A lot of people here wanted Adam Duvall . So did I .He signed a 1 yr deal with the Red Sox for $7M. He started off scalding hot and put up 1.0 fWAR in just 37 PA. Then he hurt his wrist diving for a ball in CF April 10th and is now on the 60 DL . I also wanted Colas to get his shot. It was time. You just can't let a guy approaching 25 yrs old who put up great stats in his very 1st season in the US with a huge hole in RF not get a chance. It didnt work out but he's working on his game in Charlotte trying to be more selective but not having the hitting success we've seen. He is taking more walks and thats a good sign . But you have to still be able to hit while you take walks . That seems to be Yoans problem this year. His walk rate disappeared but his hitting has recovered ( his LH hitting , not his RH hitting). Putting the 2 together isn't easy, even for a veteran like Yoan. It must be very hard for Colas and I don't know what those hitting coaches were trying to do with him but it certainly hasn't helped. He just wasn't making any hard contact. Maybe his lack of baseball playing while trying to get out of Japan and finally getting to play last year hurt him too. Maybe not in the minors but against experienced MLB pitching his inexperience was apparent.

How the hell can Burger not be in the lineup ? The guy has massive Home/road splits. Him and Robert only carried the team is their last home stand to get the Sox to within 5.5 games of 1st. Him and Robert sucking on the recent road trip is at least one reason why the Sox lost. Actually Robert started to cool off the last home stand but his slugging and OPS are much better at home. But sure lets leave the guy with the .833 Slugging and 1.208 OPS on the bench at home.

I thought the pitch Burger lined out on might've been a strike. I thought it might be a little inside but I think it was kind of a hanger and those can be hit for HR's . Burger hit it well but right at the LFer. But not one of them took a called strike when he wasn't throwing pitches in the zone. If you don't put any pressure on the pitcher to throw strikes he'll continue to not throw strikes and sometimes they are just wild. We never will know if he was wild. For all we know he would've loaded the bases with 2 straight walks or forced to throw something other than that great curveball.

Scripts need a rewrite after only 6 pitches to get 3 outs. Why burn 2 relievers instead of just one and why bring in the non closer ?

My thoughts are you see that pitcher warming up in the bullpen. Now I don't know whats the percentage of swings on pitches out of the zone for him. I'm just guessing that he gets a lot of them. A well prepared team with a good video analysis department should have those kinds of reports on every pitcher and have that info readily available at the start of a series. That info should be available to every player and brought up by coaches before the inning starts . Then it's up to the player to use that info . I have no idea how good the Sox video analysis department is nor how often that info is reinforced upon entry into a game by opposing pitchers. Hitting is very hard and smart hitters , smart coaches and a good infrastructure behind the scenes all mean a lot. It's a team game in a lot more ways than just the manager.
