QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) Also why didn't Montero hit anyone its not like he had his good stuff going either. Haven't seen an answer to this yet, and it's a good question.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) He almost traded Carlos Lee for him when he was with the Giants before the 2003 season. Here's the problem; every team is saying to themselves the exact same things we are saying right now. He would only cost the minimum for the rest of this year and the next two. That's only if he clears waivers. It's going to be a matter of which team will take on the most money, and then which team will actually give up something of value to get him. If some how he does clear waivers, I'd take him over Tracey or Politte. I could only imagine this board's reaction if he were to sign with Detroit and pitch in Maroth's spot and take advantage of that monstorous park. This seems too long, too low-key to be sarcasm, but good Lord, it must be...

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) People will think he's from Iowa, which apparently is a much worse impression to give people. Well, of course it is. Since everyone from Iowa is a Cubs fan, as well as being from Iowa, he'd have two strikes against him before saying a word.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Its still early. It takes pitchers a while to make adjustments, plus he has a whole staff of guys to try to fix there. Maybe. But it seemed as if his repo jobs in Atlanta seemed to adjust pretty quick (I'm thinking of Thomson and Wright, mostly), and I don't see why Baltimore would be any different. The Baltimore pitchers even seemed to regress. They have had a good few weeks, so it could be he's turning them around. And don't get me wrong, I've been a pretty big Mazzone believer, to the point of heavily drafting O's pitchers in the late rounds of fantasy drafts. Among my many bad choices.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) The reason Ortiz was such a huge risk for Arizona and most everyone knew he would suck is because of his unbelievably lacking stuff and s*** control the guy put up a 1.51 WHIP his final season with Atlanta, that is horrid. After leaving Mazzone you just knew he'd implode and what do you know. Fixed. Yup, iirc most of the Ortiz talk here was just a big sigh of relief. Mazzone obviously hasn't done much for the O's, btw.

Diamondbacks Cut Ortiz; Eat $22 Million

Wow! Diamondbacks cut Russ Ortiz, eating $22 million left on the contract. It's the right thing to do, but I'm surprised any club would do it with that much money left.

The answer is, it depends what you mean by "decent". If you won't tolerate anything less than Shields, you're gonna get bent over. But Roberto Hernandez, Joe Borowski, And Friends won't cost you your #1 prospect. I'd rather go the latter route, but to each his own.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) The problem I saw is when they were going backwards with their movement, there was almost no purpose other than to keep the ball away from the other team. If they were swinging the ball, or setting up some overlaps I would understand, but almost none of that happened. Yeah, they looked shocked at how fast the Czechs got on them, and the only place to go was back. And all the passes in the air, with the extra time it takes to control them, didn't help any. I can't understand how any team at this level could look so slow and confused. Everyone's talking about what must happen for the US to get out of this bracket. I'm just trying to get an idea where US soccer is -- is that REALLY our team? Forget Italy -- if that team keeps showing up, I have no doubt we'll go 0-3-0. Wow, Brazil is really fun to watch. Though Croatia isn't playing them badly. I yelled at that one free kick -- I thought they had a great shot there. There we go...1-0 Brazil. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Oh, no. I love those two as a Duo.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) I do not like the principle of giving up that much talent for a few months rental. The Brewers won't be just giving him away, they may even hope to resign him. The only thing I've heard about it is that they looked into it, but gave up pretty quickly b/c of the price. I'm a big fan of Carlos, but it just won't work. He doesn't have a position, and more important, that bridge is charcoal.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Well then, there ya have it sports fans. Iran (23) didn't shame themselves against Mexico (4). Ivory Coast (32) was respectable against Argentina (9). And T&T (47) played to a draw against Sweden (16). -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) We are one of the most athletic teams in the country and played a slow tempo style that really was ugly. For all our athleticism, we looked MUCH slower than the Czechs today. I don't think it was just the style -- we kept getting beat to ball, trapped by aggressive charges, the defense was run through and gave everyone an hour to collect themselves for the shot. That was the most surprising thing to me. -

"I don't think the US was prepared for this." God, even that sounds too polite. This has been easily the worst performance I've seen in this WC. Roseki hit the ball well both times, but damn, why don't you just give him a tee if you're gonna wait that long to get on him? -

Good attempt there. But still, what a disappointment. The US doesn't even look like it belongs in the tourny. -

Damn. "Wheels" Hafner beats it out. (Sorry, PK, it's still yer nickname.) -
Onterrio Smith cut by his CFL team. More proof that... I don't know. It just amazes me that someone would throw all that talent away for pot.

I think the point is not that the DA indicted someone, it's that the DA went ballistic with the media interviews, and that's at least part of the reason this became such a big story. If he had shut up and indicted, maybe it wouldn't have been such a hotbutton issue. Maybe it would have been, we'll never know. But his publicity-seeking couldn't have helped. Also, he doesn't really have a corroborating witness, but that's getting too far back into the details...

Reggie Sanders has a 2-year deal, can't play center, and barely has an obp of .300. When we say we want an impact player, we all mean that they should make a good impact, right?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) Wrong. Just go to their website and the FAQ section, where the arrogant bastards literally say they aren't Christians because "they know things about Jesus that Christians don't, and thus have different beliefs". :rolly A "Christian" believes Jesus Christ (of the New Testament) was the divine messiah, which is what Mormons believe. Just because they believe 'extra' things about Christ doesn't change that one bit. It's like saying that if two religions believe different things about Christ (or God in general, since it is impossible to believe that God is fundamentally different, while Christ is exactly the same), then one can't be Christian. So all Christian churches have exactly the same beliefs? Catholics believe the Eucharist IS Christ's flesh. Many other Christians believe it's symbolic. That's a pretty significant difference. So only one can be Christian? Btw, nice misquote. Here's the full bit: "We believe in the Jesus of the New Testament, and we believe what the New Testament teaches about Him. We do believe things about Jesus that other Christians do not believe, but that is because we know, through revelation, things about Jesus that others do not know...." Awful convenient word to 'forget'. :headshake
