  1. This is a good story of a baseball lifer. He worked for the Rays for 18 years for those who wanted us to poach more coaches from that system. Pretty cool how he ended up in the movie "The Babe" as pitcher Charlie Root on the mound as The Babe ( John Goodman) points his bat towards the Wrigley Field bleachers in the 1932 World Series for the infamous called shot HR. EX UIC pitcher now the pitching coach at AAA Charlotte.
  2. Major League , 3WAR , switching hitting , starting RF for a team that won 100 games who's hit 61 HRs the last 2 years, has a good arm. Why wouldn't there be a market for him when conservatively 90 % of all minor league players will never see an AB or pitch in MLB ? Surely someone somewhere would think he'd be a fine edition to their team and be willing to find something reasonably close to equitable for him.
  3. I saw he is 6' 230. That's a lot of muscle on that height. Still only 24. I see Russell Wilson (the QB) is still loving baseball now with the Yankees. The Panda Pablo Sandoval is trying a comeback with the Giants. For anyone thinking damn I thought he was 50 years old, he's 37.
  4. Yes I knew there were multiple ways but it never sounded like a BP stint was a viable way to keep him prepped as a starter. It's not just about getting the innings in . It's about how it would ve been too difficult to prep him as a starting pitcher which would disrupt the Sox ability to use him the way they do other relievers on the team. If he is going for being a starter you don't use him as a relief pitcher on the big club which you seemed to think was just as good just to build up innings. That was our fundamental disagreement. Crochet's interview shows that's how he wants to approach it also now. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
  5. Maybe so but at least they have guys to plug in and impending FA OFs to trade for their pitching needs if they can. That's why I'm surprised Santander isn't gone yet. If they are going to keep their prospects and try to be like the Rays then Santander should be traded before the deadline. The Rays in the same situation would already be looking for prospects for him ,Mullins and Hays. The O's can't afford to let any of them reach FA and get just a draft pick back if they are going to never sign high priced Free Agents. Maybe things change under new ownership but too hard to say when or what new ownership will do differently.
  6. But Bradfield and Beavers may be choices at the beginning of next year . They have 4 OFs close enough to ready to replace 3 OFs who will be gone soon enough. It doesn't leave as much good prospects capital left except their top guys to trade for Cease if they have to keep the OF prospects. So now people think the O's will give up Mayo or Basallo.
  7. You ' ll have to point it out to me where he named a source that said the Orioles called. He said Bruce Levine sounded sincere. He said he had heard . He also said he believed Cease would be traded before the end of January. I disagreed at the time in writing in the thread. But who are people going to think is right or Jimmy ? Him of course He's got sources and everyone salivates when he makes posts and says ohh he made cryptic posts and ooh later he said this. It's his passion to be a noted source of Sox info . It's his job to drum up interest in his content. I got nothing at all against James Fox. I tune into his content more often than most of you. I watch the new Future Sox content on YouTube where James and the others are more active now than before. I often think James and I think a lot alike when it comes to the Sox. Back when I wanted Stone Garret when he was released James also thought it was a good idea , one of the few to say so when others were dismissive. Ultimately it makes no difference that you believe Jimmy was saying for sure the O's have surely contacted the Sox again since it became common knowledge Bradish and Means we're injured, nor that I believe it was just his opinion. The point was that if they recently called the Sox people get excited thinking it could happen soon. That's why you said of course nothing is close or it may not happen at all. That's not obvious to everyone thinking oooh the O's called recently it's on again!! Let's go !! Jimmy was stating the obvious that he was disagreeing with the earlier posts that the O's were done dealing with the Sox and I agreed with him , not because his post was all mysterious and cryptic but because they have injured pitchers and the Sox have a pitcher they've already had trade discussions with. That's why Getz was willing to pitch Cease in season to make those teams who earlier thought he was asking too much, up their offers. The O's may not offer much more right now based only on their own pitcher's health but if Cease pitches well AND their pitching is still suffering and everything else aligns there will be a trade with the O's, or the Yankees or the dozen or so other teams who would covet a reinvigorated Cease.
  8. Thank u for pointing out the mistake. When I read the part of of my post u quoted I was thinking I didn't write that ,did I ? I was fully aware only Santander was a free Agent after this year and Mullins and Hays the next year. I have written about it a few times before. That's why later I said we'll see what happens with Santander but it wouldn't surprise if the other 2 were traded (meaning with the extra year on their contract for pitching. )
  9. The O's GM is methodical. No trade with them is imminent. They will delay any move to see how the health of their pitchers shakes out. Most likely in the near future we hear about them signing or trading for a cheap arm . It doesn't take a rocket scientist to surmise they will explore their options and they will take their time about it. If Cease pitches well in the 1st month or 2 of the season and the O's starting pitching is still looking sparse then Cease will be on of many options. They have talked enough already to know what Getz wants. However if Cease pitches well then the O's won't be the only ones wanting Cease and willing to pay more than previously offered. They would need to up the ante now. It's just not their style to do that. All three of their starting OFers will be Free Agents after this year and they have guys ready or near ready to step in with Cowser, Kjerstad, Beavers and Bradfield. Seems unlikely they would diminish their talent pool in the OF. It wouldn't be wise to let them play out their contracts , offer them a QO and only get a draft pick. We'll see what happens with Santander but it wouldn't shock me if Hays or Mullins gets traded and certainly not to the Sox unless they want Touki Toussaint ,Chris Flexen or Soroka in their rotation.
  10. You should probably watch this. The way Crochet is talking he prefers to be on a 5 day starting schedule just the way I described it. Not the progressive month by month sequence I described because that very very specific. But he said 5 day schedule where 1st and 2nd day are throwing days and the 3rd and 4th days are rest days before the 5th day start. Doesn't sound at all like a BP type of situation on an MLB team.
  11. That's because they thought they were still contenders and those guys weren't helping. They know they aren't contenders now and are being ultra cheap this year. It's all about trading the short term pitching guys . Bannister has more to do with that than Grifol. All Grifool has to do is put them on the mound and not let them get the crap beat out of them if at all possible.
  12. Nah he didn't. That's what you read into it knowing he sometimes gets inside info. But it's usually just his opinion and thats how everyone should look at it. He also thought Cease would be traded by the end of January.
  13. He is in charge of his own life. He's got a wife and Doctors who all have say in the matter before anything the Sox do. Fundamentally disagree all you want but no team is in the business of baseball to be magnanimous. Expecting the Sox to have the final say when everyone important to his decision says it's OK is expecting way too much.
  14. Hendriks is a grown man capable of making his own decisions. He was an inspiration to cancer patients all over the world. If he wanted to pitch it's his decision . He's got all kinds of Doctors to tell him not to do it . If he has medical clearance to pitch then I see no fault with Sox brass from going through with it if Hendriks and his doctors are fine with it also.
  15. Your theory doesn't hold water if Hendriks was the one who wanted to pitch last season. Too much conjecture in your theory unless you have some kind of link to say Hendriks didnt want to pitch and Hahn and Boyer forced it on him. I think a grown man wouldnt have a problem saying no if asked to pitch knowing that he was likely to be a Free Agent.
  16. Then the Sox can say " The Friends and Family plan works !"
  17. It says nothing about the manager. Getz is doing what JR limited him to doing. Grifol was paid for. Firing him is like giving away money to JR. All the veteran players are to make the pitchers a comfortable as they can on the mound , decent defense behind them. Nothing is as important as capitalizing on an improved Cease , a good Fedde, Kopech, Soroka and all the other pitchers. Anyone with any value running out of years is going to be flipped when pitching is desired the most. Pedrol just needs to play the stiffs that can play defense. Bannister is way more important than Grifol. 90 95 100 105 loses who cares who the manager is? It's all suck. The kids will play in the 2nd half once they vaquish anyone worth anything.
  18. That's a given. The question with Cease is his last season and why teams don't want to give up big time prospects for just durability and a good contract. They want him to be a #1 or a really good #2. No matter how you slice it that 4.58 ERA is still too many runs . You have get back closer to his 2022 season. It's crucial he pitch better, more innings and have better command.
  19. Right the health part is why I prefer he be on a regular clock work type schedule where he builds up arm strength slowly giving him time to get used to each step. It may not prevent injury but at least if he stays in the minors he can work on things that need working on like command and a 3rd pitch and fielding. He's a bad defender. Not sure he'll get too much better but it sure helps that you don't regularly throw bunts or swinging bunts away, can handle pick off moves and make accurate throws to start a DP. He just need so much work to get to where he needs to go. Colas can't do the little things right and they want him to work on those things in the minors, so why should Crochet not be held to the same standard ?
  20. LOL dudes it just his opinion. Lots of things are starting to go wrong with their SP . If they don't want to get too far behind the 8 ball ,a durable starter having a really good 1st 2 months, will start to look a lot better to a lot of teams..
  21. Well that's what Getz said. Doesn't mean it's the truth. If I were GM I would lie my ass off if someone asked me if the O's called.
  22. Could be earlier. Bradish and Means could turn into more serious problems . If Cease has a strong April and May and pitching injuries start hurting 3 or 4 contenders then watch out.
  23. I sure wouldn't mind Bradfield or Beavers. We going to find out very soon how good Cowser and Kjerstad are going to be. If they arent that good this season Kjerstad's rating will drop because he'll be 26 at the start of next season. With so much on the line they may try Kjerstad ahead of Cowser. I like the younger Bradfield and Beavers, one isa GG type CF with speed to burn and the the other generally characterized as a 5 tool guy and a great OBP.
  24. That's the plan. Keep minor leaguers in the minors as long as they can. Pile up some numbers and still have 6 full years. Be 100 % sure they are ready.
