  1. It still leaves us with 3 DH /1st basemen useless baserunners and terrible fielders.
  2. Snell will make as much AAV as he can for as long as he can. This is his shot . He won't settles for less than 5 years. No one does incentive based deals. That's a Reinsdorf special KW Manny Machado offer.
  3. Sure they could but if they are thought to be one of the frontrunners for Cease I think they are aiming higher for 2024. Cease would fit in their budget even after signing Ohtani .
  4. Your headliner is a bat only 1B guy DH who now adds to the unathletic types Getz swears he wants to be rid of so now you'd have, Busch , Eloy and Vaughn. Headliner has to be able to play some defense not a slow unathletic 26yr old bat only guy who adds to the pile the Sox already have. The Dodgers would love it if he headlined a trade for Cease. His bat fails he's useless.
  5. That threat might not carry much weight if they sign Ohtani for $30-40M per year since he won't be pitching in 2024.
  6. Justin Dirden would be good rule 5 pick. See bmags post in the Rule 5 draft preview thread.
  7. If that happened I'm not sure how happy this board is going to be.
  8. Agree to disagree . A really good 1st half would be an indication that he can return to his Cy young caliber self, a 1st half like last year and now you are wondering is he a 4.50 ERA going forward. That won't work in the playoffs. The half year you gain or lose depending on how he pitches would make a big difference in his value. On the good side it might be slightly offset by .5 season less of control but there are still 2 potential playoffs involved . If a team is fairly confident they can make the playoffs without having Cease in the 1st half of the season adding that #1 starter is now a super hot commodity . Sure he's worth a lot right now and It looks like he'll be traded soon but I'm not convinced people are going to be happy with the return . There are already people wondering if he's traded in a week or two if they will get the kind of return that could be higher he they waited longer and the pitching market thinned out more especially from a team like Baltimore who doesn't want to spend money . I'm sure in the O's mind how Cease did last year and the direction his future takes are question marks. It would surely be brought up in any negotiations. It's their job to try to get the Sox to take less based on any perceived negatives. The team that has less doubts will be the team that pays up.
  9. If I could envision trade negotiations now this is how I see it. It's a battle of 2022 vs 2023 Cease. Breakout year vs followup to breakout year. Who is he and what will he be ? Go out there everyday reliability vs. Are the innings pitched already hurting his stuff ? What do the Sox have to gain vs. what do they to lose if they hold onto him till the trade deadline ? That last question not only pertains to Cease but other prospects in the Sox organization and the trade partner's prospects and also pitchers who will be available at the trade deadline. Another half year for our prospects especially those in AA and AAA may provide clearer answers to our needs. I still think pitching and LH bats and good defense will or should be prioritized. Perhaps more power can be prioritized secondarily. Will Baltimore become a player and can the Sox get what they want from the other teams ? I don't blame anyone for not being enamored with Dodger prospects. Do we really want the Sox to be trading for their future LH power hitting 1st baseman now when one of your choices is the 26 yr. old Busch who the Dodgers would love to be a part of a Cease trade while he's still ranked as their 2nd best prosect ? My take is Cease will be traded but it may take a few more months. I also think the Sox include someone like Colas or Sosa, guys with talent but who have shown little plate discipline ability. For anyone wondering why Colas isn't in winter ball I'm pretty sure it's because he recently became a father.
  10. Maybe you have a misunderstanding of how most interviews work. Usually it's a controlled situation where the person agrees to be interviewed as long as the interviewer doesn't put the interviewee on the hot seat about anything controversial. No player in their right mind really wants to bash anyone while they are still capable of earning a paycheck. That can come back to bite you in your ass . It's the Bull Durham school of how to speak to the media.
  11. ??? Reinsdorf ruins the whole fan experience . Guessing payroll by $ is fruitless. It won't be enough to do what he said about a quick turnaround just like it was never enough for the previous FO to figure out how to make it work for a rebuild. He won't commit to build infrastructure, he won't commit to international players, he won't pay for superstars and doesn't like paying or waiting for youth to get better . Who exactly does that leave to acquire ?. Like Parkman used to say " pick a lane McDuck." If you prefer a smaller player payroll then get more staff and equipment and commit fully to developing youth and trade them away when they they get expensive like TB. Stop dangling the carrot because your master plan of just doing barely enough to hardly ever make the playoffs in a division where no one else pays big money, is and has been an utter failure in every way. However if your master plan was to get the people who want to pay money to watch your team, eat your food and buy your merchandise to despise you , your top executives, your manager and your players, congratulations you are a huge success !
  12. The Bears are the only NFL team in the Super Bowl era to win a road game without scoring a TD, having 75+ penalty yards and losing multiple fumbles. Road teams were a combined 0 - 46 with those combined stats (regular and post season).
  13. Bears become the 1st team this season to win without scoring a TD . 0- 28 previously. Defense played very well.
  14. This MNF game is putrid. Just another Bears game with a bunch of penalties and finding a way to lose in the 2nd half. 3-3 at halftime.
  15. $75M for 3 yrs isn't so bad. He cashed in on a good year and probably is getting more in the next 3 years than he's made his entire career. Get it out of the way now and prepare for the season with no worries.
  16. Maybe you need to be a better person. You have no power over me to tell me what to write about no matter how often you try to shame me for not living up to your unusual standards that one must be proud of himself in silence nor speak out against intolerance and bullying. I know it's the nature of men to seek to dominate one another but you should give your behavior more thought than mine.
  17. I like Dirden. I'm sure between now and Dec 6 there will be a spot or 2 open on the 40. It's not exactly overflowing with talent .
  18. It's still not happening regardless of any ancient signing of the past. The team currently lacks talent and Cease is in demand . Trading him to multiply the talent base for future teams is a needed step. What does resigning him accomplish ? If jR is going to keep doing what he always does it makes no sense to have guys on the Sox making $25M+ per year if it prevent signing other guys. Hell the Sox couldn't finish off a rebuild because they were paying relief pitchers good salaries while their core layers were constantly injured and couldn't put multiple years of consistent high quality performances together . They didn't build any depth, couldn't draft or develop talent , and had no superstars and weren't willing to pay for any. No one can imagine JR paying like the Phillies do or finishing off rebuilds with high priced free agents like the Astros and Cubs did. He laughed at the idea of signing the most unique and marketable player the sport has seen in almost a century.
  19. JR doesn't do long term contracts with pitchers and Boras is his agent . So I don't know what you read and when you read it but that's not happening.
  20. This is going to be a long process unless Getz gets an offer he can't refuse.
  21. Maybe but that trade doesn't hurt their roster at all for 2024 . They'd have Cease then Buehler (29), Miller (24), Pepiot (26), Gonsolin (31), Yarbrough (31), Grove (27), Sheehan (24),Stone (25) and Kershaw coming back in the summer. They all started games for the Dodgers last year. Plus Frasso and Knack behind all those guys. That's a lot of MLB or near MLB starting pitchers. No doubt the Dodgers would want to give up some that to the Sox . And if they get Ohtani he could pitch again in 2025 . Edit. Blah. May is a FA in 2026 so it would give him only 1 year in 2025 with the Sox. Forget it . ? Sox should ask for Bobby Miller of Elk Grove Village.
  22. If Getz is shooting for a competitive team next year I doubt the Dodgers give up Bobby Miller but he is a local kid. How would you feel if the Sox asked for the injured Dustin May and Rushing. May is great when healthy but often injured and recovering from a 2nd elbow surgery on his throwing arm. Ask for May and Rushing. Plan for Rushing to play 1st base which is a good place to put a LH bat. Trade Vaughnat the deadline if he has a good 1st half or see what you can get for him now. It's risky counting on May to return to his former self and avoid injuries but then again prospects are risky also, most of whom have little chance to be impactful MLB players.
  23. Looks like Getz is trying to make sure no prospect is rushed and gets sufficient AAA ABs and innings in his new regime.
