QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) It's actually New York from the looks of it. Glad to see they went with an actual city rather than a clone. Agreed, saw the Chrysler Building in the trailer along with the Statue of Liberty. Glad it will be a realistic city. I wonder how close/real they will be able to make it look.
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) She should never be allowed to write another article on the NBA again. I also liked the part where she writes that Jordan didn't have to contend with two multi time MVPs in his own conference. Think that may have had something to do with the fact that he was winning it all the time? Or how about how he had to face a 2 time MVP in the finals in the form of Karl Malone? Or that he faced a 3 time MVP for his 1st title? Or the first few years in the league he had to contend with the Celtics with 3 time MVP Larry Bird and Moses Malone another 3 time MVP was in the Eastern Conference as well? And as a scorer, lets ignore the fact that Jordan's career FG% is much higher than Kobe's single season best FG%. Jordan also has a higher TSP% for his career despite the fact the Wizards years brought both stats down quite a bit. In fact only 5 of Jordan's 15 seasons he had a lower FG% than Kobe's best year. His two years with the Wizards, his comeback 17 game season, his injury shortened 2nd season, and his last season with the Bulls in which his shooting percentage was still just .003 behind Kobe's best year. All this despite the fact Kobe played with Shaq so he did not see the same type of defensive attention. It is fun to ignore facts though. "Phoenix, Dallas and San Antonio are all better than the Utah, Portland and the Charles Barkley-led Phoenix team that Michael met in the NBA Finals" Based on what exactly? The fact that Phoenix and Dallas haven't won a title and Dallas lost to a team that couldn't touch any of those Bulls teams in the finals last year? Utah had two hall of famers and that Charles Barkley Phoenix team was loaded. Phoenix won 62 games that year despite Kevin Johnson only playing 49 games. And I don't get this argument anyways. Every team Jordan met in the finals was infinity times better than the teams Shaq and Kobe met in the finals. I stopped reading the article after the first few sentences. It's obvious she is going purely off her own opinion and not any actual fact.
  3. This thread just turned classic. I love it.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) GTA4 railer gets released today. Heard they were running commercials just to showcase when the trailer would be released. It was released at 5 today but basically every website that carries it has too much traffic to even get it. http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/trailer_splash.html Loaded in about 10 seconds for me.
  5. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) Not often. I'd guess that tomorrow's game is the last one for the year. They only have Sunday's game and then Thursday against Detroit (and they never have to give away tickets for a Hawks/Wings game). These freebies have been the only positive thing about the Hawks sucking yet again. But hey, we are getting another top lotto pick! They really need to retool the offense if they plan to contend at all, ever.
  6. I did this last night. Got seats for Friday's game in section 106 row 11. 2 tickets for 8 bucks. I'm going to be paying more for parking.
  7. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) Did it list who led the Cubs in MPH in simulated games? Can you measure how fast towels are whipped forward?
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Wow....I'll keep this post in mind over the course of this season when our back-up catchers are hitting .200 or lower. I was just thinking the same thing. Saying a backup catcher is a dime a dozen is ludicrous. Now I feel like Mike Tyson.
  9. Why put your backup catcher in at first for a ST game?
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:14 AM) What is with all the Podsednik hate? I don't like him or anything, but he wasn't 100% last year. Would I rather have Dave Roberts in LF and leading off? Hell yes. But then again, Podsednik can return to that 05 and 03 form, and hit .300, with a .350+ OBP, and steal 60 bags and have a 80% completion rate of doing so. And I can kinda understand the Erstad hate, but can we please wait until the season is two months through the season and see the results before we crucify the whole team? For all we know Pods reverts back to '05, and Erstad repeats 2000. Erstad is not going to "revert" to his 2000 form. That was 7 years ago and he has approached nothing close to it since then. We call that a "Career Year".
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:02 AM) Sounds like an outside linebacker to me, no? Exactly. Wouldn't be surprised if he made the switch. He played LB in college.
  12. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) Balta, if you will review my previous posts (especially my first in this discussion), you will see that I am not advocating handing anything to anyone--including Erstad. My biggest bone of contention with the Anderson issue is this: the perception that the organization is stacking the odds in favor of someone else. You will counter by saying (as you already have) that everything we have seen thus far suggests the organization is handing the starting position to Darin Erstad. You must remember that Darin Erstad has the advantage of being a veteran with a proven track record and a proven ability to contribute on and off the field--the same can not be said for Brian Anderson (this much is a fact). In my opinion, better competition should have brought in. Erstad should have to earn his roster spot just as Brian Anderson should have to earn his. In my humble opinion (which really has no effect on this discussion either way), Erstad was not the proper choice. However, he was the choice of the Chicago White Sox. Now, if Anderson hopes to be this team's starting center-fielder (as he was once projected to be), he is going to have to shoulder the burden himself, make no excuses, and earn such a distinction--so far, everything I have seen suggests the playing-field is level and not tilted to the degree some posters would have you believe. Do you believe, despite all the media chatter, that Anderson has a legitimate shot at taking the CF position? From everything we have heard it seems that Erstad is the one who is pretty much walking away with it. Do you have inside information we don't? (I am just curious as to why you think the playing field is more level than we seem to think) I sure hope so because I would really not enjoy seeing Erstad in center every day.

    "300"

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) Link. Like I said in the previous post, "Based" on historic events. I never said it was even close to historically accurate. I know the story, I studied it in school (not saying that any schools account is historically that accurate either. It was nearly 2,500 years ago.). I am just pointing out that they used the historical backdrop of the Battle of Thermopylae. That is all.

    "300"

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) it's not more or less the same story. One was based off of actual events, the other was based off of a comic book. It's a comic book movie. As was sin city. Althought not a historic piece by any stretch of the imagination, 300 wasn't based on historic events?

    "300"

QUOTE(juddling @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) Well....guess who is 'offended' by the movie...... Tehran- Iran on Monday strongly condemned the US film company Warner Bros. over the allegedly "anti-Iranian" blockbuster film 300. Javad Shamqadri, art advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, told Fars news agency that the film was an insult to Persian culture and in line with the American "psychological war" against Iran. Zack Snyder's film, based on a comic book by Frank Miller, tells the story of the battle of Thermopylae in Greek history in which 300 Spartan warriors led by King Leonidas heroically fought a massive Persian army attack, delaying an invasion by King Xerxes' forces and giving Greeks time for a counterattack. Iran's has called foul over what it calls "deviation of history" but also because the Persians in the film were shown as "ugly and violent creatures rather than human beings." The news network Khabar organised a special programme in which the film was evaluated from several angles by film critics who argued that the film's alleged efforts to expose Persians as violent was a US political plot implemented through Hollywood and the Warner Bros. company. The state-run network also linked the film to ongoing political differences between Washington and Tehran such as the nuclear dispute. The film critics further said that after Germans, Japanese, Russians and Arabs, Iranians seem to become the new "villian" in Hollywood productions. A large number of Iranians abroad have already started a worldwide email campaign to send protest missives to Warner Bros. for having insulted Persian culture and history. The film reportedly made 70 million dollars over its opening weekend, making it the first official blockbuster of the year Considering this movie appealed to the 18-35 male bracket I highly doubt it was designed to corrupt Americans into hating Persian/Iranian/Middle Eastern Culture. Whether they would like to believe it or not, there are still a few educated and cultured Americans who are not swoon by a flash Hollywood movie. I swear, the stupidity that some people display just in an effort to show they are offended is getting extreme.
  16. On the PS2 version anyone have any idea when I did fantasy draft in franchise it makes me play at Ebbets Field? I think something is a bit F'ed up.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) I have really grown to appreciate Downey Jr. I saw kiss kiss bang bang for the first time the other night and I thought RDJ was fantastic, as well as Val Kilmer. Its a really funny movie I really enjoyed the movie as well. I didn't know it was closer to 3 hours than 2 but I did enjoy it none the less. Didn't drag on for a 2 hr 40 minute movie. Between that and seeing 300 this weekend I am 2 for 2 in movie going.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:09 AM) Crazy 1st period in Phoenix tonight. 5-3 Hawks, Koci involved in 2 fights, sounds like a very interesting game. I'm not sure if it was a typo but the Herald said he got something like 42 minutes of penalties for a little over 2 minutes of ice time. Quite the wild game.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 12:17 AM) After playing the game for about 2 weeks now, I can say without hesitation that the Franchise Mode is just terrible. It's amazing that they can make a game with such outstanding gameplay but seemingly put no work into making the Franchise Mode even playable. It may be realistic in terms of gameplay but the Franchise Mode is anything but. Agreed. I did a fantasy draft, a few free agent signings and some trades. My team was ridiculous pretty much. LF Dunn CF Sizemore RF Francouer 3B David Wright SS Hanley Ramirez 2B Chase Utley 1B Konerko C Mauer DH Jose Guillen (Might trade) SP Sheets SP Buehrle SP Zito SP Hudson SP CC Sabathia CL BJ Ryan SU Fuentes SU Howry LR Bradford Bench Pierzynski Steve Finley Uribe Few others too, I think Bonderman is sitting doing middle relief. Pretty easy to build an all star team and not have to do much work.
  20. Has anyone tried The Show this year? Is it any better?
  21. I really doubt they will kill him off completely. They aren't dumb. Just as DC "killed off" Superman and brought him back.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 06:46 AM) I believe what defines the movie for many of its fanbase is exactly the points which you alluded to -- particulary, a similar plot structure to Scarface. When you exclude setting, the main character's narration, and the foreign element as being the "only difference" from Scarface, those are each significant differences which set it apart. For me, originality isn't what I immediately look for in identifying a quality film. It's just too rare for an inventive idea to come along. And when you really think about it, the only genre of film capable of such an accomplishment is science fiction or horror. Large percentage of thriller, romantic comedy, mystery, action film (insert remaining genres) typically have retread and/or simple story lines. It's what filmmakers do with the film which matters. I'll give you this for example -- Heat. What exactly sets it apart? You systematically tear apart it's storyline, you simply have a cops and robber movie. Obviously, it's not that simple. The characters, dialog, cinematography, soundtrack all set it apart from other films. Similarily, City of God sets itself apart from Scarface by using an old storyline in a unique way. I'm not really a huge fan of the film, either. Although I can understand why people like it. Scarface is practically god-like in stature to some, yet personally, I'd rather view Carlito's Way because it's not nearly as over the top. People just have their own preferences. I'm with you on Carlito's way Flash. I think it is a more enjoyable movie. However, it does get to feel a bit long at points.
  23. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 02:52 AM) *Yawn* You guys are severely overrating Dre Bly. He stinks at stopping the run and tackling overall. He's not a sucky CB by any means, but he's not anywhere near god. Chris McCallister & Samari Rolle > Champ Bailey & Dre Bly I can't think of too many CB's that are very good at stopping the run. I'm sure Denver is more interested in his coverage skills than stopping the RB.
  24. Yeah, sorry about that. Forgot about this thread
  25. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) well, at least they still haven't bothered to make the white sox jerseys accurate. i don't know where they got the idea that there are white lines going down the front. Maybe from your sig? Could be throwback jerseys as well.
