  1. And besides cheap ownership the one main thing that makes the Sox a historically bad franchise is the terrible terrible fact that they have the worst accumulative left handed hitters in baseball starting from the existence of the franchise. I think I saw that in a tweet from the guy who always give us those wonderfully depressing things about the Sox. I can't remember his name.
  2. I certainly realize what I proposed is an ongoing expense but the question remains how much of an ongoing expense is it? Let's say between salaries, scouts , travel expenses computer equipment etc involved in hiring 30 more staff members is somewhere around 50-100K per staff member if a certain amount of those hired is cheap labor of guys looking to use their degrees to break into baseball and some guys are higher priced scouts who you might poach from other organizations. I'll admit I have no idea what these people get paid or the cost of travel and purchase of high end stuff that teams like the Rays seem to have no problems investing in on a year to year basis so it can't be that prohibitive. So my guess is maybe you spend $3-5M a year .
  3. There is this dilemma that I hope Getz has asked JR about when it comes to spending the money on old downward trending veterans. He has a certain amount he can spend and can allocate all of it or as little as he sees fit. The question or dilemma I have as a fan is , If the budget is $150M and I spend $140M what happens to the $10M I didn't spend ? Can it be added to next year's payroll and how will I know you added it to next year's payroll ? In that case, if I'm Getz ,I spend everything JR gives me to spend. It might not have to be spend only on players though. I might want to increase staff, hire better scouts etc. to be more in line with how the rest of baseball does it. So the less you spend on guys like Merrifield the more you can put into infrastructure to support the intelligence of the FO finding , drafting, and developing talent. I just don't see the need to play anything but cheap young players or slightly more expensive non tenders looking for bounceback or breakout guys you can flip. Spending on guys like Merrifield accomplishes what exactly ? There is so many better things to do with $10-40M than putting it into the players who are going to lose close to 100 games in 2024 no matter what. Right now everything should be focused on building a smarter, better infrastructure. I just don't know if that falls under Getz purview or if that's a different budget than player payroll.
  4. Hey I've moved on but apparently me talking about Outman triggers you because I can count on u to comment to me whenever I do and after I tell you to grow up you show how much fun you are by using laugh emojis on my posts and depicting me as a skeleton sitting at a keyboard and being smarmy. But I did say some pretty funny stuff so I'll look at it that way even though we both know you were laughing AT me.
  5. I like the thought process but I don't know if you have permission to talk about it because the chances of it happening are very low. We have standards around here. ?. Don't mind me I'm making a point that eludes some people. I've actually done the same thing with Cease and Colas or Cease and Benintendi just speculating the same way others speculate on 3 team deals. Always great when posters have fresh ideas. It's what makes Soxtalk great knowing fans care enough to still want the best for them rather than endless posts about finding another team to root for.
  6. That's the dumbest criteria for talking about anything I ever heard of. People talk about which FA the Sox should sign all the time knowing JR is the Sox owner and most of time they have no shot whatsoever .It's called having an interest in your team and wanting them to do things we know deep down aren't going to happen. Having a " seat at the table" became the biggest joke of the Hahn era right up there with " "talk to me at the parade. " People are talking about wanting Outman now and there might've been a better shot at him last year before he put up 4.4 fWar . Now they can't really afford him because despite his meager salary if he was in a Cease trade how much else would the Sox get ? We know the Sox are not going to get any MLB high fWar guys in return for Cease. Getz wants to multiply in the same way any GM rebuilding turns top trade chips into multiple prospects.
  7. I can always count on you to be the tastiest meatball of them all. Go find another target. Arent me and Balta enough or are you just a typical bully afraid to take a stand against anyone you consider a cool kid. Grow up.
  8. I'm sure it was much lower last year. Steamer doesn't start making decent projections until a player has a few quality seasons under their belt. It's just a typical Steamer projection weighing last season vs everything else they take into account which considering where he was drafted and the age of his 1st season you have to really be impressive to take a huge leap from 1st to 2nd year projections. Corbin Carrol is 3 years younger than Outman and was a 1st round choice and his 22 and 23 years combines he had 7.4 fWar in 760 PA and his projection for an estimated 672 PA is 4.7
  9. Yah he did. You didnt have to hear all the s%*# I did about him because all I did in the last few off season is try to identify young LH mostly OF's who could be something and worth trying to acquire . He was an unranked 25 year old OF last offseason with a handful of productive MLB AB's. Fans here thought we were still contenders. Most here wanted more proven help. There were very few arguments that said yea you're right however the Dodgers are going to keep him which I always knew was a distinct possibilty. Most comments were insulting to all the hard work I put in researching the guy and smarmily try to show their superior baseball acumen by dismissing him with twitter style meatball comments.
  10. You have to consider what people thought of him last year. One really nice year isn't going to change peoples minds from "he sucks" to a great player until he puts up another year similar or better than last year. They are clinging to their original anal-ysis for as long as possible.
  11. I can easily agree with stockpiling SS and CF because those guys will end up playing 3rd,2nd ,LF or RF also but catchers have to be a catcher or 1st baseman. Right now I'm good at catcher if they spend on a defensive veteran to help the young pitchers. Those guys are fairly cheap. The Sox won't get Bobby Miller, pride of Elk Grove Village and the 29th pick in the 2020 draft for the Dodgers because he's too good. Dustin May is likely out for the whole season. It might not be a stretch to think the Dodgers would trade him while injured but would the Sox do that knowing he won't likely pitch in 2024 and his extensive injury history. Might be more likely if they get Ohtani and Ohtani can pitch in 2025 but that's a question mark if he doesnt want to pitch any more after a 2nd TJS. Kershaw won't pitch until the summer and who knows how he will be and even if he continues to do Kershaw things after he comes back there's his whole postseason history to think about. Walker Buehler might be on an innings limit after his injury, Seems like the Sox would want too much pitching from the Dodgers. If Cease gets trading I'm doubting it happens soon unless the rumored Dodger talks heat up in a hurry. There's still some quality FA pitchers on the market but not enough and Getz can't settle on stuff some of these fans from other teams are suggesting. Cease should be a hot commodity.
  12. He just didn't complete his sentence. Outman is just a guy who in his rookie season put up 4.4 fWar because he's a positive in every aspect of playing baseball, OBP .353, 12.0% BB rate, CF defense, power, speed/baserunning and another 5 years of control. Plus its coming from a guy who thinks TA was A+ on defense last year, thought Vaughn was a generational hitter and told me "Outman sucks" last off season . Outman proved a lot of people here wrong so those people want to see him fail or continue to question his ability. But as I said highly unlikely he's available even if the Dodgers end up with Ohtani in the OF. Sox won't be getting any type of player who was remotely good in MLB last year.
  13. I'm glad you said it and not me?. But seriously the Sox could try to expand the trade to include Colas. Unfortunately he seems to be a head case but maybe the Dodgers could stick him in their hitting factory to see if they can coach him up quickly. Giving up a LH power hitting OF with a strong arm along with Cease would strengthen the return but Outman is now worth a lot. He does so much well, positive defensively in CF, walks, positive base runner, hits for power and LH. Dodgers aren't exactly flush in the OF . Might have to wait until we see if they get Ohtani if you think there's any hope of getting Outman and a high end starting pitching prospect. They lost Heyward and David Peralta and Betts might be playing 2nd base so that basically leaves Outman and Chris Taylor. If you try to include Benintendi in a trade it hurts what u get back for Cease. So getting Outman isn't likely now. Might not even be likely if they get Ohtani. I don't like that the top Dodgers prospects are catchers. It Getz acquires any more catching prospects we'll start making jokes the way we did about Hahn and relief pitchers. Just pay cheap price for a defensive veteran catcher. Don't waste Cease on catching prospects.
  14. I thought I made it pretty clear that Getz just poached about to be non tendered guys who become Free agents once non-tendered plus some guys who fit in well with the flotsam at the bottom of the Sox 40 man roster. It's not a stroke of genius or anything and it may have been AAs idea but Idc care what ATL does, my take is a Sox perspective on how we might view the rest of the off season. Getz is trying to make it clear to any pitcher in Free Agency who considers a Sox offer that defense will be a priorty Will be interesting to see how things shake out. Might be working on a Cease trade very soon , maybe Vaughn too since he doesn't fit the athletic or good defense mold. Eloy still can play DH so moving him wouldn't seem to be as high a priorty as moving Cease and Vaughn to continue to The Getz Quest.
  15. I'm actually encouraged by this trade. I made a post a week ago that Getz would or should be shopping among the non-tenders since the 40 was so weak. The encouraging part is by making the trade he didn't have to wrestle with other GMs and agents once non tenders become Free agents. He went to one of the most talented 40s in baseball or A. Anthopoulus came to him. I'd love to give Getz credit but this may have been AAs idea since it was the Braves who wanted Bummer at the trade deadline because the Phillies have a lot of good LH hitters. I have said that I wanted to see what Getz's 1st significant transaction would be because it would set the tone for what was to come. Maybe we can put to rest any notion that S. Perez or Merrifield end up on the Sox . With precious few dollars to work with and little talent to trade at least Getz held true to his word about SP depth and defense while increasing depth in the middle infield.
  16. Well at least people looked at it before it sank .Thought there might be some talking points regarding some of the things Nastrini said.
  17. From what I understand per Garfien , Atlanta wanted him at the trade deadline and Hahn didn't go for it. You can't compare what the Sox got for Graveman and Middleton. LH hard throwing sinkerballers who don't give up HRs are a different animal. If the Braves can find a way to get him to throw strikes without substantially increasing his HR rate everyone they gave up will be worth it. Those guys were nothing to them.
  18. I like this post very much. Rays may not have ever won a World Series but they do have a strategy for having good teams on a very small budget. However I don't think I've ever seen a breakdown of the guys they traded ,who they got back, the level they were at , and when they started making an impact with the Rays. It all starts with scouting drafting and player development and everything that it entails. We've often seen how others teams staffs for these things dwarf the number of people the Sox have in those positions. There's no indication that Getz has been allowed to go full Rays. They'd have to do a heck of a lot more re: hiring staff. We also know JR rather pay for poor to mid MLB players than invest in youth. But it is better if he can even go partial Rays. But again still need a lot more developmental people.
  19. Most fan reactions are over reactions and totally meatball . It's funny how mentioning playing a real OF the LH guy on the bench who is there to like ,you know, play once in a while in April, over the 1B playing OFer golden haired struggling mightily draft pick who was in over his head just to give him some breathing room is still remembered as some kind of outlandish suggestion. OMG he actually suggested playing a bench player for a few games over the best hitting college player in the last 20 years who will be a superstar but is currently looking like a stiff. Mercy what a maroon !
  20. Mercedes was just a Sox minor leaguer I saw while perusing stats that stood out. I knew nothing about him . My initial inquiries were just to ask if the Future Sox people knew anything about him. Outman I did quite a bit of research on.
  21. Getz jackpot dumpster dive while he takes one thing out out of his shopping cart . More removed today. Getz will be in homeless GM heaven picking through all the non tenders. Owner laughs at idea of acquiring Ohtani, expects a quick turnaround back to contention while slashing payroll. GM Getzy the glitzy garbage gatherer. Go Getzy Go !
  22. I agree he'd be a marked man but with just a little more offensive talent these defenses wouldn't be able to concentrate as much on Bedard as much they are now. The Hawks can't sustain any time in the offensive zone and get badly outplayed in their own end. Only goaltending and strong defense from the young guys and the recent offensive explosion of Bedard is keeping them in this game. If he get's injured they won't be able to compete just for a higher draft choice. I don't want to see that happen just to wait on more talent. He's a franchise player even moreso than Kane was. He needs help.
