance very far again thats 2 years in row frittering away really good opportunities to be Champions. They don't come along often. Sometimes just keeping the money rolling in with good team's every year is more important than a Championship. If Baltimore fans agree with that philosophy and support their FO conservatism over Championships makes no sense to argue with them. -
Reading way too much into it. Again projecting your feelings as if that's how the player thinks or feels. It may have been mutually agreed on between player and management.

If no one thinks there's any fun to be had in the future then why bemoan the present so much ? Just follow the Dodgers and you can be rid of the anger you feel. Enjoyable seasons have happened in spite of JR even if it takes a Herculean amount of luck to ever happen.
-
Or why let him destroy his trade value with the Sox if he can get right in the minors for a week or so ? What's the fuss all about ? He doesn't have to be traded now. The fact remains that if he does get traded this deadline , the off-season or in the next couple years it's still a delayed return on the Cease trade. It's not a bad thing to try to maximize that return down the line.
-
I think he'll be back up before then but it is something to know and consider. Even moreso if he's got any pain in his arm .Is he's injured while in the minors and DL 'd for a stretch he won't acrrus service time. Crochet accrued service time recovering from TJS because he was in the majors, yet people think Crochet must hate the Sox for mishandling him. If he was in the minors learning how to be a SP he likely still ends up having TJS but wouldn't have accrued service time . He's a lot closer to FA now because of the Sox . I don't see any permanent damage done to him. People need to quit projecting their feelings onto thinking it's how the players feel. There are others ways to look at things.

Good point. May be just a rest move .Mini vacation to work on some things.
