You mentioned 3 players you thought the Sox should go after as an example of what they should be doing. Maybe you can tell us what happened with those players , who acquired them and for who and if you think it was possible for a similar return from the Sox given their state of affairs at that time. I'm not trying to put you on the spot. I have often advocated for the same thing because I too thought Kelenic was worth pursuing. I'm just trying to ascertain how feasible that was for the Sox since they didn't have much to work with. I think Getz was basically forced to operate on the fringes, cut salary as much as possible and hire staff to try to squeeze blood from some turnips. Right now getting marginal wins in theory helps to build minor league depth which in turn could build depth for our MLB team . Who knows if you can get lucky and find a guy like Tatis ,Jr. amongst what appear to be nothing trades.

That was a fun time not evil. It was our "Cease is worth a fortune" guys against the Orioles " no, he's not worth a fortune, but he is worth a decent return" guys. And they basically showed us we were delusional . If the measure of if the O's fan were right is winning a championship or just 4 ,5, 6 years of playoffs baseball due to keeping their most highly regarded prospects, they still have a way to go. It would be fun eventually to look back 5 years from now at the thread and see how all the O's prospects that were discussed have panned out. That was a great time in Soxtalk history.

I guess we'll find out soon enough if having Clevinger be a good boy for 1.5 years leads to a minor leaguer. If not, it's certainly a good way to get a cheap decent starting pitcher every year. If the Sox are the only team to offer him a contract they can keep low balling him.Otherwise good luck in whatever foreign league will pay him more.

No we usually discuss trading the reclamation projects the Sox hope will play well enough to be traded or guys like Eloy and Moncada who are likely to be dumped after the season because they are too injury prone and make too much money. Guys like Lee we just got last year at the trade deadline. We're hoping to get more like him at the coming deadline.
