  1. If Yoan keeps playing like he is now , he won't get $10M after his current contract runs out for 2025. Guys who slug under .400 and OPS under .700 who play only a power position and only that position, who are hurt often do not make $10M. I'm not talking about IL stints. He moves around like he's always hurt and that's what we keeping hearing.
  2. Probably why they have $1.5M they haven't spent.
  3. With the Sox having such problems at 2nd base, the one guy they have at AAA who they picked up in the off season is having a great season so far. Nate Mondou , 28, 5'7 , 205, LH . .292 BA , .415 OBP . That guy knows how to take walks, plus despite his Altuve like size, he has 11 HR and .934 OPS. I can only guess that maybe his fielding isn't good .Sosa got his shot. Romy is getting his now , sort of , At this point why keep Andrus even if you need the back up SS you know he's just going to be started at 2nd way too often now and that's one place the Sox do have some depth. Crappy depth so far but between Romy,Sosa, and Mondou 2nd base is loaded with guys who can p out produce Andrus at this point. Sucks to have no depth at SS which is why Sosa keeps getting shots because he can play SS . Don't think Romy can as well as Sosa. and neither as well as Andrus. But Andrus is the next to go if he can't get hot very very quickly.
  4. That Anderson AB though was nuts . I mean props to him for getting the count to 3-1 but the situation called for him to take the 3-1 pitch no matter what.
  5. A lot of it is development . Hitters become desirable if they can hit and good organizations, if they have to choose between one guy to draft or the other when it's a tossup do take the smart hitter who takes walks into great consideration because MLB pitching is so good and hitters develop better when they hit in zone pitches The Dodgers #9 prospect , who's in A+ ball (I forget his name) is a catcher who's OBP is over.400. Their #1 prospect is a catcher and they have Will Smith, one of the best catchers in the game. Colas has this problem too and the coaches tried to make him more of a contact hitter and it almost seems like they zapped his power now. He's not hitting HR's in Charlotte and it seems as though he's taking more walks , but you don't want Colas becoming a singles hitter either when he can bash baseballs 450ft. The hard part is still be able to take walks and hit HRs. If you can do that you can live with a high k rate. It's not only pitch recognition because there's so much movement on pitches being thrown from the same arm slot but it's knowing the situation and knowing exactly how a guy pitches . If a guy gets tons of swings and misses out of the zone like Lange for Detroit does on his curve, a hitter has to know that. TA made me crazy last night swinging on a 3-1 pitch well below the strike zone. Here it was 2 on, 1, out 3-1 count and Lange had just walked the hitter before him. You're one pitch away from loading the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th. Baseball logic and the situation calls for taking the next pitch especially a guy with terrible launch angle problems and you don't want to GO into a DP. He's lucky he didn't get called out on strikes on the next pitch that was very close.
  6. That's exactly what he meant. My brain said 3-3 ? I think we're playing more games than 6 in the next 3 weeks ?
  7. Haven't heard that either. A link would be helpful. I googled it and nothing.
  8. As far as you OBP goes they are as good as hits . But we know hits are better for numerous reasons.
  9. I really don't know if Petey Grifol was thinking that far ahead. He just wanted to get the right bats up in the bottom of the 9th. I heard his post game interview and that's what it sounded like to me.
  10. Thanks Lip. It is great to have you contribute your historical perspective to this place ! Richie "Dick" Allen was one of the few superstars the Sox had and although it was only for 3 years those 3 years were the best 3 consecutive years of his carer in his age 30-32 seasons. His career OBP, Slugging, OPS and OPS+ are outstanding. Frank Thomas has the exact same career OPS+ as Allen does, 156. The videos were great . I especially enjoyed the 1st one listening to Allen and Tanner speak. I highly recommend watching them for you younger ones who weren't around for those days. Those red pinstriped uniforms became very popular for a while when Allen was on the Sox.
  11. Yup me neither, but I allow myself time to enjoy a nice win and save thinking about that until they actually start losing in that stretch of upcoming games.
  12. My brain isn't figuring out WTH @flavum means by going 3-3 in the next 3 weeks . I keep thinking something is wrong with that statement . 3-3 in the next week ? Maybe he just got 3 happy with the 3 game sweep.
  13. I wonder when the last time was that the Sox swept a 3 game series at home with only 1 HR ?
  14. TA made my head explode swinging at that 3-1 pitch. I was like dude why swing, take strike 2 if you have to. Allow the chance for a wild pitch and walk. You know even if you hit it there's a good chance you're grounding into a DP. I swear why this stuff doesn't go through a players head stumps me. Even if you are supremely confident in your abilities you should be aware your low your launch angle is and the last thing you want to do is hit into a DP on one of those low curve ball you know you are going to get. Situational awareness was nil.
  15. Every Day at Home that Burger wasn't in the starting lineup I whined. Now you see why ! Sox sweep ! Hendriks gets the W !
  16. Kopech should've had the K against Maton, that was a beautiful pitch that had all of the strike zone on the corner.
  17. Ok Let's go Vaughn at least get Moncada to 3rd or better yet just drive him in.
  18. That was a quick inning . Tiger's offense just as pitiful. Well time to win it and maybe get an your 2nd extra base hit in 18 innings ?
