  1. Well he did say overall which covers defense and speed and baserunner. All Thomas could do was hit and walk . But he did those things extremely well. Dick Allen could sure hit too and good baserunner , but not close to a good defender.
  2. So much for that tweet about being 4-20 in the last game of series or w/e it was so expecting a loss. Stats can be twisted any way you want. Sox were nearly .500 at home could've meant they had a near 50/50 chance of winning. Earl Weaver quote: Momentum is only as good as tomorrow's starting pitcher. Or since that's so old we can change it too tomorrows pitchers !
  3. Red Sox, who arent a big K team, struck out 38 times against Sox pitching.
  4. Yea I hear a lot about pitch recognition. But most of the time it's recognizing pitch sequencing, knowing what the pitcher throws and when he's likely to throw it. You have all the info you need. Rogers Hornsby didn't have all that info. Professional hitter not flailers. You also have to know how they are going to pitch you. SO you can tell yourself ok here comes a high FB lay off it or here comes the breaking ball outside take it. They hang it you bang it.
  5. We're not the only team that strikes out a lot on sliders out of the zone. We just do it a lot more often.
  6. Nah there were 2 outs and the runner was very fast . Even if he was on 2nd he would have scored easy on a blooper. The only way he might not have scored would be on a rocket single right at an OF with a strong arm and the Sox don't have many of those.
  7. Win is a win they aint all pretty. I don't care if an infield popup gets caught in a sudden whirl wind for a HR if it means winning. The pitching staff for the most part has been pretty darn good for almost 2 months.
  8. Might seem obvious but Grifol should get some credit for PH Sheets, Remi pinch run, Remi SB all right before the Andrus GW RBI
  9. I was fighting with practically everyone on the board his 1st year. People here loved him ,really loved him . I thought he could have a breakout year this year. Not yet but there's still the 2nd half to go.
  10. Right plus it also puts more money in JR's coffers so a complete tear down money saving direction may not be as necessary. The real tricky part is how do u make the playoff as bad as the Sox are right now while still trading away the 1 year assets ? No depth to starting pitching so who take Gio's place in the rotation who isn't way worse ? The offense is bad and removing Grandal takes away another LH bat and OBP guy, although not much for walks this year but higher batting average than usual. Middleton has helped solidify the BP but BP arms will be in demand and Sox might gut the pen also. Anyway they aren't making the playoffs but as usual the Sox will delay the inevitable as long as possible and inevitably make poor decisions. Th right decisions isn't that clear but whichever road they choose will be the wrong one. Hahn has the magic touch for mediocrity and less.
  11. I can't believe they got that call unless there was another look we didn't see.
  12. Burger missed 2 years of development with injuries. Anybody who says that doesn't matter is out of their mind. The fact that he's up here playing better than most of the "core" that was supposed to lead the parades is actually amazing. 3/4 of the roster would be in the Mexican League before Burger yet the same guy clamors for Billy Hamilton every chance he gets.
  13. It's sad when a guy on his computer watching the game and paying attention to Gameday can see more clearly than Grifol he had to be taken out before that triple.
  14. Take him out lost his release point or something.
  15. This is why you don't just DFA guys who suck for a period of time. Long season, veteran who's behind the scene numbers weren't bad. Heard the same stuff about Giolito last year. DFA DFA DFA DFA
