  1. Last place finish guaranteed !
  2. Then why bother to stick up for him in the 1st place if all you have to offer is a let's wait for a bigger sample size, which was kind of my point. You can't draw any conclusions on what a small sample tells you about the pitcher and certainly not about the coaches.
  3. I guess I'd have to ask you if at any point in Thompson's career with the Sox if he had similar or better stats in any 23 inning sample size. I'd also ask if you anticipate that if he continues to walk 13 batters every 23 innings if you think that ERA is sustainable.
  4. That's you're highest hope and dream ? Yeesh ?
  5. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/white-sox-blank-nationals-2-0-for-their-2nd-consecutive-win/
  6. I act surprised when posters pretend they have inside knowledge of things they have no clue about. In general the Sox lag behind other teams in player development but you cannot pinpoint real solid reasons why except Reinsdorf which has always been my stance. I don't go around saying that a Sox prospect that has been in our system for years who gets traded to another franchise and performs ok for 3 games is proof positive that one organization has better coaches than another.
  7. 2 shutouts in a row.. of the opposition no less ! Sox 10-7 the last 17 games. Pretty soon they may only have twice as many losses as wins ! What a team ! Edit: Make that 11-8 in last 19 games.
  8. You're thought process is very sound. The thinking is I suppose that we already know Julks is , OF depth on a bad team but people rather dream Rodriguez can be a competent if not great MLB pitcher just because he's young and not fully developed yet. You make those type of trades too often and you give away a Tatis, Jr. So, yes ,panic sets in about the process rather than the trade itself.
  9. Better be careful Jimmy the tides of rebellion are rising against Getz sympathizers. I'm seeing some McCarthyism 1950s vibes here.
  10. We'll hear of Rodriguez again. He'll put together a good 3 game sample size in A ball and We ll get an I told you so like we got when Matthew Thompson had a small SS run with the Cubs AA team as evidence the Cubs MiL coaches were better than the Sox.
  11. Cody Sedlock ,Pitcher. Promoted from ACL to Charlotte. Hmm quite a jump unless he was rehabbing there. Who knows something ?
  12. My point exactly. Any time you get a prospect especially in the lowest levels you can still strike gold. But you can also be a ranked prospect as a top domestic draftee or international signee without ever having played, but Tatis, Jr was never considered top of the class, so to speak.
  13. Alresdy seen some and I'm not paying close attention to the transaction wires. Grossman and Arraez . Rare but certainly not unheard of. Super rare I'd need to have some kind of value to quantify using such a term. Is it hitting for the cycle super rare, perfect game super rare or no hitter super rare ?
  14. I think hot commodity at this point of the season usually means getting some initial phone calls looking for someone hot and giving up a garbage return. Of course you could take a shot that Flexen stays hot if you can spot changes he's made that you think are sustainable, but most GMs would rather give it more time knowing either way they know the Sox would be pleased to move him.
  15. Be more specific. Are we talking top 30 in all of MLB or someone in top 30 team prospects ? Usually when you say top 30 it corresponds with team prospects rather than league prospects . Top 30 MLB prospect, no, not a chance. Top 30 of any particular team is very likely since that covers 900+ different prospects. And even then rankings don't mean everything. Was Tatis, Jr. ever in the Sox top 30 ?
  16. I like the 1st paragraph because reaching a conclusion without knowledge is BS. What's that called in court ? Conjecture ? Object to conjecture and it's usually disallowed. Doubtful his career is done since it's likely he comes back this year. His highest paychecks are behind him but he'd be a great bench depth piece for someone wanting a strong glove and switch hitting bat for minimal money. It actually right up Getz's alley which is usually where you find garbage.?
  17. Well they are off to the best start in franchise history as of today. They could also trade Santander or other prospects at the deadline. Their GM seems to have good grasp on the situation . They also still have the #1 prospect in baseball and Basallo and others. Unlike the Sox their cupboard isn't bare once they got really good. I don't think the Sox ever were as good in their window as the Os are now . The Os are in a much better division.
  18. If you took what you bolded in the context I used it I said they have a way to go because they haven't won a championship or had 4-6 years of playoffs baseball yet. And that would be the ultimate way of determining if they made the right call on operating the way they have. As you mentioned I also think they have COULD have a rough road ahead but they hoarded prospects because ,like the Sox, they weren't going to spend a lot of money to win a championship, so you need to keep your minor league depth. You can't sell out your depth to go all in . Your best shot to win a World Series is by making the playoffs year after year. But that doesn't guarantee a championship. The Dodgers and Yankees have both had long droughts between championships despite continually being in the playoffs. Tamp Bay never won a World Series but they give their fans playoff teams often. It's been pretty obvious since last year's record they were ready to compete for a championship now but they had holes in their OF that needed to be filled in the next few years. So they didn't want to give up near ready top OF prospects. I also don't remember Sox fans asking for the Orioles AAA fodder. We pretty much bristled at mentions of guys like Westburg and Beavers as 3rd piece types. We wanted Kjerstad or Cowser mostly and not trading them was the correct call. I suppose it's how you measure success that ultimately determines how you'll view them hoarding prospects. Winning a championship is the top goal and if all else is failure then youre underestimating the fan entertainment and yearly revenue and franchise building value of sustained playoff appearanes.
  19. Since you said send him to the minors I can only respond to what you said and not what you meant. I only read the words not minds. He's eating innings and keeping a guy like Nastrini from burning service time. In a season like this nothing really needs to give concerning Soroka. He'll be replaced in the starting rotation eventually but they do want to get some value back in a trade somehow be it as a RP or a SP.
  20. Why would they do that ? You just need to keep letting him pitch and see if he can turn it around like Flexen has for the time being. The whole point is to trade him not develop him. If he's worthless at the trade deadline so be it. The Sox may consider a BP role for him if he can't find a way to improve as a SP.
  21. Just want you to know that as far as I'm concerned you can do every game thread. Not sure there are too many Sox fans chomping at the bit to do it. More than likely we end up having quite a few late game threads that start in the 2nd inning as the season drags on. Of course there's the whole etiquette thing that's a lot more useful during winning fun seasons than it is during a season like this.
