  1. It is possible to have higher hopes while still objectively knowing the Sox will still be pretty bad. I hope Fedde and Soroka pitch well enough in the 1st half to get some prospects at the deadline. I hope Crochet stays healthy. Same for Kopech and that he can find some command and get back in the starting rotation. I hope they find some hidden gem relief pitchers and trade the ones who we don't have a lot of years of control. I hope every single position player does better than expected and then they get traded. I hope a lot of the youngsters on the 40 and in the lower minors have tremendous seasons. I realize the team overall doesn't have nearly enough talent to avoid 90+ losses but if some of the hopes comes to fruition then it's a positive step forward that I hope JR doesn't automatically squash with whatever is up his sleeve, He is the biggest obstacle by far and where my hopes diminish .
  2. 3rd inning for Cease 2 walks 2 run double by Polanco. Throwing his curve/knuckle curve a lot . Notfinding the zone nor fooling anyone with it.Gets out of the inning with a 3 pitch K, slider fastball dotting corners and GO.
  3. Cease is pitching for the Padres now. Free game of the day on MLB TV. Scoreless through 2.
  4. Double the $8M at least . $8M for 2024. He's Arb 3 next year so if all goes well in SD he should get at least another $8 and more than likely more. So thats another $8M+ off the 2025 book . Barring any type of superstar like season from Moncada he'll also be off the books next year and possibly Eloy too. If Fedde is tradable at the deadline part of his 2024 $7.5M salary and all of his $7.5M for 2025 off the books too. Stay tuned it could be really ugly next year since attendanceand sponsorship is likely to be real bad this year .
  5. Brebbia gave up 2 walks and 3 run HR . 6-3 Rockies . Top of the 8th now.
  6. 3-3 now. Leasure gave up his 1st runs of the Spring . 1 inning 4 hits 2 runs 2K
  7. It's very similar lyrics in Heartbreak Hotel . I don't know the Hank Williams song you were referencing so to me it was Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis. "So lonely I could die" Instead of "so lonesome I could cry" . Elvis probably liked Hank Williams but I don't know if Elvise wrote Heartbreak Hotel or if the lyrics were more of an homage to Williams or had nothing to do with Willams. Heartbreak Hotel / Elvis Presley Well, since my baby left me Well, I found a new place to dwell Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street At Heartbreak Hotel Where I'll be, I'll be so lonely, baby Well, I'm so lonely I'll be so lonely, I could die.
  8. Heartbreak Hotel was the song you referenced . The lyrics so lonesome I could cry are Heartbreak Hotels lyrics. That's what I was telling you. ?
  9. Fedde 5 innings , 2 hits, 1 R, 1BB , 4K . 81 pitches
  10. 1-1 After 4 innings. Fedde 1 run 2 hits 4K Ugly 1st inning for Sox offense 1 and 2 no outs. Sac bunt attempt lead runner Maldonado Forced out. Fail. Double steal attempt , lead runner Shewmake thrown out.Fail. SB attempt Ortega gunned down. Fail SB attempt
  11. There are no hard and fast rules that apply to every off season. Part of a GMs job is to read the terrain. Preller correctly read JRs and the Sox terrain. They wouldn't take the risk of Cease getting injured into the season. You watched him pitch well in spring and you make good, not great, offer for him. Sox fans did not read the terrain and expected too much for him forgetting who runs the team and how payroll was being cut. This off season with RSN problems causing havoc with many teams bottom lines meant free agent activity had a good chance of being slower which will always lower prices but moreso on the older less talented players. I'm not arguing the way Getz did things is right or wrong, but the arguments here appear that they are treating every off season the same and that is not the case.
  12. Does it really matter ? I mean sure if the general board consensus is that Sheets should be gone at all costs . If the object is to win games with the best, cheapest motley crew they can assemble while still attempting to not rush their motley crew of prospects it doesn't matter what they do. Everyone assumes Vaughn will keep getting chances to show he'll get better I wouldn't be totally surprised if the Sox think Sheets has made some kind of adjustment that may make him a better hitter against RHP than Vaughn. Maybe they send Sheets down and see if he smashes RHP in the minors better than he has in the past. They still need power from the left side.
  13. It's obvious JR wants to spend as little as possible when necessary. Really no reason to pay Pillar or Moustakas more when they could pay less for others players to perform on a level more or less equal to the numbers those guys would put up. Pillar's is back , he just had take a cut in his hoped for salary. We don't know how JR is thinking . He talked about competing as quickly as possible but he's clearly talking out of both sides of his mouth when his actions clearly indicate he's crying poor and making every attempt to avoid losses.
  14. Which was me wondering why you would only count half a season on a 2 year deal when I was talking about why Jerry wanted him traded before the season . It made no sense.
  15. Yep Sox told him look, you're not worth $3M if you make the opening day roster but you're worth MLB minimum or $1M and he wasn't in any position to say no. That's still real good money for a guy who probably will never see paychecks that big again unless he is a future MLB manager.
  16. Guessing you're not counting 2025 that a serious injury could also seriously hurt his value for the 2 year length of his contract.
  17. Also on the mlbtv app on your Smart TVs in the white Sox highlights section if you have you app set to the White Sox as you favorite team.
  18. The bulk of the money is the Cease contract. JR never take a risk of him pitching for another 3+ months. Don't u think the other GMs knew that when they made offers? It wasn't just his down year or metrics. When you put it in perspective the return is a lot more logical. I'm 99 % sure it was Jerry's call.
  19. Between not having to pay a possible $4M to Mous and $3M to Pillar and $8M? to Cease that's $13-$15M+ The 2025 Cease salary w/e it was is off the books too. The Sox saved when JR made sure they weren't paid. The Clevinger and other pitcher who signed already for 4.5M were just distraction tweets. JR wouldn't pay them. JRs fingerprints are all over these moves. Follow the money. No way JR wanted to risk losing $18-$20M and more if Cease got injured.
  20. I'm very surprised I didn't see Thorpe in their write-up. If you can't include the Minor League Pitcher of the year from last season as a top pitching prospect then I have to question the Sox rank. He's definitely among those less than 2 years away which was their criteria. And they talked about the Cease trade in the Padres write-up. So unless they did the worse teams 1st before the Cease trade and the Padres after the Cease trade , they have no reason to exclude Thorpe. Sox would have ranked higher than the Mets and tied with 2 other teams if their score was 1 higher. So theoretically they could be been ranked higher.
  21. The pitching from the guys expected to make the 26 has actually been pretty good this spring. Of course it was an open tryout so there were going to be guys who stood out in small sample sizes. We all know that performance with relief pitching can vary greatly from game to game especially with guys who have trouble throwing strikes. However it does suck being reduced to thinking the Sox pitching won't be as bad as I thought because of ST numbers. Leasure seems legitimately talented. Unsure about the rest of them until they can throw strikes consistently.
