  1. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) Well you guys are giving ESPN exactly what they wanted. Honestly guys, how many seconds of that interview did they show? Do you think, just think that maybe 95% of the interview had to do with praising Ozzie, and maybe just maybe the last 5% of the interview was Kenny Williams warning Ozzie that if he doesn't calm down that he may have to make a managerial change? All I'm saying is don't jump to conclusions about this s*** until you see the whole interview, which will be aired tonight. This is exactly what ESPN wants, they're most likely making something out of nothing. The producers at ESPN probably looked over the interview, and heard those words come out of Kenny's mouth creamed their pants. Why? It's simple, they want you to question, they want you to wonder if Kenny is serious about firing Guillen. It's television, THEY'RE FORCING YOU TO TUNE IN AND WATCH THE WHOLE GAME AND INTERVIEW. They did this because they knew that most Sox fans would start questioning and discussing what the hell Kenny meant, and if Kenny was going to fire Ozzie. (Which is exactly what is going on here). As far as I am concerned, ESPN can kiss my ass, Mariotti and his buddies can kiss my ass, PTI can kiss my ass. For all of those fans that were complaining about how we don't get enough national media attention...well we got it now, and I'm sick of it. It doesn't make a difference if it's 2% or 89% of the interview. He said it, it's out there. I don't think he's serious about firing Ozzie, but it IS interesting he made the comment.
  2. It's about depth. He's pitching well, he probably won't be too expensive. I'd be glad to see him back. Btw, on the subject of former Sox righties, what happened to Antonio Osuna? He seems to be done -- anyone know why?
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) Would you and anyone else who thinks its alright for Ozzie to say and do whatever he wants, think the same way if it were any of the other 29 MLB managers that say such things? KW did not throw Ozzie under the bus. He was talked to after the *** comment, and the next thing you read is Ozzie saying he's not going to comply with the commissioner's punishment. If anything, Ozzie is throwing the White Sox organization under the bus with his outrageous comments. ^^^^^ KW stuck up for Ozzie initially, but he's not gonna support someone saying they're gonna ignore the commissioner. No team would do that. Ozzie's comments after the game ticked me off, especially the "I don't need this job" bit. I can't imagine how KW and Oz would react if a player said, "I don't need to play here." He demands dedication to the team from his players, he damn well better show it himself.
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) By extension, how long do we wait for the Pali's and Isreal to 'co-exist'? It's sort of the same thing. Americans are too wishy-washy to stomach any sticky political situation, as exhibited by damn near everything that's happening in politics in this country. No one wants to "give-in" because they're always right. It's a sad commentary of humanity. Maybe so, but we're not going to change "humanity". As for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, imo, we've basically given up on coexistence. As Bush has said, the US goal is to have two separate states, something that isn't politically palatable in Iraq.
  5. As the -- ahem -- reigning champ of Soxtalk League #2, I'd be happy to school all my b****es again this year.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Let me rephrase. Americans won't have the guts to wait for the factions in Iraq to co-exist. I know, they've been fighting for thousands of years. I get it. I'm not trying to be preachy, I know you "get it". (And I never said anything about "thousands of years" -- sometimes it just takes one generation.) Let me put it as a question -- What does the administration plan to do while waiting to make coexistence happen? If nothing more than hold elections (which is all I see), is it just a question of having the guts to wait it out? If we wait 20 years, would everyone get along by then? 50 years? I just don't think guts has anything to do with it.
  7. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) I actually agree with Daley that those caught posessing a small amount of Marijuana should recieve a fine ( a really high one to be sure ) but jail time should be reserved for those with 3+ arrests. Those caught dealing the stuff should be the ones receiving automatic jail time. What happened to the 'they're all criminals so let's make sure they get sodomized before we put them in the chair with a high voltage electric switch attached to their penis' Nuke that we all know and love?
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) It absolutely will take time, and Americans do not have the guts for it to work over the amount of time it will take to really make it. Even if we do, there's nothing to suggest that "time" alone will do anything. The factions in Iraq aren't just going to forget their differences if we wait them out. But I've heard nothing but platitudes about resolving these differences, nothing that we would actually do in any length of time.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) He advocated reconstruction. He advocated reconciliation. He didn't advocate a firm timetable for withdrawal of troops in 2004. He didn't advocate leaving, but he did advocate a different course on the ground - focused on reconstruction and reconciliation to create peace on the ground. He did say, that had he known in 2002 what he knew in 2004, he wouldn't have voted to give the President the blank check that the President received. Today, I'm no John Kerry fan. But in 2004, I can honestly say that although John Kerry didn't agree with the way we started the job, he did want it finished and finished the right way. You can not "advocate reconciliation" -- reconciliation is a goal; you can advocate actions that may lead to that goal, but not the goal itself. It's an important distinction, I think. Not that the Administration has a good plan for reconciliation. They seem to believe that a couple elections will erase every difference, which is just silly. But this (reconciliation) strikes me as the crucial goal in Iraq, and I haven't seen one convincing path to that goal from either party. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any country with similar divisions that has achieved a peaceful, stable democracy in a transition period of less than 10 years. This underscores how difficult, how massive this task may potentially be. Until I see a plan that acknowledges that, I won't believe anyone in government is dedicated to finishing the job in Iraq "the right way".
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:44 PM) That's the way it was presented in the original post of this thread. I didn't comment on the minimum wage thing in way, shape or form. That's, uh, why I wasn't replying to your post... QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) Come again -- is that directed at me? I have been critical of the French, but I can't recall me starting a thread about a cleanup in Congress or about someone being screwed for speaking Spanish -- although I did participate in threads of that nature -- and so I'm wondering if you're referring to me, and what exactly you mean. Are you bolstering YASNY's charge that I'm spinning, or am I misreading? Christ, I'm replying to minors. I'm saying that he was selective in picking the stories. you (liberal...sort of) -- French (maybe not positive, but certainly something that many Repubs would hurrah) Rex (liberal) -- cleanup (positive story) juddling (conservative) -- guy getting screwed (negative story) Stop being paranoid, y'all.
  11. You also have 'liberal' threads assaulting the French record and talking about a cleanup in Congress, and a conservative thread about someone being 'screwed' for not speaking Spanish. Kind of a downer tone there. And GP's point about the minimum wage hike is correct -- it's interesting that you consider that "bad news"...
  12. BeWare takes a thread directly to its natural conclusion: QUOTE(soxwon @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) Who saw the trophy woman at the game monday night. Dressed in Gold surrounded by the trophy. I must get a picture of her Does anyone have one? QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:04 AM) I haven't even seen her and I already know that I want to sleep with her
  13. QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:04 AM) I haven't even seen her and I already know that I want to sleep with her LOLOLOL... Very nice.
  14. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Flash: what exactly are you trying to say? We don't scout the latin countries well? I think that's fair. But if you're saying that guys like Liriano and Reyes are a dime a dozen, and we should have a few, you're kidding yourself. Not sure if you meant this, but just to be clear -- Reyes is American.
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) Liriano on ESPN and Reyes on CSN. I'm surrounded by young talent. Man, can't wait for Broadway's debut in the majors. He throws 4 innings of perfect baseball I'd be SHOCKED. I don't understand what you're driving at...
  16. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) Of course you would, you're an OSU fan. Oden isn't staying past one year, it's basically a fact. Depends how sizeable that wager is. Make him a $50 million bet, then he can convince Oden to stay another year by splitting the winnings with him. Naw, he's gone.
  17. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) I would like to read the article before I decided that. Just because Mariotti used a happy go-lucky headline doesnt mean his story is happy go-lucky. I think Mariotti ripped it as a cheap solution, he was talking up Cito Gaston bigtime. I'm not gonna pay the $3 per article the Sun Times wants to actually read these things, but here are the summaries they provide from a search: Convinced?
  18. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) I think that's really dumb if that's what's happening. Why risk Pujols long term (both the rest of the season and beyond) by rushing him back? QUOTE(UC76 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) Pujols won't matter if we score 13+ runs gain. So let's get to it. Exactly. If I'm the Cards, I don't give a flying flip how Albert SAYS he feels. If I don't have a doctor saying, "Yup, he looks 100%", he's not getting on that field. Make that 5 doctors. And who cares how badly they're losing? If they wanted to fix that they'd call up/bring in a pitcher. I just have to believe the Cards are not bringing him up a second earlier than they would if they were blowing everyone out 10-0 ever since AP went down. To rush someone so important would be even too stupid for the Royals.
  19. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) I have written Ozzie and still have his response in my inbox. It will never be deleted. Except the parts Yahoo filtered out.
  20. Paul Maholm, why can't I quit you? I mean, the Royals? The Royals are on a tear? Wtf? Why use up a month's allowance of runs in 3 days?
  21. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) I would guess that they DH Pujols tonight. Spiezio can play first can't he? They could, but Pujols (I think? -- or LaRussa?) said that he wouldn't dh, that he'd be the first baseman when he returns.
  22. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) No it has nothing yet.. they havent got a link up but it's on their site now.. so I believe he's back.. That's fair, it's just such a surprise after the initial reports, LaRussa's comments, and the predictions of this weekend or early next week, etc -- that I'm eager to see it with my own eyes. I read that he put on a show in bp, so it seems plausible. I checked the Card's transaction page (I know it's never updated that quickly, but I can dream), to find that Bigbie has "an umbilical hernia". Just the name hurts me.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) Which is why I just can't figure out why they'd bring him back yet, even if he says he's healthy. The last thing they want is to lose him for another 2 weeks from him twisting the wrong way. Yeah, I agree. I'm saying, I don't think there's even the slightest chance they're just taking his word for it. Btw, no link yet.... I tried CJE15's link, but it mentions nothing about Pujols.
