  1. There are likely many more casual fans than there are die hards. I qualify as a diehard but with a semi casual outlook. Sure I constantly bust JRs chops as an owner but not very overly critical of his puppets.Nothing I write changes anything.i just try to give a balanced perspective that is not welcome among the rabid pitchfork carrying crowd . Diehards are the vocal minority. People go to games as a family outing including their dogs on dog days. They want to root root root for the White Sox . They show up to get bobbleheads and Hawaiian shirts. Drunken loudmouth fans who take things too seriously ruin it for everyone else like with the fights that break out between Sox and Cubs fans . It's supposed to be a place to bring your kids without worrying about their safety to enjoy the fresh air sunshine and a beautiful green pasture where young men play a game that is both extremely cerebral and physical. JR has never understood that it's a game that requires the young to get great coaching to guide them to success by teaching them that failure and making adjustments to your failures is the key to improvement. If you want consistent success at the major League levels you have to devote money, people machines and into the youth and its ultimately less expensive than making mistake after mistake in the lower to middle FA market that are inherent dealing in that level. My point is I think you can stay a fan, even a diehard, without being angry. The only skin I have in the game is my fandom and any entertainment dollars I put into it. If it saddens ,angers or frustrates me I take a step back and do something that gives me more enjoyment. I still absorb all things White Sox. I just observe and report. If you listen at all to Vinnie Duber on the CHGO podcasts he's the beat reporter who is the voice of reason providing balance to the more passionate members who wear their fan emotions on their sleeves . I liken my fandom to him, a Sox fan doing his best to report accurately and fairly and leave my emotions out of it. I take the fanatic out of being a fan. I guess that's what would be defined as dispassionate at least when things are going bad because that's the majority of the time for every sports fan if championships are your barometer for true happiness.
  2. Big idk on JR or Crochet accepting that. Seems fair for both sides with the opt outs. Too early to give him $100M with his injury history and lack of SP innings. What's the most he can make in 2025 and 2026 without the extension ? $10-15M combined for both years ? I know nothing about biggest Arb 2 amounts given but start with 2025 .What's he going to get in Arb 2 as a raise from the 800K he made this year ?
  3. While I agree that the chances are very slim he gets extended most of the payroll has already been slashed except for Robert and Benintendi. Everyone else is going to be maybe $5M max depending on decisions on who let go of and who they sign.
  4. Kinda left something out .You can stay healthy and still pitch bad. He has to perform at a level that commands 3X $100M too HUGE if. If the Sox had waited another year before giving extensions to Moncada and Eloy things might be different. In what way I have no idea .
  5. It'd be stupid in your 1st year as a starting pitcher with a history of arm problems knowing that you might have performance issues along the way not to take a fair offer. Your ego cannot outweigh your brain. He's still got 2 full years to prove he can avoid injury and pitch at a high level in order to make any money beyond what he'll get in Arb 2 and 3. Did any of the core prospects live up to their extensions ? Id offer 5/75 and offer some opt outs for 2027 and 2028 after he passes his arb. years. If he gets hurt or sucks he still makes $75M but he'll get the chance to level up and opt out every year except the next 2 which the Sox would have him for anyway and they can trade him at any time after he signs the extension on case he becomes a monster .
  6. I wouldn't say pretty exhausted but he's going 4 innings max for a reason and it's because how far above the amount of innings he's ever thrown in his life this year. It's his first year as a SP too. He's still learning and developing . He could be even better if he's mastering a sinker now. Thatll cut down on HRs allowed and likely lead to using the cutter less. The sinker will be at 97 MPH and highly effective judging by the Padres game and his effectiveness against the Tigers today. I'll have to see his pitch usage charts and look at the amount of sinkers and cutters thrown. Still hard to get a real read on it though with the pitch limits but it's trending that way his last couple starts once he got a grip he felt comfortable with so he could start throwing in more in games.
  7. According to his recent presser he wasn't all that keen on getting out of here. He likes the plan that Getz and Bannister put him on. There was no guarantee that if traded the new team would let him continue on that plan. That's what prompted him to do what he did. I fail to comprehend why anyone holds that against him. There were still offers for him. The Phillies wouldn't give up Painter, The Dodgers wouldn't give up Rushing and ATL was interested too. Sox got low balled as expected because of questions surrounding his IP this season and how much help he could really be the rest of the season . When you won't give up position players except catchers, pitchers and 1st basemen why trade him ? So far I think keeping him has made him more valuable. He dominated the Padres because he threw a sinker for the 1st time all season because he finally got comfortable with a grip.
  8. And here I was in the gamethread thinking it might have been to get his ERA below 5. 3 wins for Flexen today, a win in his win/loss record , his first ein since May 8th, the bonus money and getting the ERA under 5 !!!
  9. And you get it on your smart TV without casting to it from a phone app ?
  10. There's a lot of jargon that's lost on people because of all the different makes and models of TV available so maybe on higher end TVs there's an antenna built in but maybe it's just the OTA tuner because antennas still need to point in the right direction to receive OTA signals. My cheapo 4K TV has an OTA tuner which is listed under Inputs along with other things you input into your TV through HDMI ports like Blu-ray and 4K players and other auxillary ports. But I'd have a hard time getting any OTA channels if I didn't stick an old stereo copper wire antenna into the cable input and that became my antenna when I scanned for OTA channels. I still have to move the antenna around depending on the channel I'm watching for NFL games on CBS , NBC , ABC or Fox. I have a picture on the wall above my TV which is on a stand and I just slide the antenna along the top of the picture a little bit if I start losing the signal. People do confuse having a tuner for having an antenna A tuner alloed you to scan for channels .An antenna allows the signals for those channels to be picked up and added to the tuner if strong enough. You could get different channels every time you do a scan. I'd be like hey why aren't I getting CBS now . It takes trial and error to position antenna or better antenna for optimal results . You have to have a bit of scientist in you unfortunately to get best results if you're intent on saving money and gettng to watch your favorite sport teams. We could help each other out by making and pinning a thread after Oct 1st that says I live in this location , I have this kind of TV and use this kind of antenna , and I can watch OTA Bulls and Blackhawks games without a problem.
  11. I don't even have a VPN most services cost something to get one . I just use the Reddit streams for major sports and checked into some of the android TV browser apps and tested them until I found one that was best. Most TV apps have a ranking so start with the highest ranked one. The browser on my TV I use is called Zeus.
  12. TVs are like phones and laptops now . If you're used to just using it for cable you tend to ignore many of the functions related to OTA TV and streaming options. Until recently when stealing games Id watch on my 19 inch SD compute screen. Now I figured out how to do it on my android 55 in. Cheapo model TV. and didn't cost me anything.
  13. I did say it ended at 4.95 but the discrepancy we were discussing was what it was after 6 rather than 6.1 innings.
  14. I was going by MLB gameday which said 5.02 after 6 but youre probably right because 1 out likely doesn't reduce it by .07 to the 4.95 it was after his 1 out in the 7th.
  15. Crochet is pitching tomorrow but no way in hell they add Shultz to the 40 . He's done for the year. Highly doubt Schultz pitches on the majors till 2026 health and performance permitting.
  16. Iriarte breezes through the 8th on 11 pitched with a K. He might get the 9th too unless they give it to Eder.
  17. Good job by Varland getting the 2 outs. Flexen stays under 5.00 ERA and in line for his 1st win in a long time.
  18. Flexen out having got 1 out and ERAs now at 4.95 but maintaining it is up to the relief pitcher since the 2 runners on are Flexen's if they score.
  19. If Flex can go another inning without a run his ERA for the year should end up under 5. It's 5.02 now. He's probably done but maybe they're aware and will let him try.
  20. Vargas pops out to record his 2nd out of the inning. Still 7 run inning is biggest of the year.
  21. Rabbit ears sucked because TVs sucked. I came from the era of nothing but channels 2 through 13 and some UHF channels. Every picture on every channel was grainy . Technology has come a long way and TVs are built to receive streaming ,OTA , cable and have browser apps. They allow us to watch what we want in several different ways. Broadcasting sports is evolving constantly and there are no easy answers even in 2024. I'm happy I have choices and theater quality experience in home. If I have to role up my sleeves and use my brain to figure things out I'll do it. It's better than paying $105/ month to DirecTV with a 2 year commitment. Any company trying to to lock you into signing away your choice to get a better deal somewhere else sucks.
